BACHCHHAN PAANDEY collected a poor 46.75 crore nett in its first week as collections fell fast from Monday onward. The weekend itself had struggled as it failed to grow over the weekend. This was mainly due to Mumbai circuit which fell heavily on day two.

There was better occupancy in small centres of UP, Bihar and MP but the collections from here are much less compared to bigger cinemas and even here it has been replaced by RRR in the second week.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI had a good third week as it collected 16 crore nett plus but it looked like a 20 crore nett on Friday and Saturday. But then THE KASHMIR FILES wave took over and collections did not jump on Sunday as much as they should have while the weekdays remained at lower levels than they should have.

Still the overall third week is good dropping a little more than 50% from the second week and taking its overall number to almost 118 crore nett. The film still retains a screen here and there and should comfortably finish over the 120 crore nett mark and do more business than RAAZI.

Although this is not a great comparison as RAAZI is a far smaller film but GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI came at a time when the box office had not got going and it was GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI that gave the box office and the industry a boost.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI continues to do very well at the box office despite the fantastic response to THE KASHMIR FILES and the huge release of RADHE SHYAM which led to a drop in screens for the Alia Bhatt-starrer. The collections of GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI till date are 108 crore nett plus.

The collections of GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI are now beating SOORYAVANSHI as SOORYAVANSHI collected 3.75 crore nett on day fifteen while here the figure is 4.25 crore nett. This is the first time that the film has bettered the daily numbers of SOORYAVANSHI which is highest grosser so far post the pandemic.

It is likely that GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI will record better collections than SOORYAVANSHI from here on and beat its third week numbers of 18.79 crore nett and this is despite stronger competition as SOORYAVANSHI only had a BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 up against it.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI is fantastic on its third Friday and may beat SOORYAVANSHI in its third week and set a post pandemic record for week three. The film has collected 2.50 crore nett on its third Friday and there is a limited drop from the Thursday.

SOORYAVANSHI had collected almost 19 crore nett in week three and GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has a shot at that figure with 20 crore nett third week not of the question. But a lot depends on the growth over the weekend and where it settles on Monday.

The film has held supremely well on the third Friday despite two new releases and it is probably because a big release like RADHE SHYAM has not an audience which has benefitted GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI. It would be great if  GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI can go over SOORYAVANSHI as these things mean we are slowly getting closer and closer to normalcy.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI had an excellent second week collecting almost 35 crore nett and taking it over the 100 crore nett mark to a total of 101.50 crore nett. The drop is only 47% in week two which is superb considering the holiday period in week one.

The film continued to be superb in Mumbai circuit as it hit the 40 crore nett mark and now looks like it can go to 50 crore nett in the circuit as both Maharashtra and Gujarat perform very well. The holds in the North are good too though the business is at a lower level. This is the case with most films of Sanjay Leela Bhansali barring DEVDAS and PADMAAVAT.

The third Friday will tell where the film is going and there has been a drop this morning but but it will get stronger from the evening and will give competition to the new releases over the weekend. GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI still has legs and 125 crore nett business at the end of its run is a possibility.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI is heading towards the 200 crore mark worldwide as it scores equally well overseas as in India. The film has crossed the $5.5 mark in overseas and is looking to settle at around $5.75 million after two weeks.

The film is being driven by USA/Canada which will be $2.5 million after two weeks. Gulf has also sustained well with collections now crossing $1 million despite not being released in a couple of countries and a slow start in UAE. The United Kingdom is at £500k plus and it may well become the biggest Hindi film here post the pandemic.

A $7 million number in overseas markets looks there for the film as the drop in second week is only 45% and even if there is a bigger drop in week three it will still get there. It will probably finish in the 55 crore range overseas. So a 120 crore nett finish in India will mean 200 crore worldwide.

The second week is looking to close at around 162-163 crore. SOORYAVANSHI grossed 297 crore worldwide while '83 (Hindi) did 187 crore. The top Alia Bhatt film worldwide is surprisingly GULLY BOY at 230 crore but that is because there are no films with the bigger male stars.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI showed a jump in collections on Tuesday as footfalls went up in multiplexes and it is said to be due to Women's Day. The growth came mostly from the major multiplexes and the film collected around 3.75 crore nett on its second Tuesday. 

This takes the business of the film to 95.75 crore nett and it should hit the 100 crore nett mark by the end of the week. The second week of the film is going to be in the 34 crore nett range which is an excellent number. GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI is heading for the 115 crore nett mark at least and it could even cross 120 crore nett.

The way this film has collected over the first two weeks, it makes it look like the pandemic has hardly hit business. There are cities which are not performing like they were in 2019 and for some its because of closed theatres and others have a lesser audience at present. But with this film that becomes hard to tell as even before pandemic the expectations would have been around 125 crore nett for this film and it will get close to that now.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI maintained its good run as it collected 3.25-3.50 crore nett on its second Monday to take its overall total to 92 crore nett. The second week collections are now over 25 crore nett and it will easily go over the 30 crore nett mark. 

It will joining the 40 odd films to go over 30 crore nett in week two and be the second one to go over 30 crore nett post the pandemic after SOORYAVANSHI. The film is also on course to beat the numbers of SOORYAVANSHI in Mysore making it the top grosser there post the pandemic. 

The lifetime business of the film will depend on the third week when there will be the release of bilingual RADHE SHYAM, THE KASHMIR FILMES and two dubbed South films are also expected. It is RADHE SHYAM which will be the main competition and the market expects good numbers. But box office never cares for expectations so it remains to be seen how this film affects GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI had a very good second weekend of 22 crore nett plus as it managed to be collect more than the main new release THE BATMAN over the weekend. The drop in the second weekend is just 40% from the first weekend which is an excellent trend.

This 40% drop is unlikely to last through the week as it was a holiday period on the weekdays last week but if it shows a 50% drop at the end of the week that itself would be great. GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has so far collected 89 crore nett and has a chance of being around the 100 crore nett mark at the end of two weeks.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI remains strong in Mumbai circuit with business after ten days at around 34 crore nett. The Delhi/UP collections are around 14 crore nett as UP has a so so performance and the 20 crore nett mark maybe out of reach unless NCR sustains very well over the next few weeks.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has done excellent business on its second Saturday as it grossed 7.75 crore nett taking its overall total almost 79 crore nett. The growth was excellent all over on Saturday and the film has chances of hitting double digits on Sunday. If that happens, it could close the second week with 100 crore nett up on the board.

THE BATMAN is doing good business as it collected 7.50 crore nett on Saturday takings it total to 14 crore nett including Friday and IMAX paid previews. The growth for THE BATMAN was around 30-35% as the film is doing very well in high end properties. But they were strong on day one itself and so the growth here was going to be limited. Despite collecting mainly in metros only, the numbers remain good. 

JHUND collected around 1.50 crore nett on Saturday which was growth in the 65% region and took its two day total to 2.40 crore nett but it was not good enough. The film probably had to double up due to the low first day. The best collections remain in Maharashtra but even here the film is not faring that well as the collections of Marathi film PAWANKHIND across the state are far higher despite being in third weekend. 

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI is holding up very well at the box office as it collected 4.50 crore nett on its second Friday which takes the film to 71 crore nett in eight days and it has plenty of gas left in the tank yet. The drop is 53% from day one which is excellent and gives the film a good chance of a 30 crore nett apprx second week depending on what sort of growth it will get over the weekend..

The competition from THE BATMAN is mainly in metros. So, GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has places like Gujarat and Central circuits to itself and these places will show huge jumps especially on Sunday. The 100 crore nett mark will be comfortably crossed by GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI and the lifetime will depend on what its gets in week three.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI suffered due to the pandemic as its budget went up but with good theatricals in India and Overseas the film will comfortably be in the black. The worldwide theatrical share of the film will be 70 crore on a worst case scenario and the film could finish with revenue of around 190 crore from all revenue sources.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI collected well on the last day of the week with around 5.25-5.50 crore nett for a 66.50 crore nett for week one total. There was a drop on the last day of the week which was a little more than the days before but it still remains at a good level.

The first week collections of the film are pretty much similar to 83 though that film lost around 3.50 crore in the North due to cinema closures but it also had Christmas week and was a far bigger film. The film also has the second highest first week ever for a female driven film behind TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS which did 69 crore nett. But there is a difference between that time and today as the market is coming out of a rough two years and it will take a little bit of time before all circuits start to perform as before the pandemic. No doubt some circuits are there but others are still short.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI will show jumps again over the weekend but it is the second Friday number which is crucial as huge jumps from 4 crore nett as compared to lets say 3 crore nett make a major difference to the second week total.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI was superb on Monday as it collected 8-8.25 crore nett on Monday giving it a four day total of 45.50 crore nett and there is a holiday on Tuesday to come. The collections got a boost on Monday evening due to this holiday but even allowing for that it is a great hold for the film and it will sustain well at the box office.. 

The film was relying on the Maharashtra are for a good start and that is what happened with Mumbai, Nizam  and CP Berar which all have cities from Maharashtra opening well but on Monday the film has shown good numbers in all circuits. Delhi allowing night shows has pushed the numbers in Delhi / UP also as Delhi city is the key in this circuit.

The Monday figures of the film are only second to Sooryavanshi post the pandemic but it has to be said there has not been many releases also post the pandemic. Maharashtra is set to allow 100% occupancy by the end of the week as official orders are awaited and although this will hardly make a difference to GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI it will help the new releases which open well in Maharashtra.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI collected an excellent 9.25 crore nett on Tuesday as it got the advantage of Mahashivratri in many states. The jump was around 15% from Monday which had also got advantage of the holiday period. This has taken the five day total of the film to 55 crore nett and the first week will depend where the film lands today (Wednesday). 

The target should be to remain around 50% of day one on Thursday and anything better than that would be great. The film is going to 100 crore nett plus but if the next few days really hold up then it could fly past that total comfortably.

The film is standing at almost 21 crore nett in Mumbai while Delhi/UP is just under 10 crore nett. The total of the latter is low but it is has been making ground over the last two days. The outperformance  has come in Nizam/Andhra and Central belts which has meant that despite Mumbai circuit doing very well, its ratio is under 40% and in the longer run it could go to 40% or higher as Maharashtra/Gujarat are likely to sustain best.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI did good business over its first weekend as it collected 37.50 crore nett doing good business at most places and decent North. The North should be able to make up ground from today as Delhi night shows come into play and at 100% the occupancy. The occupancy will not matter much as weekday occupancy is well short of 50% anyway.

The best business for the film has come in Nizam/Andhra and Mumbai circuit but the biggest plus for the film is the business outside metros. The collections are not huge but centres like Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Indore as well as smaller cities like Gwalior, Amravati and Latur have all performed much better than you would expect for a heroine orientated film.

The weekend business is a huge plus for the industry as slowly it goes towards normalcy but for the film itself it needs to sustain well over the weekdays where the holiday on Tuesday will help. This weekend ensures the film will be a success but a much needed HIT is the result that would bolster confidence.  

The flow of releases is limited still and GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI should benefit from it. There is THE BATMAN releasing next week but that is only one film and there are no holdovers competing for screens. This situation will change in a few weeks as many more films will compete for screen space on a weekly basis.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has emerged the top opener in United Kingdom post the pandemic as it records close to £250k beating SOORYAVANSHI and '83. The collections of the film even compare well with films released in 2019 as it collected more than many of the major releases in 2019.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a director has clout in the traditional Overseas markets be it US and UK especially among the Gujarati female population and this has worked again for the film. Bhansali and a top female star works well with this audience.

The film has done very well in Overseas with collections set to be in the $2.50 million range with only Gulf being the disappointment with lower collections. The worldwide collections of the film for the first weekend will be 62-63 crore apprx.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has scored an worldwide weekend of 65 crore which is the highest ever for a female lead film. It has beaten VEERE DI WEDDING in India and Overseas which was a smaller film but was a pre pandemic release with normal conditions. Here with GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI, the box office is just starting up again and is not optimum.

The Overseas numbers will be in the $2.75 million range as USA/Canada gets $1.1m apprx, United Kingdom is £250k apprx, Australia is A$375 and Gulf collects around $450k. The film saw a ban in Bahrain and Qatar which affected the Gulf business of the film. The film is looking to score very well in US/Canada and is set for a very strong run in that market.

For a comparison, SOORYAVANSHI was 117 crore and '83 was 78 crore but these were far bigger films and holiday releases; so, GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI getting 65 crore worldwide is very good. The next best in 2021 was ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH which was just 29 crore and GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI is way ahead of that.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI scored a solid Saturday as it made around 12.50 crore nett on day two giving it a 22 crore nett plus total over two days. It will have a comfortable 35 crore nett plus weekend for the film. The film has generally done well all over with the under performance coming in North which is normally the case for Sanjay Leela Bhansali films. 

Mumbai circuit is doing well as expected but the surprise is CP Berar, CI and Nizam/Andhra as the film has out performed in all these circuits. These three circuits recorded better opening numbers than '83 which had a Christmas Eve release and were the only three circuits to go above that film and they have held well. No doubt Nizam/Andhra is the best circuit for the film as these numbers are coming with the competition of Telugu film BHEEMLA NAYAK which is doing very well in Andhra.

Mysore was a bit low on Friday also with just 50 lakhs but has shown a huge jump on day two; so generally its a good picture in Mumbai, CP Berar, CI and South while the rest are decent. Monday will be crucial but as there is a holiday for Mahashivratri on Tuesday, it should hold up well till then. Monday will get an evening boost and on top of that, late evening and night shows will back in Delhi city from Monday.

If the film maintains as it should till Tuesday and then can be somewhere around 50% of its Friday total on Wednesday, then there is a good chance the industry will have its second box office HIT post the pandemic.

The Overseas numbers are also impressive for the film and may well finish around $2.5 million and this is despite Gulf not firing. US/Canada will cross $1 million while UK should be around £200k. In United Kingdom, there is a chance that it could be the highest opening post the pandemic for a Hindi film.

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI has scored a strong first day with collections flirting with the 10 crore nett mark and likely to finish in the 9.75-10 crore nett range as the film does well pretty well in mass markets as well as the bigger centres. Mumbai was expected to be good and that has happened but markets like Nizam/Andhra, (despite a big Telegu film), CP Berar, CI and the Eastern markets have all scored well. The mass markets for GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI have scored better than '83. 

This near 10 crore nett number has come despite there still being 50% capacity restriction rule in places like Mumbai and Delhi and some other places. This would have curtailed the business in the evening as it would have had to potential to have higher than 50% occupancy at many places.

There is slightly weaker performance in North but that is the case with most films made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It is only NCR in North which has given good to decent collections while other places have to improve. The opening day number is a huge plus for Alia Bhatt as it confirms her as the top female star in India. The plus is that its come after an average trailer and music which never took off so the star takes more credit. It is the second highest opening day ever for a female led film with VEERE DI WEDDING being best but that was in better times.

The huge plus for the film also is that Mumbai circuit ratio will come under 40% as other circuits have done well. Mumbai circuit should finish at around 3.75 crore nett which will be 38% all India. The film was also released in Telugu but that had limited collections of around 5-10 lakhs nett. The film has put a new lease of life into the industry and it should get better from here especially as summer arrives.
