Salman Khan and I relived the good old times together-Govinda

With their fallout behind them, Chi Chi shoots Bigg Boss special episode with Sallu
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; October 6, 2018)
Their fallout may have been fodder for gossip mills over the past few years, but Govinda and Salman Khan showed that their friendship was for keeps as they shot together for Bigg Boss yesterday. Govinda made a special appearance on the reality show as part of promotions for his next, FryDay.
A crew member reveals, "There was no animosity between them. Before the shoot, Salman and Govinda spent a lot of time catching up with each other. The latter was also accompanied by his daughter Tina. Once the camera started rolling, the two were back to taking good-natured jibes at each other."
Given their easy camaraderie, it is not surprising when Govinda says that their spontaneity shone through during the shoot. "It was great shooting with Salman after such a long time. He is like a brother to me. I came completely unprepared for the shoot, but it went off better than we expected. We relived the good old times together," says the actor.
Khan had roped in Govinda for Partner (2007), thus giving the latter's career a major boost. However, it was then suggested that Khan had gone back on his word of launching Tina, leading to a rift between old friends. Govinda had later clarified that he is open to working with the superstar if the right script comes their way.
Stereotype of the star has now been broken-Varun Sharma

Following
the super success of his last release, Fukrey Returns, actor Varun
‘Choocha’ Sharma has gone from running behind people for roles to being
approached with scripts
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 3, 2018)
Jalandhar boy Varun Sharma won’t admit that he’s finally made it with the success of Fukrey Returns, in which he reprised his role as the lovable Choocha from the 2013 original. Instead, he gushes evasively, “In an industry where movie posters are dominated by chiselled bodies, there’s Fukrey Returns, with a chubby boy beaming on its posters. Content really is everything and I’m still coming to terms with the crazy numbers the sequel has achieved.”
The 27-yar-old actor goes on to recall walking into the 1400-seater Gaiety Galaxy on a Sunday which was packed to capacity for a latenight show. “The kind of reaction the film got is usually reserved for the Khans!” Varun exults, adding, “There was whistling, hooting, clapping for the fukras and Bholi Punjaban (played by Richa Chadha). I cried in the car on my way home. It was unreal. The stereotype of a star has been broken because people are in love with characters now,” the actor reflects.
For Varun, the road to screen glory has been paved with exasperatingly miniscule breakthroughs — he made tea and served as a production runner on Om Puri’s Brit comedy West Is West and Pankaj Kapur’s Shahid and Sonam Kapoor-starrer directorial debut, Mausam, was once thrown out of a film just a day before it rolled, and in another case, was asked to leave an audition for an ad because “he didn’t look the part”. “I used to collect food menus from restaurants and ask the cast and crew what they wanted. I also did odd jobs like printing the scripts and giving it to the actors. On the side, I began auditioning for nonspeaking roles,” he reminisces, adding candidly that everything felt exciting for a “nobody from Jalandhar”.
Varun was in college when the acting bug bit him but his initiation into the profession was far from conventional. “I realized during my student days in Chandigarh that the best way to get close to acting was to join a casting agency. I interned with (casting director) Nandini Shrikent and got to see how actors read for films like Talaash, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Soon, I started auditioning too. I was filled with aspirations and even small gigs exceeded my expectations,” he smiles.
As a result of his early experiences, Varun believes that he is a product of Bollywood’s casting system and fervently vouches for budding actors who are eager to go through the gruelling motions of auditions day after day. “Many aspiring actors, including many of my friends, take auditions lightly but I am a classic example of auditions putting a rank newcomer on a movie poster. Now, my life has moved from auditions to narrations. It’s the most beautiful phase. I was running behind people for a role and now they come to me with scripts,” Varun shares.
After working with Abhishek Dogra in the Sonam Kapoor-starrer comedy Dolly Ki Doli in 2015, Varun recently wrapped up the filmmaker’s next, Fry Day, an Anees Bazmee production in which he features alongside Govinda. He also reveals that he is all set to announce another big project soon but for now he is happier about an upcoming holiday with his extended family to the Maldives that he’s putting together for his mother’s birthday next month.
Before that happens, he’s binge watching Black Mirror and Peeky Blinders as he takes his time considering each project that comes to him in the wake of this recent success. “For now, it’s narrations and lots of script readings, with a resolution that I’ll successfully learn how to play the drums this year,” he signs off.

Why did we wait a decade for a Partner sequel?-Govinda

Govinda won’t confirm if he’s reuniting with Salman Khan even though Sohail Khan has registered two titles
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 21, 2017)
Birthday boy Govinda who turns 54 today admits that he has made three resolutions for the New Year — speak only to convey a message, work harder on his movies and include fitness into daily routine. He’s dropped several kilos thanks to a stringent diet and yoga. But no, he has no plans of throwing a grand birthday bash but will do pooja, go to the temple and welcome the few guests who always come over to his home.
On the eve of his birthday, the actor was shooting till 4 am and having wrapped up Abhishek Dogra’s comedy-drama, Fry-day, is now gearing up to kick off his next film. He’s quick to add that it’s not Partner 2 as is being speculated. “When I quit politics 10 years ago, I found Partner and neither the makers nor my fans have forgotten the film. I guess it’s because of the humour and the honesty which shines through. There is a lot of speculation but I haven’t been finalised for the sequel, I have to make that clear kyunki main jhoot nahi bolta,” he laughed, refusing to confirm his highly-anticipated reunion with Salman Khan.
The 2007 David Dhawan directorial was a Hindi remake of Will Smith’s Hitch and also featured Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta. One of the highest grossing films of the time, it marked a successfully comeback for Govinda and reestablished Salman’s stardom. Buzz is, Sohail Khan has now registered two titles — Carry on Partner and Partner 2 — and is keen to reunite the duo. “I never understood why we had to wait a decade for a Partner sequel, I guess I love the franchise a little too much,” Govinda chuckled, promising that he will get back to the game with the dedication he had when he started his journey in the ’80s. “I did not have the support of big banners then. I tried my hand at politics without much success. Even as a producer things didn’t work out and I got left behind in the race. I guess it was destiny.”
He asserts that he has no plans to produce a film anymore but will work harder as an actor. “In hard times my mother’s blessings kept me going. Now, I want to work with good people and show my kamaal in whatever little way I can,” he signs off.
Fry Day: Govinda and Varun Sharma is the new comic duo in town

BOMBAY TIMES (December 21, 2017)
Govinda has always enthralled cinegoers with his acting chops, especially his impeccable comic timing. For his next, Fry Day, helmed by Abhishek Dogra (of Dolly Ki Doli fame), the actor is joined by Varun Sharma (Fukrey series). With a major portion of the film already shot, those who have seen the two actors at work can’t stop talking about the camaraderie they share, in front of, as well as off the camera. Their collaboration is also a fresh combination for movie buffs. While Govinda has already proved his mettle when it comes to comedy, Varun, too, has fast established himself in this genre. Incidentally, he is also referred to as Chi Chi (Govinda’s pet name) by his close buddies.
In Fry Day, Varun plays a failed salesman while Govinda essays the role of a theatre actor. Produced by Sajid Qureshi, the film follows the duo in the course of a day. Talking about the movie, Govinda says, “Varun is a sincere actor and his comic timing with me will be something outstanding for the audience. In my entire career till date, this is my second film after Kill Dil that I’ve finished in one schedule. It’s a great feeling working with the new generation of directors like Abhishek. He is extremely hardworking and understanding. The movie is young and fresh and I am sure people of all age groups will love and enjoy it.”
Varun, who has become popular as Choocha, the character in his last release, can’t contain his excitement of teaming up with the senior actor. He enthuses, “I’ve grown up watching Govinda ji’s films and there is so much that one can learn from him. He is the best in the industry when it comes to comedy. So, it was quite an enriching experience working with him. This is my second film with Abhishek after Dolly Ki Doli. He has a great sensibility as a filmmaker.”
The director sums up, saying, “I had a great time working with Govinda sir and Varun. It was like a house on fire. Expect firecrackers on screen with these two actors, who have an amazing timing in comedy. Their energy is so infectious that we had to cut between takes since the crew would burst out laughing during the shoot!”
Fry Day, presented by Inbox Pictures Pvt Ltd, is slated to release in the summer of 2018.
I was wary of going overboard-Varun Sharma

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 8, 2017)
Varun Sharma, who returns with the second instalment of his first film, the 2013 Mrigdeep Singh Lamba-directed comedy Fukrey, today is understandably excited. “Choocha was the first character I ever played so I was kicked to hear that a sequel was in the works. Not many actors get to reprise their debut role. The characteristics and tonality were decided in the original but while prepping for the sequel, I was constantly wary of going overboard. In the last four years, I’ve worked on different characters so there was also a lot of unlearning to play Choocha again,” he admitted.
The reunion with the original cast was a nostalgia trip. “We returned to Delhi University’s Miranda House college on the first day, where the original was shot as well. On the sets, we slipped back into our respective characters seamlessly,” Varun recounts.
The 31-year-old actor recently moved into a new house in Andheri, a three-BHK terrace flat that he shares with his mother, and reveals that he feels more at home in it than in his previous pad. “My mother is a painter and she likes the new setup. She has decorated the house according to her tastes and it’s comforting as I have lived in a bachelor pad for so long,” Varun explains.
On the work front, he has begun shooting Abhishek Dogra’s comedy, Fry Day, with Govinda. “I’m finished with the first schedule, we start the next by the month-end. It’s going to be a busy New Year for me. But there’s something to look forward to. On January 14, I leave for the US with friends from kindergarten to college. We plan to visit Universal Studios, ” he signs off.

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 31, 2017)
Mirror (September 30) was the first to report that after directing Sonam Kapoor in the 2015 comedy-drama Dolly Ki Doli, Abhishek Dogra will now roll with a film tentatively titled Fry Day, featuring Govinda and Fukrey’s popular character Choocha, Varun Sharma. The duo kicked off a start-to-finish, 35-day schedule in Delhi last week. They are presently filming at Chattarpur Farms.
“Varun plays a failed salesman while Govindaji is a theatre actor. The film follows the duo in the course of a day. Both the actors are Punjabis and get along like a house on fire. One is a legend and the biggest entertainer ever while the other epitomises youth and their camaraderie is fresh,” exults Abhishek, promising glimpse of the Hero No. 1 from the ’90s.
However, the 53-year-old actor is now very health conscious, focussed on his body and diet. “But Varun and I plan what to order and from where every day, well in advance, and occasionally treat ourselves to a dinner or party,” admits the filmmaker guiltily.
A self-confessed Govinda fan, Dogra admits the talk usually revolves around the actor’s previous blockbusters. In particular David Dhawan’s Haseena Maan Jaayegi and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which are his favourites. That the actors are having a blast is evident from the fact that even during breaks they don’t head back to their vanity vans but hang out with the cast and crew.
Written by veteran writer Rajeev Kaul who penned hits like Shola Aur Shabnam, Ishq, Dil and Ready, and Manu Rishi who wrote the dialogue for Dibakar Banerjee’s Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Fry Day is a situational comedy.
