FORCE 2 was the only film doing some business this week as the holdover releases all were low. The Hollywood new release FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM grossed around 2 crore nett which was less than what DOCTOR STRANGE opened to a few weeks back. DOCTOR STRANGE has emerged a success over the demonetizing period and is likely to finish with business around 25 crore nett which is pretty good for a film over this period and releases on 675 theatres. Both the Diwali releases AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL and SHIVAAY which are in their respective fourth weeks were collecting better than ROCK ON 2 in its second week.

The disastrous fate of ROCK ON 2 has nothing to do with the currency demonetizing issues but to do with the film itself. The collections are lower than they would be if everything was normal but the key for these films which only have chances in metros is the second day growth. It can be said that demonetizing also affects but then it should have also affected DOCTOR STRANGE which grew a huge 113% on Saturday. This film is aimed at the same markets as ROCK ON 2 and despite the cash crunch it showed huge growth on Saturday which was a possibility for ROCK ON 2 also if the film had merits. Despite dull start and other issues it still had a chance to rescue itself by doing what DOCTOR STRANGE did but as the film was rejected it could not. DOCTOR STRANGE did pretty well in India with collections in the 2.50-2.75 crore nett range. Although the number was not high the film was released on just 675 cinemas with 800 screens taken from these cinemas. So in terms of that its a decent start and Mumbai and South India showed good numbers. The film was released in English mainly with some places showing a dubbed Hindi version. The Saturday growth is all important for the film especially as its mainly released in English and this audience comes out at high end multiplexes on Saturday
