DOCTOR G collected a low 19 crore nett in week one as collections were low on the weekdays. The film had reasonably collections over the weekend considering results post pandemic for this genre but the weekdays could not really hold.

There was a further drop on Thursday due to the release of BLACK ADAM. Though there are no releases today (Friday), it could do better as in that Thursday to Friday comparison. CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI collected 22 crore nett and DOCTOR G should be able to beat the business of that film.

The first week collections of DOCTOR G are as follows.

DOCTOR G collected 1.50 crore nett on Tuesday which means no drop from Monday but this does not make much difference to the outcome as that 60% drop on Monday was the killer. The collections on Tuesday were steady for all films released so it was more of a general picture.

DOCTOR G has till date collected 16.75 crore nett in five days and should do a first week on the 19.25 crore nett range. But even from here, 25 crore nett will be difficult as it is best in the NCR area and this gets hit by pre Diwali a lot.

The film will beat the collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI though but that is not even a consolation prize as that film's box office performance was bad.

DOCTOR G had a 60% drop in collections on Monday as it collected 1.50 crore nett. The four day figures of the film are around 15.25 crore nett but the Monday number is just not good enough especially for a film which is more about the weekday business than the weekend as its never going to put huge weekend numbers.

This has been the story post pandemic with films in this genre. There are two main issues - one, they don't get the Saturday growth as before and two, the Monday drops are more than before. Films like these would not have dropped much more than 50% before even if not liked.

It does look like the end of this urban type of concept comedy film unless the trends change. DOCTOR G is a pre pandemic film but the problem is urban content is still being greenlit post the pandemic. DOCTOR G will be saved by its 40 crore plus digital revenue though theatrically it has failed.

DOCTOR G saw good growth on Saturday as collections went up 35-40% and it collected 4.75-5 crore nett. The film had done well on Friday evening which led to lesser growth on Saturday evening. This growth on Saturday has become the issue for films in this zone. DOCTOR G has collected 8.50 crore nett over the first two days.

Before the pandemic, a film which opened at 3-4 crore nett could easily see growth in the 60-80% range on Saturday but this has just not happened in the last year or so. It could be content wise that film has not come yet but for these films which are not going to open, to survive, that Saturday growth has to start coming.

DOCTOR G will now need to see solid growth on Sunday to keep it in with a chance of a good hold on Monday but that will not be easy as in the higher growth areas it is likely that DOCTOR (Hindi) will be the first choice. The better performing areas for DOCTOR G like Delhi NCR and Mumbai city tend to see limited growth on Sunday.

DOCTOR G collected a near 14 crore nett total for its first weekend which compares well with other recent Ayushmann Khurana starrers like CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI (11.39 crore nett) and ANEK (5.40 crore nett) but the figures are on the lower side.

The opening day was respectable but the movement over the weekend should have been more. The key was the Saturday where you really have to get 60% plus up as for a film where a huge ratio of business is coming from Delhi NCR, Mumbai city and Bangalore, the growth on Sunday will also be limited.

The film was kept at normal rates over the weekend and the makers will also keep the weekday rates normal unlike other films which had concessional rates over the weekend and will do the same over the weekdays. If this film had gone for concessional rates, then the collections would have been less for sure.

DOCTOR G has done reasonably well on day one with collections going to 3.50 crore nett on day one. This is far better than the other releases of Ayushmann Khurana post the pandemic. ANEK was a nothing film so that is a pointless comparison but the film has done around 15-20% better than CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI which was in a similar zone to DOCTOR G.

Obviously 3.50 crore is not a good number but in the context of what is happening at the box office and especially for these type of films where it is a struggle to bring the audience in on this first day number cannot be called bad.  Also there was a push in the evening as in the morning, a 3 crore nett number looked maximum.

Also this number shows that maybe things are slowly improving at the box office. It is not much but a film in the Ayushmann Khurana zone which is only for the A centres has pushed to 3.50 crore nett now and maybe slowly they can go to over 4 crore nett when they have some doses of humour as things improve. The eight week window is here now and its not going to have a huge impact straight away but slowly it should start bringing back some of the audience that these type of films have lost to the streaming habit.

The makers avoided concessional rates and its come out a correct choice as its unlikely this film would have got these sort of numbers on lower rates which can easily be seen by the numbers of films which have gone on lower rates this weekend.

The bigger task post pandemic is that Saturday growth which is how these films used to work before the pandemic. The collections will go up on Saturday but it remains to be seen to what level they go to.
