A few days after Diandra Soares shared her experience of being sexually harassed by Suhel Seth many years ago, the model-turned-actress tells BT that she is NOT shocked by his silence
Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; October 26, 2018)
Soon after Diandra Soares came forward with her #MeToo experience about a week ago, the model-turnedactress had told BT that she was waiting for Suhel Seth to address her allegations, and only then would she talk more about it.Now, Diandra says that she is not shocked by his silence over her accusation. In a chat with BT, she says, “I know why he is silent. He thinks that this will blow over, but I will not let this go till the day I die. Having said that, I am shocked that he hasn’t responded to the women, who accused him before me (author Ira Trivedi and filmmaker Natasha Rathore). It has been 15 days since all this happened and he is still silent. I want to ask, why some people are still working with him?”
Diandra is also vocal about how some women feel that she is doing this for publicity. She says, “There are so many intellectual women who feel that I am doing this for publicity. If I wanted publicity, I would have taken a superstar’s name, why would I name Suhel Seth? I have spoken to so many people in the last five days that I have lost appetite. I have not slept well. Do these people feel that we enjoy seeking publicity like this? The women who have spoken up in the #MeToo movement have families to support and they are only doing this so that such harassment stops.”
Talking about the incident that happened many years ago at a fashion week after-party, she shares, “There were so many people present at that party, but not one of them has come forward to support me. People feel this is a gender war, but it’s not. I have many male friends who are caring and protective.” She adds, “I want to question all the usual Bollywood placard holders who regularly tweet about issues. Where are they? I want to tell people that they should talk now. We also need more men to support the movement. The way I bit Suhels’ tongue and squeezed his b***s when he forcibly kissed me... in our country, do we have to teach our children to fight sexual predators and take care of themselves? What we need are stringent laws for such situations.”

Model Diandra Soares recounts her story involving Suhel Seth, explains why she decided to speak up about the ordeal
With inputs from Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 18, 2018)
A week after filmmaker Natashja Rathore and author Ira Trivedi accused Suhel Seth of sexual misconduct, model and former Bigg Boss inmate Diandra Soares has come forward with her own #MeToo experience with him.
Soares revealed in a Facebook post that she was at a fashion week after party a few years ago in Delhi, when the incident took place. “I was dancing on a couch and out of nowhere Suhel Seth shoved his f**king tongue down my mouth. I immediately bit his tongue with all my might and anger. Oh, I also grabbed his b*lls and squeezed them hard, refusing to let go,” she added.
She went on to reveal that Seth responded with bewilderment, “like a ’lil child, with feelings all hurt and said, ‘You bit me really hard! (in baby voice, no less)’… still looking absolutely innocent and hurt at MY behaviour.” In the post, Soares explained that she decided to speak out in solidarity with other #MeToo survivors.
“Nobody has called out this behaviour at various events and parties… because of the SILENCE, these predators have had more power and courage to continue this appalling, vile, animalistic behaviour.”
When Mirror reached out to her, Soares said, “I have already spoken my truth but I haven’t thought of further course of action yet as I was bombarded (with calls) all day. I will figure out due process in time.”
Suhel Seth remained unavailable for comment.
I regret going into the bathroom with Diandra Soares-Gautam Gulati

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; February 2, 2015)
It was difficult to place
him as a celebrity when he had entered the show, given his humble
beginnings as a character actor on television. However, Gautam Gulati
survived as many as 11 nominations to emerge the winner of the eighth
season of Bigg Boss.
The actor says he had no particular agenda when he entered the house. “I went there for a new experience and personal growth. I wanted to entertain people and make new friends. I was proved wrong as they began targeting me. They began playing games during the first task, which I was not prepared for and I swore. They used that to their advantage and alienated me. That was the weakest phase, but it helped me connect with Bigg Boss then. I started speaking my mind, instead of succumbing to herd mentality on the show,“ he says.
So, what does he think worked in his favour? “My positivity, humanity and family values. The four-month long show was a compressed version of your whole life. The viewers get to see your real personality, no matter what you do to try and hide it,“ he says.
The one thing that will take a while to get erased from our memories is the kiss episode -not just with Diandra Soares, but also with Ali Quli Mirza. Gautam maintains that Diandra was and is just a friend and there can be nothing more than that between them. “Yes, I kissed her. Is that a crime?“ he asks, “It's natural to feel attracted to somebody and it's not wrong. She kissed me first, which I thought was quite daring. After that she teased me and called me a phattu. I kissed her to prove her wrong. One day, she dragged me inside the bathroom. We spent five minutes inside. The world is free to believe whatever they wish to, but the reality is that we just kissed. In retrospect, I regret going into the bathroom with Diandra. The impression was that she is my girlfriend, which was not the case. There was nothing between us and will never be so. I have always drawn a line in every relationship and I would never overstep that. We are just friends and there can be nothing beyond that. In fact, my mother is planning to get me married in a year's time.“
What about the smooch episode with Ali? “That was extremely annoying. At one point, I felt like slapping him hard, but had to control my temper. When he couldn't break me with his nasty comments, he started resorting to cheap tactics,“ he replies. Besides his flamboyance, it was his shirtless avatar that was a big hit with the female audience. It kept the temperature outside the house and his female fanbase increasing. “I have lost five kilos and have come out with a better body. I love to roam shirtless inside my house, which is exactly how I was on the show. Nigaar Khan didn't like it. I even asked her what world and century is she living in?“ he laughs.
There have been several occasions when Gautam seemed to have overreacted, one such instance being the suitcase task where they had to stand inside a cage pressing a button. He had stormed out of the cage when Ali spoke about homosexuality to provoke him as a part of his plan. “It wasn't the homosexuality comment that angered me. What ticked me off was that nobody came to my support or defence when Ali was making those nasty and below-the-belt comments,“ he says.
Many even felt that the actor was playing the sympathy card with all the crying in the house. “Never,“ denies Gautam, adding, “I felt so alone that I did break down on many occasions. How can a man cry so much just to fake it? Those were my real emotions. I am a strong guy and would never seek anybody's sympathy . There were times when the torture was so unbearable that I would blast.“
Ask him about his plan of action now and he replies, “No TV at the moment. I am getting some Bollywood offers. The show was like a movie that lasted four months and hence, it feels like a debut in Bollywood, already,“ he signs off.

I wouldn’t want to marry an actress, but if it’s Alia Bhatt, I will-Gautam Gulati

Bigg Boss 8 winner Gautam Gulati says he will only marry an actress if it’s someone like Miss Bhatt
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; February 2, 2015)
Gautam Gulati (Diya Aur Baati Hum’s Vikram Rathi) was
the underdog when he entered Bigg Boss 8 as the underdog. He seemed
indifferent and preoccupied in the initial days of the show till he had a
flare-up with Karishma Tanna. Suddenly, Gauti as he is fondly called
came into the limelight and after apologising to Karishma has been a
modicum of decency. His going shirtless, flashing his six-pack abs and
his style of dressing has had his female fans swooning over him. Even
Sonali Raut and Diandra Soares were drawn to him. In a survey conducted
by Ormax Media his popularity share was more than all the other
contestants put together. Here the Bigg Boss winner talks about his
eventful journey, attraction to Diandra Soares, equation with Karishma
and the kind of girl he will marry...
What is the first thing you want to do now that the show is over?
I just want to go back to Delhi with my mom, spend time with my family. It’s been a stressful four months and I need to unwind. But there are a few formalities I have to complete in Mumbai first.
Have you thought about what you want to do next?
Yes, I have three good offers. I will be reading the scripts and decide which one I want to do.
Are the offers from TV or films?
They are all film offers. Just before I went into the house, I had gone to Cannes as my film Coward (Darpok) was being screened there. I got a chance to walk the red carpet and that changed my thinking. I want to do projects that are on a certain level now.
So, no more TV?
I will do TV only if there’s something interesting, big and as organised as Bigg Boss. This show has changed my life in a big way. I may do reality shows – the channel has talked to me about Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, which I could take up. If it’s a big reality show I will definitely think about it, but no serials for now.
Is the Gautam who went inside the house four months ago different now?
Yes. I have learned a lot inside the house. I would say, I have learnt about life in these four months! To be honest, it’s not been easy at all. The biggest reason for anybody’s downfall is his anger. I learned how to control mine, never to raise a hand — which I never did anyway, and not to use abusive language. Yes, there were fights but I didn’t give gaalis. I have also become dark and lost four-five kilos.
You came into the limelight because you used an abusive word against Karishma...
Yes, but I agreed I shouldn’t have said it and I felt bad about it. But my intention was not bad. It was something that came out of pain. In the task, she applied chilli powder on my face and eyes — even when I remember I get jitters — and what I said came out involuntarily. But uske baad ek jung shuru ho gayi. Everybody was against me and I realised if somebody wants you out, he/she will do anything. I was alone. My energy had drained and I was feeling low. Slowly, things started changing Salman sir and people supported me and I began opening up. But I must say, if Karishma hadn’t started the jung, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to prove myself in the show.
What is your equation with Karishma now?
It’s all good. Her mother hugged me, told me to forget everything and invited me to their house for lunch.
Will you be taking your friendship with Diandra Soares forward?
Diandra is a very nice girl. People from outside have been telling me that she was supporting me. Yes, things happened between us – Emraan Hashmi zone happened before we had a chance to talk about our relationship! There was attraction, but at the same jo cheez possible nahi hai woh nahi hai. We are friends and I won’t do anything that will hurt anybody. Many a times friendships survive, relationships don’t.
Are you saying this because your family is against the relationship?
No. Diandra is aware that I am younger than her and its (relationship) not possible. I draw a line, so there is a friendship.
Does that mean you will marry a girl of your mother’s choice?
It’s a different thing if I fall in love, otherwise, it’ll be whoever mom chooses.
Are you open to marrying an actress?
Ideally, I wouldn’t want to marry an actress, but if it’s Alia Bhatt, I will. She is cute, my kind of girl. She and I go to the same gym but we haven’t. I am a shy type of person so haven’t spoken to her.
What are you planning to do with the Rs 50 lakh you have won?
I will add some more money to it and buy a house in Mumbai at a good location. It’s time I buy one now. In fact, right from childhood, I had this wish that I should and will buy everything I need with my own money.

Diandra Soares debunks pregnancy rumours, dishes dirt on housemates and discusses Bollywood plans
Subhash K Jha (DNA; December 16, 2014)
She may have been evicted from the Bigg Boss 8 house,
but Diandra Soares has no regrets. With a couple of movies in the
pipeline and an optimistic outlook, she holds forth on her time in the
house and mulls on the way ahead.
ON MOVIES
She says, “I already have two films both produced by Pooja Bhatt, one of them directed by Soni Razdan. They were supposed to start in September-October. Luckily they got pushed to to February 2015. These are my baby steps into movies. I’ve never planned my life. Whenever I plan, I mess it up. So I go with the flow. Let me see, what’s in store.”
ON RUMOURED PREGNANCY
Soares was always in the news during her time in the house, right from the start to the very end, when pregnancy rumours started gaining ground. She rubbishes the gossip, saying, “I never said I am pregnant because I am not. One would hardly make a joke of something so important. But yes,I did have to go out for a check-up because of a hormonal imbalance. This was the second time that I was going out for medical reasons, the first time it was to a dentist. So I decided to play a prank on housemates by saying I am not coming back to the house for health reasons. I absolutely never ever once said that I was pregnant.”
ON GAUTAM GULATI
Diandra pauses, then says, “Our feelings were very confused. It would be very difficult to define our feelings. I don’t think we can be sure of our mutual feelings. It’s all so messed up.” She says she met Gulati for the first time on the show. And yet they seemed to hit it off so well.... She adds, “As far as Gautam is concerned, I really don’t think I can interact with someone who is so spineless...Would I want to meet him? I don’t know. Time heals all wounds, I guess.”
ON PUNEET ISSAR
Says Diandra, “I can’t wait to meet Puneet’s wife and to hang out with them in his house. I think he is a really nice person. But he’s too caught up in the game and behaving childishly. The respect that he commanded before Bigg Boss, has deserted him.”
