HINDUSTAN TIMES (February 16, 2025)
The electrifying chemistry between Bipasha Basu and John Abraham in Billo Rani from Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007) still sets hearts racing. But behind the scenes, sparks of a different kind were flying.
Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri recently spilled the beans, revealing that the song was filmed in the midst of intense personal turmoil — the duo had broken up just days before the shoot. Taking to X, Vivek shared that their on-screen passion was a masterful illusion, crafted despite real-life heartbreak.
Reposting a clip of the song, he wrote, “This song has a history. Producers didn’t want it. Javed Saab was against the hook ‘Billo Rani,’ Pritam wasn’t sure about the qawwali style. John and Bipasha had broken up just days before, so there were a lot of issues.”
However, it was the late choreographer Saroj Khan’s unwavering belief that turned things around. “Only Saroj ji believed in me. She said this will become the biggest hit — and it did. Big salute to Pritam, Javed Saab and Saroj ji,” he added.
The song, from the film, also features Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. Sung by Anand Raaj Anand and Richa Sharma, Billo Rani became an instant chartbuster. Bipasha and John’s love story, which began on the sets of Jism (2003), spanned nearly a decade. And while their real-life romance may have ended, Billo Rani remains a timeless onscreen memory of their sizzling magic.
I love the way Maria Goretti makes chocolates, it’s not all sugar-Arshad Warsi

BOMBAY TIMES (July 8, 2023)
“I don’t remember the first time I ate a chocolate, but till today if you offer me anything with chocolate in it, I will have it,” says former VJ, actress and gourmet chef Maria Goretti, as she’s adding the final touches on chocolate lava cake and cookies spread on the kitchen table. On World Chocolate Day today, the chef and author gives a sneak peek into her kitchen and the chocolate goodies she’s baked for her hubby, actor Arshad Warsi and their children.
Arshad, who is all set to cut the cake and dig into it too, jumps in and explains how he used to cook for Maria when he started dating her. “When I was dating Maria, I was the one who cooked. I made different dishes to surprise and impress her because she never cooked. I would cook for her, and she just loved my raan biryani! I am not a big fan of chocolates, but I love the way Maria makes chocolates, it’s not all sugar, you get the real taste”.
The Asur actor added, "Earlier, I used to joke with Maria how the entire world’s kids say kabhi mere maa ke haath ka khana khaya hai and in our home, it would be kabhi mere baap ke haath ka khana khaya hai as I used to cook more than her, but now it will be both (laughs)."
Maria has hosted several cooking shows and authored a cookbook. Her book titled 'From My Kitchen to Yours' won the Gourmand award in 2017. And those recipes are now posted as videos on her insta id @TheMariaGoretticorner. She adds, “Chocolate is one of my favourite ingredients, it is more than just a dessert! I remember making chocolate pasta for my kids (Zeke and Zene) when they were very young. I used to make pasta with cocoa and boil it for my kids. Now my son Zeke loves baking and cooks on his own.”
Sharing how she moved to baking and cooking from veejaying, Maria said, "I remember I had nothing to do while Arshad was busy shooting for Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007) in London, so I would go out shopping. One day, I came back to the hotel with some fresh veggies and the hotel chef helped me whip up some nice dishes. That’s what got me interested in gourmet cuisine. I was still new and experimenting and remember how I had cooked a lot of prawn curry and did not know what to do, and Arshad again bailed me out, brought his gang of boys home, in London and they all ate my prawn curry."
Maria shares how she spent the entire day yesterday baking chocolate cookies, chocolate tart, cakey brownie and choco lava cake. She said, “My friends and family love my desserts specially the ones with chocolate. Chocolate not only makes you feel good, but it can also relax you. One of the desserts I make that Arshad enjoys is meringue. I remember how I used to make hundreds of chocolate muffins and kept on baking them till my kids grew up. My house used to be filled with that chocolate aroma! I am glad we are celebrating the day with some of my favourite chocolate desserts."
I actually learnt writing with both hands for 3 Idiots-Boman Irani

As told to Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 2, 2018)
I trained in football for Vivek Agnihotri’s sports drama Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal which also featured John Abraham, Arshad Warsi and Bipasha Basu among others. We had a coach who would teach us the technique and body language and that made a huge difference on-screen. You are eventually faking it but the audience has to believe that what they are watching is real. So even in the simplest of sequences when the ball comes rolling to you, you should know how to flick it to another player.
We shot at a club in London but before the shoot, we would practice at St. Andrew’s ground in Mumbai. Even during the shoot, we would play after pack up just for fun and soon I began to enjoy the game. I played the coach, Tony Singh, and didn’t require as much training as the others but I was diligent because onscreen, your eyes reflect your confusion. I sat through recordings of matches and observed how coaches gestured with instructions to players from the dug-out, laying the law down when they didn’t do what they said in the dressing room and also how they argued with the referee over a decision. I wanted to be an authentic coach on screen.
I learnt scuba diving for Happy New Year. In one sequence, we had to dive underwater without a tank and had a coordinator from UK who taught us breathing techniques. He’d strap a knots and crosses pad to his arm and when we reached the bottom of the pool, he’d make us play the game so we would get involved. When we felt the lack of oxygen, we’d tap him on the shoulder and he would give us a pipe. We’d suck in a lungful of breath and continue playing the game.
Don: The Chase Begins had a car chase shot in Langkawi which required me to drive while blinded by laundry hanging on a clothesline. Initially, they put a mask of my face on a stunt driver so it would look like I was driving. But Haji was a small guy and the eye-openings on the mask were coming down to his cheeks and the lip slit falling below his chin. Since the mask didn’t work Haji taught me a few tricks so I could pull off the scene on my own. That was my brush with stunt driving.
In 3 Idiots, I played an ambidextrous professor and practiced writing with both hands. That skill is of no use to me today but Virus liked showing off that he is a genius and so I had to learn it. I also had to learn how to stride through the corridors of a college looking like a king. As part of my prep, I’d dress up in character, enter a real class and observe what was happening. People would wonder what I was doing but I needed to inculcate that authority and arrogance in my walk.
In Rajkumar Hirani’s Lage Raho Munna Bhai, I played a sardar from Mumbai, Lucky Singh, whom I modelled myself on six sardars from Lamington Road. There are lots of spare part shops there and I’d sit there and make videos. I learnt how they dressed and behaved, suddenly breaking into Marathi without getting into the “Balle balles” and “Oyes”. One day, one of the sardars insisted I should also observe how they hung out with friends so I went with them to beer and fish restaurants in Sion- Koliwada and also watched them do seva in gurudwaras.
