Jaaved Jaaferi has worn many hats over the years — actor, host and dancer. But one thing he has missed doing in recent years is a full-fledged dance number on screen. He says, “I haven’t had a song picturized on me for years. Recently, I did dance with my son Meezaan in De De Pyaar De 2, but that’s different. I haven’t done a full-fledged dance number in 20 years and I hope that happens soon.”
Jaaved made his Bollywood debut with Meri Jung (1985), where his dancing skills were widely appreciated. Recalling that phase, the actor, who is currently judging the TV show India’s Best Dancer 5, says, “When I entered the industry, there was nobody doing that kind of dance. I brought a more athletic style, drawing from Western dance forms and blending jazz, contemporary, Indian folk, disco and breakdancing. Now, of course, dance has become an integral part of movies.”
Looking back on a career spanning over four decades, Jaaved says he has had his share of regrets, but chooses gratitude over dwelling on them. “I think all of us look back and say, ‘Maybe I could have done this a little better, maybe I shouldn’t have taken that up.’ But I believe one shouldn’t sit and harp on such things. You’ve got to move on, and that’s what I did. I’m in a state of thankfulness. What you have in your hands today is what matters. Just don’t make the same mistakes again — that’s what I’ve learnt.”
Jaaved has been part of films like 100 Days and Karm Yodha, as well as comedies such as Dhamaal and Singh Is Kinng. For him, versatility lies at the heart of acting. “An actor enjoys variety and becoming another person. I cover a wide spectrum as an actor. I can go completely crazy and slapstick, and then explore the darker side. That’s the versatility I’ve had in my work, and I want to continue with that,” he concludes.

The film to release in India on 5,000-5,500 screens, could earn up to Rs. 80 cr on opening day

Mumbai: After a string of underwhelming Bollywood sequels — War 2, Dhadak 2, Mastiii 4, Jolly LLB 3 and De De Pyaar De 2 — the industry is watching whether Dhurandhar 2 can buck the trend. Exhibitors and distributors are citing strong early demand that suggests the film could break the jinx at a time when Bollywood is grappling with box office volatility and old formulas that are no longer working.
According to film trade analysts, the film will release in India on 5,000–5,500 screens and is likely to record Rs 75-80 crore in collections on opening day, March 19.
Audience appetite has been whetted by the blockbuster success of espionage actioner Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and others. Released in 2025, Dhurandhar is one of the biggest films ever, having grossed Rs. 1005.8 crore in India alone and close to Rs. 300 crore in the overseas markets, according to box office data research firm Sacnilk.
In overseas markets, the sequel has generated advance or pre-release ticket sales worth $800,000.
“This is not an ordinary sequel. Audiences have already bought tickets worth more than Rs 5 crore for preview shows (March 18) alone,” said Shaaminder Malik, a film distributor and trade analyst. “They don’t want to know spoilers before their theatre experience. Tickets are being sold in a premium price range of Rs 300 to Rs 2,500 for a four-hour film. This shows the audience’s eagerness.”
Experts said Dhurandhar 2 is a proper tentpole release expected to drive significant box-office momentum.
“It is already reflected in its ticket sales,” said Gautam Dutta, CEO, revenue and operations, PVR Inox. “It will be the biggest release in terms of screens in India. In fact, a comforting factor is that the film has at least two weeks with no major release, which means the scope for record collections is high.”
Optimism about Dhurandhar 2’s performance increased recently with the release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups being delayed--it was to have debuted on the same day.
“The postponement of Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups has effectively cleared the competitive landscape for Dhurandhar 2,” said Suniel Wadhwa, co-founder and director, Karmic Films. “When two highly awaited big films don’t clash, exhibitors typically allocate 40–50% more premium screens and show slots to the releasing film, which can materially strengthen its opening-day collection. In theatrical economics, clashes create headlines, but clear release windows create box office records.”
Dhurandhar 2 will be dubbed in all four southern languages, unlike the original, which was released only in Hindi.
“The sequel is dubbed in multiple southern languages, which broadens its reach in the southern territories, thereby significantly boosting its India collections by at least 25–30%,” said producer Rajesh R Nair. Screen density, especially single-screen halls, and overall screen share (over 50%) in the southern markets is higher than in the rest of India.
Conservative estimates by trade analysts suggest the film could record an opening weekend collection of Rs 250-300 crore.
“In the absence of competition, I think the film’s collections could easily be boosted by at least 25%,” said Girish Johar, film producer and industry expert. “Given the high audience interest, I foresee an opening weekend collection of Rs 300 crore for the film.”

Actor Ishita Dutta Sheth says she returned to work just six months post welcoming her daughter after Drishyam 3 was announced

Actor Ishita Dutta Sheth is back on sets, six months after the birth of her second child, daughter Veda. With major projects coming her way, the actor says she chose not to take an extended break from work as everything unfolded “unexpectedly”, but “organically”.
The 35-year-old shares, “It was during the shoot of De De Pyaar De 2 (2025) that I got pregnant. I couldn’t take a break then because I really wanted to be part of it. Then my baby girl was born. I thought I would finally take some time off since she’s so young, but Drishyam 3 was announced, and I had to be back. It all happened so organically that I just went with the flow.”
Ishita admits that balancing work and motherhood, especially during a long shoot, is challenging: “It always feels good to be back at work, but after having a baby, it does get overwhelming. As a mother, it’s difficult. This is the first time since her birth that I’m on a long schedule. You keep thinking about how things will be when you’re not around, but ho hi jaata hai manage.”
She credits her family for making the return possible. “I’m lucky that my parents live with me and my in-laws are nearby, so they step in when needed,” she shares.
However, Ishita has made a conscious decision not to bring her children to shoot locations: “When you are constantly on the go, you never know where the scene is to be shot, where the vanity van will be, so taking them around everywhere is challenging.”
Being part of the Drishyam series remains deeply special for her. Ishita, who played actor Ajay Devgn’s daughter in the first two installments says, “Who doesn’t want to be part of a successful franchise? From the first film, when I was a newcomer, to now, when I’m a mother of two, this character has stayed closest to my heart. Working again with the OG cast, I just wanted to tell everyone, I’m back.”
Ishita married actor Vatsal Sheth in 2017. The couple welcomed their son Vaayu in July 2023, and daughter Veda in June 2025.

De De Pyaar De 2’s successful run at the box office has brought much joy to Rakul Preet Singh. What has made her happier is that she held her own in the family entertainer opposite strong performers like Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan.
“I didn’t feel apprehensive when I was approached for the movie, even though Ajay and Madhavan are brilliant actors. There was never a fear of getting overshadowed as I have craved opportunities that put me in front of good actors. That enhances one’s abilities to perform. In fact, I was excited to work with them,” she smiles.
Director Anshul Sharma’s film follows the hilarity that ensues when Singh’s character brings home her much-older love interest, played by Devgn, to introduce to her parents. De De Pyaar De 2 is the latest addition to the many feel-good films that Singh has fronted in the last few years, including Mere Husband Ki Biwi and Thank God (2022). As much as she enjoys the girl-next-door roles, the actor is now keen to shift gears.
She shares, “I have always wanted to break the glamorous and girl-next-door image because I don’t want to be put in a box where people think I can only do mainstream cinema. I would love to experiment with different genres — romance, intense roles, action movies, historical dramas, and biopics. I hope I get the opportunity to play different roles and go absolutely de-glam if I have to for a film.”
While ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ is Rakul Preet Singh’s first collaboration with R Madhavan, it marks her fourth outing with Ajay Devgn after ‘De De Pyaar De’ (2019), ‘Runway 34’ (2022), and ‘Thank God’ (2022).

In De De Pyaar De 2, Meezaan Jafri’s character arrives with swag, as he balances a split across two cars. But off screen, the actor — senior actor Jaaved Jaaferi’s son — doesn’t believe in stunts to grab eyeballs. “I’m here for the next 20–30 years. Slow and steady is my path,” says Meezaan, pleased that his latest release, led by Ajay Devgn, is having a strong run.
Slow is an unconventional choice in today’s age of instant gratification. But the actor believes he has made unconventional choices right from the start, when he skipped acting school in favour of filmmaking school. It was Ranbir Kapoor who advised him to do so.
“Ranbir was shooting Besharam [2013] with my father at the time. He told me, ‘Don’t apply to the usual places. Go to SVA [School of Visual Arts] in New York. It’s only filmmaking, no unnecessary subjects.’” Meezaan says that the piece of advice was a game-changer for him. “That school shaped how I look at films.”
The Malaal (2019) actor may not have had a breakout film yet, but he is not in a hurry. “Overnight success is scary. If you get a massive hit too early, you set a benchmark. I’d rather build slowly,” he reasons.
A film like De De Pyaar De 2, which sees him share screen space with his father, makes this ride joyful. And sometimes scary, says Meezaan, referring to their dance sequence. “I was terrified. I was dealing with Jaaved Jaaferi in his strongest zone!”

WILL 120 BAHADUR, MASTIII 4 SCORE AT THE BOX OFFICE?
Last week’s De De Pyaar De 2 has underperformed at the box office. Thankfully, it opened better than Ajay Devgn’s previous film, Son Of Sardaar 2, which collected Rs. 7.25 crores. De De Pyaar De 2 collected Rs. 8.25 crores on its release day, and then jumped to Rs. 12 crores and Rs. 13.25 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Sadly, it had a major fall on Monday, earning Rs. 3.75 crores. As expected, due to the offer, it saw a slight increase in the collections, earning Rs. 4.50 crores. The first week collections are expected to be Rs. 47-48 crores. If all goes well, it’ll earn around Rs. 65-70 crores in its lifetime.
This week will see the release of two diametrically opposite films. 120 Bahadur stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. This means that this is his first film as a lead in more than 4 years, the last one being Toofaan. This time, Farhan plays the role of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, who bravely fought the 1962 Indo-China war with a team of just 120 soldiers against thousands of Chinese armymen. The film looks like a quality product. Also, they have shot in real locations and that has added to the authenticity.
However, the songs of the film haven’t worked and it looks like an elite product. The makers held the paid previews on Tuesday, and the response was encouraging. Despite this sampling, the advance hasn’t picked up. If all goes well, 120 Bahadur will open at Rs. 3-4 crores.
Mastiii 4 stars Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani, who have always featured in the previous parts of the franchise as well – Masti (2004), Grand Masti (2013) and Great Grand Masti (2016). This time, they are joined by Ruhii Singh, Shreya Sharma, Elnaaz Norouzi, Natalia Janoszek, Shaad Randhawa and Nishant Singh Malkani, along with Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri. It is directed by Milap Zaveri, who also helmed the surprise Diwali hit, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.
The trailer of Mastiii 4 is full of naughty and adult jokes. While a section of the audience liked it, many found it offensive and crass. The ticket sales of this film, too, haven't been encouraging. Like 120 Bahadur, it might open at around Rs. 3-4 crores or even lower.
A section of the industry believes that today’s under 30 audience has never really experienced a sex comedy on the big screen. The way this demographic poured into cinemas for Saiyaara showed how hungry they are for bold, youth centric content. Mastiii 4 could tap into a similar curiosity factor, even if it is unlikely to match Saiyaara at the box office. If reports are positive and the buzz builds, the film can spring a surprise from Saturday. In that sense, strong word of mouth will be absolutely vital.

(Crisp) Movie Review: DE DE PYAAR DE 2 by FENIL SETA

De De Pyaar De 2 begins on an entertaining note. The way the makers do a recap sets the mood. The first half has no song and one doesn't feel the need for it. There's enough humour and, surprisingly, even drama happening in the narrative. The intermission point is interesting. Post-interval, however, the film gets too silly. The twist is unexpected for sure, but it's also far-fetched. Unlike the first half, songs are poor. Thankfully, the last 5-10 minutes are funny. Though Ajay Devgn's screen time is comparatively less, he makes his presence felt from start to finish. He uses his intense eyes very well to convey his emotions in a crucial scene without speaking a single dialogue. R Madhavan is superb and he does full justice. He excels not just in comic but also in dramatic and emotional scenes. Rakul Preet Singh delivers one of her best or arguably the best performance of her career. Meezaan Jafri also gives his career-best act. Gautami Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi are dependable. Ishita Dutta has a crucial role in the first half and does well. All in all, De De Pyaar De 2 is a good time-pass flick.

WILL DE DE PYAAR DE 2 MANAGE TO BE A SUCCESS LIKE ITS PREDECESSOR?
Last week’s Haq has underperformed at the box office, despite near-unanimous acclaim. It opened at Rs. 1.85 crores and though it jumped to Rs. 3.35 crores on Saturday, the growth on Sunday didn’t come as expected. On its third day, it collected Rs. 3.75 crores. A film like this needs to earn as much as Friday on Monday. But Haq collected Rs. 1.10 crores on day 4. The first week will end around Rs. 14 crores and it remains to be seen if it can cross the Rs. 20 crore mark.
Meanwhile, all eyes are now on De De Pyaar De 2, which releases tomorrow. It stars Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Rakul Preet Singh. It is the sequel to De De Pyaar De, which was a decent hit and loved for its characters and humour. That part starred Ajay, Rakul and Tabu and the latter is absent this time.
De De Pyaar De 2’s trailer is promising and it looks like a fun-filled entertainer, just like part 1. However, De De Pyaar De’s first part had a chartbuster song. This factor is missing from the sequel as none of the tracks have become that popular. And this has reflected in the ticket sales.
The advance booking is not upto the mark and the hope is that the film will pick up after 4:00 pm on Friday once the word of mouth spreads. De De Pyaar De had collected Rs. 8.13 crores and at present, it doesn’t seem like the sequel will be able to match these collections. The target at present is to cross the Rs. 7.25 crores day 1 collections of Son Of Sardaar 2, which was released earlier this year.
The advantage for De De Pyaar De 2 is that it arrives solo. If public reports are positive, it can see a major jump on Saturday and Sunday. The next week’s films (120 Bahadur, Mastiii 4) are in a different zone and hence, De De Pyaar De 2 has chances to put up a decent Week 2 total as well. But again, it all depends on a positive word of mouth.

New instalments dominate 2025 slate of superstar Ajay Devgn, who will wrap up De Pyaar De 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 by February; to kick off Dhamaal 4 in summer

If franchise films are the ticket to success today as many filmmakers and trade analysts will have you believe, Ajay Devgn seems to have a winning hand. The superstar has seven franchise films in the pipeline, with his 2025 release slate consisting of three sequels — Raid 2, De De Pyaar De 2, and Son Of Sardaar 2. He will also shoot for the latest instalment of Dhamaal this year, while scripting of Drishyam 3, Shaitaan 2 and Golmaal 5 is in process.
For now, director Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyaar De 2 has Devgn’s undivided attention. An insider reveals, “With Rakul Preet Singh and R Madhavan, Ajay is filming the 12-day schedule at various sets across Mumbai. The cast and crew will head to Punjab by mid-February for the final leg during which two songs and some emotional scenes will be canned.”
The actor will then swiftly move from the world of the romantic comedy to that of his action comedy. The insider adds, “While in Punjab, Ajay will also shoot a song for Son Of Sardaar 2, after which it will be a wrap on the movie that also stars Mrunal Thakur and Ravi Kishan.”
Summer will see the actor returning to the universe of Dhamaal, six years after headlining the last instalment, Total Dhamaal (2019). While Total Dhamaal’s stars Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit-Nene will be missing in the upcoming instalment, Devgn will reunite with franchise regulars Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi for Indra Kumar’s directorial venture.
A source reveals, “The unit will kick off the shoot in Mumbai before heading to Goa for an elaborate schedule in April. Indra-ji has got bulk dates of the cast and will film the comedy in a straight schedule till August, readying it for a Diwali release. The adventure comedy, produced by Ajay and Bhushan Kumar, among others, has been written by Paritosh Painter, Balwinder Singh Suri and Bunty Rathore.”
By the year-end, it will be time for the superstar to prep for what is easily among his most loved franchises—Drishyam 3. We’ve heard that the crime thriller’s script is currently being penned by the writing teams of the Malayalam and Hindi versions, with director Jeethu Joseph leading the former. The source adds, “The plan is to shoot Mohanlal’s Malayalam and Ajay’s Hindi versions simultaneously in 2026.”

R Madhavan, who moves on to Dhurandhar with Ranveer Singh after Hisaab Barabar, states ensemble films have enriched his career over the years

You’ll see me a lot this year,” promises R Madhavan when we call him to speak about Hisaab Barabar. The ZEE5 thriller is his first project of what will be a busy year, with De De Pyaar De 2, a rom-com with Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Dhurandhar in the pipeline. Incidentally, each of his characters is different.
“I want to do roles that I can relate to. I’ve had such varied life experiences that I know how a railway man behaves, as well as how someone in Decoupled [2021] does. My wife says, ‘You’ve done a comedy in English, dramas in English and Tamil, and action. Why can’t you make up your mind about who you are?’ That’s exactly who I am, someone who can’t make up their mind,” he laughs.
What drew Madhavan to Hisaab Barabar, also starring Kirti Kulhari and Neil Nitin Mukesh, is the story’s relatability. Ashwini Dhir’s directorial venture revolves around how a ticket collector uncovers a bank scam.
“History has seen that the moment the regime starts derailing the common man’s life, [he will fight back]. This has been explored beautifully in the film,” shares the actor.
After Hisaab Barabar, Madhavan will star alongside Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna and Arjun Rampal in Dhurandhar. The actor’s filmography is peppered with ensemble films despite the industry’s perception that they pose a risk to one’s stardom. Mention this, and he simply says,
“Imagine all the ensemble films that I’ve done. Now, imagine me not doing a Rang De Basanti [2006], or 3 Idiots [2009] or Vikram Vedha [2017]. Whose loss would it have been? Even though my role in Rang De Basanti was only for nine minutes, being part of such projects adds to my immortality as an actor. In 3 Idiots, I was playing second fiddle to Aamir Khan. But it didn’t upset my stardom in Tamil [cinema]. These are barriers that people in the industry draw around themselves to protect their own insecurities. I don’t have such insecurity.”
Madhavan recalls being advised against being a part of Anbe Sivam (2002) with Kamal Haasan. “Everyone said, ‘He is not known to share credit.’ But he bent over backwards to make sure that I got the role of a lifetime,” he recounts.

Father-son duo Meezaan and Jaaved Jaaferi are set to come together on the silver screen for the first time. A source says the two have started shooting for Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film De De Pyaar De 2. The Luv Ranjan directorial is the sequel to Ajay’s 2019 film, which also featured Rakul Preet and Tabu.
The source tells us, “Luv Ranjan has been extremely tight-lipped about the project. It is said that Meezaan plays Rakul Preet’s ex or new love interest, while Javed is expected to essay the role of Meezaan’s father. The two have started shooting for it.” Meezaan, who made his Bollywood debut with Malaal in 2019, was last seen in Yaariyan 2 (2003).
De De Pyaar De 2 also stars R Madhavan. It remains to be seen whether Tabu will be a part of the sequel. “The makers want to keep that as a surprise element. She may return with a cameo,” the source adds.
Earlier while talking to us, Meezaan spoke about finding his own path and craving his own destiny in the industry. Meezaan refrains from using his last name. On his Instagram the actor chooses to stick to his first name and ironically even for his debut movie Malaal, his first name was utilized. While others may stick to their legacy and may bank on it, Meezaan is quite certain of not doing that.
“When Malaal came my screen name was only Meezaan. We wanted the name to be as is because it doesn’t hold any religious or family baggage. Also, it’s a unique and a standalone name. Even for Instagram, I just wanted it to be Meezaan,” the actor told us.
He also added, “My father always said, ‘Do it on your own terms, you have a fresh image; this way you don’t let anything come in your way as such’. So this way I am creating a standalone identity of mine courtesy of my work and not letting because of my family. I want to be known for my performances."

Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh-starrer comedy De De Pyaar De (2019) is getting a sequel, which is currently in production. The film was earlier supposed to feature actor Anil Kapoor, too. However, he later opted out and was replaced by actor R Madhavan, marking a back-to-back collaboration between him and Devgn after Shaitaan. We’ve now learnt some exclusive details about his character.
A source close to the development says, “Madhavan will play Rakul’s father in De De Pyaar De 2. The plot of the film will now be on the lines of the hilarious one-upmanship that will ensue between Ajay and Madhavan — over Rakul’s character dating a man older than her father. With Anil, that plotline wouldn’t have had the desired impact, since Anil is older than Ajay, but now, with Madhavan essaying the role, it fits the narrative aptly,” confirming that actor Tabu, who played Devgn’s wife in the first film, will not be returning.
De De Pyaar De followed the story of Ayesha (Singh), who falls in love with the much older Aashish (Devgn). In the sequel, the story will focus on how Ayesha’s family reacts to her relationship with an older man. The film is being directed by Anshul Sharma and is presently being shot in Mumbai with Singh and Devgn.
