The recent Oscar nominees’ luncheon was a ‘real honour’ for actor Ali Fazal for more reasons than one

Having attended the Oscar nominees’ luncheon this year as a member of the Academy, actor Ali Fazal says meeting Hollywood creative forces such as actors Tom Cruise and Brendan Fraser motivates him to push himself as an artiste.
“I got to meet such wonderful talent from all across the board, and I have watched all of their work. It was a real honour to just have a nice, relaxed afternoon with everyone,” Fazal tells us.
On Wednesday, the 36-year-old Instagrammed pictures from the luncheon, including happy moments with filmmakers Guneet Monga and Shaunak Sen, both of whom have received nods for their documentaries, The Elephant Whisperers and All That Breathes, respectively.
“There are just too many cherished memories from the lunch. Getting fist bumps from Tom Cruise is definitely top of the list, and so is sharing notes with Martin McDonagh (filmmaker) — whose plays I have performed on stage. It was nice to meet Brendan Fraser and a lot of other people out there, and learn that they know of my work. It is encouraging for an actor like me and has been the biggest takeaway from the luncheon,” says the actor, who has found a fan following in the West after starring in Victoria & Abdul (2017) and Death On The Nile (2022).
Talking about his role as an Academy member, Fazal says, “My responsibilities and that of all Indian members is to be on the global stage. Indian Academy members have a role to play in storytelling across the globe,” Fazal shares, adding that he is rooting for the country at the awards this year.
“I am championing all the nominations. We’ve had a great representation from India. All That Breathes (2022) is one of the best films I have seen — and I am not saying this because it is from India and I know the team,” he signs off.

BOMBAY TIMES (March 4, 2018)
Here’s some good news for Abhay Deol fans. The actor spent last year setting the stage for five films that are in post production and now, he has signed two more.
Abhay has just wrapped up shooting with Brendan Fraser (of The Mummy and George Of The Jungle fame) for the film, The Field, which is a thriller based on the land mafia in Delhi. The actor will be seen getting into a cop avatar in the movie.
From the start of his career, Abhay has always taken chances with his film choices, even when it comes to working with first-time directors — Imtiaz Ali, Reema Kagti or Navdeep Singh. Five of the seven films he’s working on currently, are being helmed by new directors. Talking about it, the actor says, “I’m very excited, I love working with new talent. My endeavour is to raise the bar with every project I do.”
Meanwhile, the actor is working on another out-of-the-box dark comedy, Nanu Ki Jannu that will hit theatres in April 2018. The movie is an afterlife love story and stars Abhay and Patralekhaa in leading roles.
Post the comedy, he will complete filming for JL-50, a Canadian production in Hindi. He will then start working on Sahlath, which will go on floors in June.
With so many releases on his plate, looks like Abhay’s fans will have a variety to choose from.

Hollywood actor Brendan Fraser landed in Mumbai on Monday to shoot for Rohit Batra's American film in which he takes on the role of an under-the-radar arms dealer based in Delhi

Brendan Fraser who played Rick O'Connell in The Mummy trilogy and is equally well-known for comedies and fantasies like Encino Man, George of the Jungle, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Inkheart, as also dramas like The Quiet American and Crash, landed in Mumbai yesterday for an eight-day shoot of Rohit Batra's American film, The Field. He will start from June 17 and they will be filming around the city. The American-Canadian actor who loves India but is here this time to work, will be in the Maximum City for around 12-13 days before he flies back to the US.
The film is a cops-and-robbers story featuring actors from around the world. Brendan reportedly plays an under-the-radar arms dealer settled in Delhi and The Field is the name of the undercover operation.
According to a source, the actor liked the script immediately which is dark, with thrill elements, and is a good balance of drama and comedy. Even though it is a character role it has all the attributes of a leading role, with plenty of scope for histrionics and a depth to the character. "India is very special and he wanted to be a part of a good project. The Field was right up his street," adds the source.
The film is very Indian in its story which is about family and obligations but the way it has been structured and will be presented is very Hollywood. It also features Ronit Roy, Neeraj Kabi and Prem Chopra and while some of the characters speak in Hindi, Brendan will be required to speak only in English.
