Roadies rejected me 17 years ago, today I am a judge on it-Gautam Gulati

Gautam Gulati’s journey in showbiz came full circle when he joined the judging panel for the 19th season of Roadies -- Karm Ya Kaand, the same reality show he had auditioned for around 17 years ago. He recalls, “Though my audition went well, I was rejected. So, when the makers offered me to join the show as a judge, I decided to take it up and check it off my list.”

The show has become a topic of discussion due to the ongoing and constant conflicts between Prince Narula and his co-judges Gautam and Rhea Chakraborty. Talking about his altercations with Prince, Gautam says, “I don’t understand what his problem is. I used to like him but that was before I witnessed his dual personality. He is short-tempered and is probably not happy about the presence of new judges. I overlooked his brash behaviour for as long as possible, but when he went overboard, I had a discussion with the channel. Even Salman Khan called him and told him that he was roped in as a judge and he should act like one. Though he apologized, he was soon back to his rude self. Some people don’t change. Aap badtamameezi kar lo, bolo ki aapki aukaat kya hai... he may believe its good for the show but I don’t agree with it. We have to consider the young viewers. Maybe, Prince likes doing all of that. It’s better to distance myself from him. I can’t stoop to his level. However, if he disrespects me again, I will take a strong step.”

He adds, “I am way senior to this guy. It’s fine not to respect your senior, but don’t disrespect him. He has won a few reality shows, and I have done 25 shows. However, I don’t believe in boasting or flaunting my achievements or wealth, as it is against my principles. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what was happening on the show, and I found it shallow. Maybe, my presence is becoming a problem for him. If he feels intimidated by me, it’s not my problem. He can claim that the show is an emotion for him, but I believe I am more dedicated and committed to it.”

Talking about his journey in showbiz, after winning Bigg Boss 8 (2015), Gautam took a break from daily soaps to focus on films. However, his Bollywood career didn’t take off the way it was expected to.

Ask him about it, and he replies, “I am not desperate for work and prioritize quality over quantity. Besides, filhaal bade badon ki films nahin chal rahi hain. Risk lekar hain mujhe bhi koi kaam nahi karna. I will wait to take up a project that resonates with me. Everyone knows how difficult it is for an outsider to make a breakthrough in films. Earlier, I was a bit impulsive and would take up projects only to eventually realize that either my role was reduced or the film didn’t release. It was a difficult phase but I chose not to blame anyone. Currently, I am reading some scripts and hopefully will soon be seen on an OTT platform. In the meantime, I am focusing on my businesses. An actor must have an alternative source of income to avoid any financial difficulties.”

How can they say that I won Khatron Ke Khiladi because I am glamorous?-Karishma Tanna

The actress hits out at trolls, who felt that she did not deserve to win the action-based reality show
Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; July 28, 2020)

On Sunday, Karishma Tanna became the winner of Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (KKK) 10, after beating actor Karan Patel and choreographer Dharmesh Yelande in the finale. While the actress is happy about her victory, trolls have attacked her saying that she was chosen, because she is glamorous. Talking to BT about it, Karishma said, “How can they say that I won KKK because I am glamorous? I have been part of Bigg Boss 8 (first runner-up), Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 and Nach Baliye 7 (second runner-up). On each show, I came close to winning the crown and then, the trophy went to someone else. If I won this trophy because I am glamorous, why didn’t I win earlier?”

The actress is not letting the trolls dampen her spirit. She said, “I am very happy; my calm attitude and perseverance helped me win. I used to be restless and impulsive in the past, but now, I have realised that patience is definitely a virtue. While it’s natural to feel scared when facing a tiger or a snake, I kept reminding myself that I could do every task, if I remained calm. I got several bruises and injuries, and my back and neck still hurt, but that is a part and parcel of KKK.”

So, what does she plan to do next? “I plan to do some meaningful roles now. It is high time people know me for my talent and not just glamour,” Karishma replied.

Will Salman Khan work with Rohit Shetty next?

Bollywood’s numero uno actor Salman Khan is currently promoting his Eid offering Bharat. His next release after the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is Dabangg 3, which is slated to open in cinemas on December 20.

Post July, the 53-year-old will start shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah, in which he stars opposite the 26-year-old Alia Bhatt. This film is meant to be his Eid 2020 release. Despite such a chock-a-block schedule, the industry folk and fans alike are wondering about Salman’s next venture.

Ali is said to be working on the script of Tiger 3 — a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) for the Dabangg Khan. However, the superstar says it is wrong to assume that he will definitely do the third part of the espionage thriller franchise after he finishes SLB’s film. “I’ve come across some very interesting scripts,” he tells us. He adds further, “I may do one of those before I start Tiger 3.”

When we quiz him about the rumour that Rohit Shetty and he may collaborate, SK quips, “Why is it a rumour? Rohit and I have talked about working together. There is nothing definite yet. If our talks materialise into something, you’ll hear about it.” Hmmm... the suspense on whether the Simmba director and the Race 3 actor collaborate in the near future continues. However, we can just say that the speculation is not completely unfounded.

SUPERHIT MACHINE MEETS DABANGG KHAN
Rohit Shetty has previously directed Salman Khan for the promos of Bigg Boss Season 8. In the campaign, the Dabangg Khan played a pilot. One of the ads had Salman lying on the conveyor belt and talking about the contestants.

Natasa Stankovic bags lead role in 7 Hours To Go, thanks to Salman Khan

Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 16, 2015)

Meet the latest Salman Khan protege who is all set to make a splash in Bollywood. No surprises that she is a firang beauty. The actor who has a fondness for foreign women has turned mentor for former Bigg Boss 8 contestant, Serbian model Natasa Stankovic.

Natasha, whose film credits include an item number in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha and a cameo in Action Jackson, will be seen as the leading lady in the thriller 7 Hours To Go. "Yes, I am aware that Salman has given a boost to the career of many actresses in Bollywood and I am lucky to not remain just an item girl. Thanks to him I have bagged a meaningful role," Natasa told Mirror.

Directed by Saurabh Varma, the film follows a man (Shiv Pandit) who comes to Mumbai looking for work and is an eyewitness to a murder. He ends up taking seven hostages and has only seven hours to figure out the mystery behind the crime.

Natasha who plays his love interest reveals that when she was leaving the Bigg Boss house, Salman told her that she needed to work on her Hindi. "He even told me whom I should train with to correct my accent," she says.

Interestingly, Varma had cast another of Bhai's firang fixation, former Bigg Boss contestant, Elli Avram, in, Mickey Virus. "I have had a long term connection with Bigg Boss and Salman Khan. Elli, was one of Salman's favourites and her presence on the show and her proximity to Bhai helped me promote my film," the director admitted.

A look at what ex-winners are doing ever since they won Bigg Boss

Just 15 minutes of fame?
As makers prepare to bring together ex-winners in the next season of Bigg Boss, here is what the champs have been doing since
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 5, 2015)

Bigg Boss Season 8 winner, Gautam Gulati, is still celebrating after picking up the trophy on Saturday. But the title and the pay cheque is not all that attracts 'almost famous' names to the reality show. The promise of national fame is a bigger pull and with dedicated fan clubs like 'Gauti Rulez' and 'We love Gautam', it looks like the TV actor is on the right track. And the Diya Aur Baati Hum star who doesn't want to do TV anymore, may be back in the house next season. The channel is planning to bring back all the previous winners for an all-stars version in Season 9.

Most of these faces will reappear on TV after a long absence because while Bigg Boss does promise instant fame, it is often short-lived. A good example is Bigg Boss Season 2 winner Ashutosh Kaushik who seems to have vanished from B-town. His former spokesperson says, "He's nowhere to be found." The 35-year-old actor who was last seen in bit parts in Zila Ghaziabad and Shortcut Romeo in 2013 has since gone MIA. Will he reappear for the Bigg Boss reunion later this year? Only time will tell. But here's what the other contestants who took home the trophy have to say about returning to the house.

GAUAHAR KHAN
Season 7: 'There Is No Novelty Left'
Days in the house: 104
Prize: Rs 50 lakh
Status: Awaiting release of Fever oposite Rajeev Khandelwal

I would be lying if I said that the show did not give me love, fame and make me seem like a 'bahut accha insaan'. It also got me a film offer. But I went on to do more television shows like India's Raw Stars on my own merit. And I am not going back to the house because there is no novelty left in it for me anymore.

VINDOO DARA SINGH
Season 3: 'I'll be back for the all-star season'
Days in the house: 84
Prize: Rs 1 crore, a Chevrolet Cruze
Status: No acting gigs but has admitted to betting on IPL matches and is throwing a Bigg Boss get-together tomorrow

I am addicted to the show. But I hated the Halla Bol format which allowed former contestants to come back into the house. I would never go back as a participant. I am already a winner. But I'll be back for the season of all the winners, next year. I have given my thumbs up to it because having all the winners in the house will be exciting. We'll break the TRPs.

RAHUL ROY
Season 1: 'The host has to be a superstar like Salman Khan'
Days in the house: 90
Prize: Rs 1 crore
Status: Awaiting the release of 2B Or Not 2B and filming 100 Crores

I will go back to the house for the ninth season only if the makers agree to not make the show so predictable. I knew Gautam would win two weeks before he did. Also, people watch the show for the host, who should be a superstar like Salman Khan.None of the contestants can entertain viewers for three straight months. I was the first to survive the house and it felt like a battle won; now it's too trite.

URVASHI DHOLAKIA
Season 6: 'The show was my last on-screen appearance'
Days in the house: 104
Prize: Rs 50 lakh
Status: Owns media company in Dubai

I refused Halla Bol because I thought it was unfair to the other participants. But I'll be back next season. I had turned down the show for four years before I finally gave in. I wasn't disappointed that the prize money was reduced by half. I didn't care. Before I entered the house, I was shooting round-theclock. Being in the house made me feel like I was back to boarding school. After coming out, I didn't want to work and quit the industry.

SHWETA TIWARI
Season 4: 'Bigg Boss is celebrity rehab'
Days in the house: 100
Prize: Rs. 1 crore
Status: Moved to Delhi

I was always popular. The show made me famous but it didn't do anything for my career. My remuneration didn't go down but my weight did. It is like vipasana or celebrity rehab.

There's no liquor, no chicken, no fattening food in the house and you learn to save water. It's a priceless experience!

JUHI PARMAR
Season 5: 'My career ended after I left the house'
Days in the house: 99
Prize: Rs 1 crore
Status: Being mummy

I was signed in July and the show began in October. But in those three months, I turned down lots of TV shows with feeble excuses. Three months after wining Bigg Boss, I got married. Now my three-year old daughter is my life. I haven't been approached for the all-winners season. But even if I were I wouldn't leave my baby.

I regret going into the bathroom with Diandra Soares-Gautam Gulati

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; February 2, 2015)

It was difficult to place him as a celebrity when he had entered the show, given his humble beginnings as a character actor on television. However, Gautam Gulati survived as many as 11 nominations to emerge the winner of the eighth season of Bigg Boss.

The actor says he had no particular agenda when he entered the house. “I went there for a new experience and personal growth. I wanted to entertain people and make new friends. I was proved wrong as they began targeting me. They began playing games during the first task, which I was not prepared for and I swore. They used that to their advantage and alienated me. That was the weakest phase, but it helped me connect with Bigg Boss then. I started speaking my mind, instead of succumbing to herd mentality on the show,“ he says.

So, what does he think worked in his favour? “My positivity, humanity and family values. The four-month long show was a compressed version of your whole life. The viewers get to see your real personality, no matter what you do to try and hide it,“ he says.

The one thing that will take a while to get erased from our memories is the kiss episode -not just with Diandra Soares, but also with Ali Quli Mirza. Gautam maintains that Diandra was and is just a friend and there can be nothing more than that between them. “Yes, I kissed her. Is that a crime?“ he asks, “It's natural to feel attracted to somebody and it's not wrong. She kissed me first, which I thought was quite daring. After that she teased me and called me a phattu. I kissed her to prove her wrong. One day, she dragged me inside the bathroom. We spent five minutes inside. The world is free to believe whatever they wish to, but the reality is that we just kissed. In retrospect, I regret going into the bathroom with Diandra. The impression was that she is my girlfriend, which was not the case. There was nothing between us and will never be so. I have always drawn a line in every relationship and I would never overstep that. We are just friends and there can be nothing beyond that. In fact, my mother is planning to get me married in a year's time.“

What about the smooch episode with Ali? “That was extremely annoying. At one point, I felt like slapping him hard, but had to control my temper. When he couldn't break me with his nasty comments, he started resorting to cheap tactics,“ he replies. Besides his flamboyance, it was his shirtless avatar that was a big hit with the female audience. It kept the temperature outside the house and his female fanbase increasing. “I have lost five kilos and have come out with a better body. I love to roam shirtless inside my house, which is exactly how I was on the show. Nigaar Khan didn't like it. I even asked her what world and century is she living in?“ he laughs.

There have been several occasions when Gautam seemed to have overreacted, one such instance being the suitcase task where they had to stand inside a cage pressing a button. He had stormed out of the cage when Ali spoke about homosexuality to provoke him as a part of his plan. “It wasn't the homosexuality comment that angered me. What ticked me off was that nobody came to my support or defence when Ali was making those nasty and below-the-belt comments,“ he says.

Many even felt that the actor was playing the sympathy card with all the crying in the house. “Never,“ denies Gautam, adding, “I felt so alone that I did break down on many occasions. How can a man cry so much just to fake it? Those were my real emotions. I am a strong guy and would never seek anybody's sympathy . There were times when the torture was so unbearable that I would blast.“

Ask him about his plan of action now and he replies, “No TV at the moment. I am getting some Bollywood offers. The show was like a movie that lasted four months and hence, it feels like a debut in Bollywood, already,“ he signs off.

I wouldn’t want to marry an actress, but if it’s Alia Bhatt, I will-Gautam Gulati

Bigg Boss 8 winner Gautam Gulati says he will only marry an actress if it’s someone like Miss Bhatt
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; February 2, 2015)

Gautam Gulati (Diya Aur Baati Hum’s Vikram Rathi) was the underdog when he entered Bigg Boss 8 as the underdog. He seemed indifferent and preoccupied in the initial days of the show till he had a flare-up with Karishma Tanna. Suddenly, Gauti as he is fondly called came into the limelight and after apologising to Karishma has been a modicum of decency. His going shirtless, flashing his six-pack abs and his style of dressing has had his female fans swooning over him. Even Sonali Raut and Diandra Soares were drawn to him. In a survey conducted by Ormax Media his popularity share was more than all the other contestants put together. Here the Bigg Boss winner talks about his eventful journey, attraction to Diandra Soares, equation with Karishma and the kind of girl he will marry...

What is the first thing you want to do now that the show is over?
I just want to go back to Delhi with my mom, spend time with my family. It’s been a stressful four months and I need to unwind. But there are a few formalities I have to complete in Mumbai first.

Have you thought about what you want to do next?
Yes, I have three good offers. I will be reading the scripts and decide which one I want to do.

Are the offers from TV or films?
They are all film offers. Just before I went into the house, I had gone to Cannes as my film Coward (Darpok) was being screened there. I got a chance to walk the red carpet and that changed my thinking. I want to do projects that are on a certain level now.

So, no more TV?
I will do TV only if there’s something interesting, big and as organised as Bigg Boss. This show has changed my life in a big way. I may do reality shows – the channel has talked to me about Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, which I could take up. If it’s a big reality show I will definitely think about it, but no serials for now.

Is the Gautam who went inside the house four months ago different now?
Yes. I have learned a lot inside the house. I would say, I have learnt about life in these four months! To be honest, it’s not been easy at all. The biggest reason for anybody’s downfall is his anger. I learned how to control mine, never to raise a hand — which I never did anyway, and not to use abusive language. Yes, there were fights but I didn’t give gaalis. I have also become dark and lost four-five kilos.

You came into the limelight because you used an abusive word against Karishma...
Yes, but I agreed I shouldn’t have said it and I felt bad about it. But my intention was not bad. It was something that came out of pain. In the task, she applied chilli powder on my face and eyes — even when I remember I get jitters — and what I said came out involuntarily. But uske baad ek jung shuru ho gayi. Everybody was against me and I realised if somebody wants you out, he/she will do anything. I was alone. My energy had drained and I was feeling low. Slowly, things started changing Salman sir and people supported me and I began opening up. But I must say, if Karishma hadn’t started the jung, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to prove myself in the show.

What is your equation with Karishma now?
It’s all good. Her mother hugged me, told me to forget everything and invited me to their house for lunch.

Will you be taking your friendship with Diandra Soares forward?
Diandra is a very nice girl. People from outside have been telling me that she was supporting me. Yes, things happened between us – Emraan Hashmi zone happened before we had a chance to talk about our relationship! There was attraction, but at the same jo cheez possible nahi hai woh nahi hai. We are friends and I won’t do anything that will hurt anybody. Many a times friendships survive, relationships don’t.

Are you saying this because your family is against the relationship?
No. Diandra is aware that I am younger than her and its (relationship) not possible. I draw a line, so there is a friendship.

Does that mean you will marry a girl of your mother’s choice?
It’s a different thing if I fall in love, otherwise, it’ll be whoever mom chooses.

Are you open to marrying an actress?
Ideally, I wouldn’t want to marry an actress, but if it’s Alia Bhatt, I will. She is cute, my kind of girl. She and I go to the same gym but we haven’t. I am a shy type of person so haven’t spoken to her.

What are you planning to do with the Rs 50 lakh you have won?
I will add some more money to it and buy a house in Mumbai at a good location. It’s time I buy one now. In fact, right from childhood, I had this wish that I should and will buy everything I need with my own money.

I knew a month ago that I’d win Bigg Boss-Gautam Gulati

Gautam Gulati who will now take a break from TV to promote his Hollywood project
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 2, 2015)

Diya Aur Baati Hum star Gautam Gulati who was declared the winner of Bigg Boss Season 8 by Halla Bol host Farah Khan, wishes the other Khan, Salman, had been at the grand finale. “I really wanted Salman sir to present me with the trophy. Every Gen X Bollywod actor, be it Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan or Ranveer Singh, looks up to him. And I’ve been a crazy ‘Bhai’ fan since I was a child. I was shocked when he left the show prematurely,” sighs the 30-year-old actor.

Farah Khan was rooting for him, along with thousands of others, before she slipped into her role as an “impartial“ host.

Quiz Gautam on his chances and he reveals, “I had a gut feeling. I knew a month before the show ended that I'd win it. I was tortured for four months but never lost my cool. After the fight with Karishma Tanna, I was isolated but didn't lose hope. I clung on to Salman sir's words that 'Aapki zindagi iss ghar ke bahar hai, yahaan aap sirf insaan ya victory chose karte ho' after the incident,“ he reminisces.

Wild card entry, Ali Quli Mirza, also had a fistfight with him inside the house but once he stepped out, Ali's family, apologized for their 'tedha' son and congratulated him. So, all is well that ends well! However, he swears never to enter the Bigg Boss house again. “It has been the most traumatic experience of my life,“ he shudders. “I have cried more than I thought any man could. I will never go back.“

Film and TV offers have been flowing in, but he plans to promote his Hollywood project Coward (Darpok). It was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and is yet to release in India.

He says, “I want to take a break from TV. Bigg Boss has given me name, fame, money, everything. I now want to do films, I will release Darpok in India this year.“

Upen Patel & my relationship is genuine-Karishma Tanna

Karishma Tanna talks about Upen Patel, her equation with Gautam Gulati and her eventful journey in the Bigg Boss house
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; February 2, 2015)

Since Day One of Bigg Boss 8, Karishma Tanna captured eyeballs for her sartorial sense. Her fight with Gautam Gulati got her into focus, her choosing make-up over releasing Sushant Divgikar from slave duties made her unpopular among the housemates. She created a sense of intrigue by constantly talking about being in a committed relationship and took everyone by surprise by accepting Upen Patel’s proposal. She all but tipped the scales from Gautam Gulati to her in the race for votes but finally lost the battle and emerged as the runner-up...

You could have been the winner. Are you happy being the runner-up?
I would have been happier if I had won the show, but it’s okay. Life doesn’t end here. Whoever has reached till here has won. I feel I am a winner myself. I tried my best, par abhi toh picture baaki hai.

Have you made peace with Gautam Gulati?
Yes, relations change every day. He kind of abused me, and I didn’t like it. He wanted to blame me for some or the other reason. Plus, I found him to be very childish. I had forgotten things and my personality is such that after I have a fallout with someone, I forget it, grow in life and move on. However, he always brought it up and irritated me one way or another. In the end, all became good, because he didn’t bring up the topic and neither did I. We became friends.

Do you see any changes in yourself?
Yes, I have become more patient and more positive. I have realised that I should not be too stubborn and learn to relax.

Who would you consider your friend from the show?
Except for Upen (Patel), I didn’t find any real friends in the show. Upen is the only guy whom I trust.

What about Dimpy? You had become good friends with her before things turned sour...
Yes, but that happens between friends. We fought and came back together. I feel everyone’s good in
their own way, but it’s the situation that makes you a little negative or bad. We managed to get out of all that and patch up again after fights.

Do you blame Rahul Mahajan for things straining between you and Dimpy?
Yes, he spoke bulls**t, said things he is not supposed to. He said unnecessary things to me, to Dimpy and in front of the camera. I don’t know what he was up to but he disrespected me and Dimpy.

You even seem to have had issues with Salman Khan as we saw in the show. Did you ever feel he is being unfair to you?
It was his job to be a good host. Salman is a strong opinionated man and we had a difference of opinion. It’s not necessary that whatever he spoke was right or whatever I said was right. Sometimes our opinions matched, sometimes they didn’t. But where he had to support me, he did.

Did things go wrong with your boyfriend Rushabh Choksi after you had entered the show, or were relations strained from before?
I have talked enough about him in the show. I have taken the right decision, but now I don’t want to speak about it. I have been really grilled and judged in the show and I am done with it.

Are you taking your relationship with Upen Patel forward, now that you are away from the cameras?
Yes, definitely. Our feelings for each other and the relationship, all of it is genuine. I want to see how my life goes on with him.

The astrologer who visited the house said your relationship with Upen won’t last...
I don’t believe in all that. I make my own destiny.

Somebody asked me, 'Karishma Tanna ka baal itna accha kaise rehta hai?'-Farah Khan

Roshni K Olivera (BOMBAY TIMES; February 1, 2015)

The drama inside the Bigg Boss house has come to an end and it's not just the viewers who are going to miss it. Host Farah Khan will also crave her daily dose of entertainment. Excerpts from an interview with Farah before the grand finale of Bigg Boss Season 8 on Colors.

Who do you think should win? You have a favourite?
All the five finalists have provided the maximum content value and I'll be happy to see any of them win. Of course, we all have favourites. In Bigg Boss, things change fast. You may like someone in the beginning and by the third week, you start feeling the person is obnoxious. Or an unbearable person may not seem so bad later. The final winner is one whom people have chosen through voting. It's the public's choice.

When you just started hosting, were you nervous about stepping into Salman Khan's shoes?
I wasn't nervous. I was just excited because this is my favourite show. I have literally been a part of every season because I was totally into it as a viewer. Salman was always my favourite host. The way he hosts it and gives his own personal takes always makes for great viewing.

What's it about this show that you enjoyed - the voyeuristic format ?
It is voyeuristic. As a race, we are voyeuristic. This show is also a fascinating study of human behaviour - not just of the people inside but also of us - the voyeurs who are reacting from outside. We get involved in the drama... One day they are fighting, then they are kissing and finally, fighting again. It's an interactive show and you get drawn into it.

After you stepped in as host, you may have had people asking you about whether a lot of it is scripted...
A lot of people want to know strange things, including the fisherwoman from whom I buy fish. Somebody recently asked me, 'Karishma Tanna ka baal itna accha kaise rehta hai?' A show like this cannot be scripted. There could be triggers put in the house that may have the participants behave in a certain way. But their reactions are all spontaneous.

What did your fisherwoman ask you?
She wanted to know how they actually ate in the house and manage to stay. Of course, she gave me no discount on the fish for that! But this is a topic everyone likes. I had someone calling me from Canada to say that they did not approve of somebody's behaviour in the house and I just wanted to know from them how they got my number. This is the success of the show, that it's clearly kept people involved.

The TRPs of the show have been good. But were you anxious about it in the first week that you started?
Not at all. I have just enjoyed myself. I never take pressure about things I can't control. Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Would you ever want to be locked up inside the Bigg Boss house?
No! It's very tough. And the most difficult part is the work inside the house; the participants have to do everything by themselves. I'm sure after coming out, they will value their maids a lot more.

Trust Sambhavna Seth to spill the beans on the new woman in Rahul Mahajan’s life, Aparna Joshi on Bigg Boss 8. Things have now taken an interesting turn given his elimination, where he bids adieu to ex wife Dimpy Ganguly.

Much has been made of Rahul’s equation with his ex outside the house as well as within it. Their split made headlines as did their reunion in the BB8 house. The two had sparks flying and feuds as well, leaving everybody around them confused about their relationship status.

Moreover, fellow housemate Karishma Tanna revealed that Rahul had been pursuing her via WhatsApp and Facebook for quite sometime. Was this happening behind Dimpy’s back! The answer to that remains a mystery.

What isn’t, is the fact that he’s now dating a PYT called Aparna. Dimpy, however, won’t share that thought. She has stated that she gets jealous when people bring up the topic of Rahul’s girlfriends.

Love is all around for Mr Mahajan, but only time will tell who he will pick once Dimpy is out of the house.

Bigg Boss to organize a date for Upen-Karishma, Dimpy-Rahul

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; January 23, 2015)

Bigg Boss will organise a date for the new couple, Upen Patel and Karishma Tanna, in the house and the estranged couple Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Ganguly Mahajan. The men will be given a chance to buy a gift for their respective partners. Upen bought a ring for Karishma, while Rahul chose a sari for Dimpy. Says a source from the show, “Rahul mentioned that the sari reminded him of Dimpy's attire from their wedding.“ Apparently, Upen will leave the house immediately after the date.

Aarya Babbar seems to have found love this time around. The actor is in a relationship with Jasmine, a Ludhiana girl, for a year now and has been trying to keep it low-key.

However, a source close to the star son revealed details about the girl. “Jasmine is not from the industry. She moved to Mumbai some time back. She had even sent a stuffed toy to Aarya during his stay inside the Bigg Boss house.“

Apparently, Aarya's family has met Jasmine and blessed the couple. When asked if a wedding is on the cards, the source said, “We don't know about that, but going by the seriousness of the relationship, it may happen anytime soon.“

When contacted, Aarya refused to comment on the news.

Raj Babbar, who is enjoying his stint on the small screen with Pukaar, told us, “My prime concern while choosing TV was that I should do a role that matches my age and personality. And I'm glad I got something that suited me perfectly.“

On the home front, is it true that he is bride-hunting for son Aarya? “I think he has found love. He's introduced the girl to us and got s our acceptance. If he's ready, we will happily arrange his wedding,“ he says, and adds, “For now, he is working on a film that he wants to make.“

I am taken aback by Karishma Tanna’s behaviour-Roshni Chopra

TV actress Roshni Chopra, a close friend of Tanna, adds that the BB8 contestant must ‘really like’ Upen Patel to indulge in PDA

Krishma Tanna and Upen Patel have been painting the Bigg Boss 8 house red with their liplocks and public displays of affection. But what has really surprised people both inside and outside the house is her turnaround. Since Day One, she has claimed that she’s in a committted relationship (with restaurateur Rushabh Choksi). After Upen proposed, she has been openly displaying her love for him. They’ve even made plans to go on a world tour once they are out. We spoke to her friend, TV actress Roshni Chopra, to find out who the real Karishma is!

You have known Karishma for long. Is she the way she is being projected in the house?
Karishma is a fun-loving, chilled out girl. I know that many people think she is fake and selfish, but she is not. She is misunderstood. Initially, she must have thought that because of the place she is in, without any drama, she wouldn’t be able to sustain in the house. But over time, she has settled down. Also, she gets angry very fast and that is why she lost her temper with Gautam (Gulati) and Rahul (Mahajan). However, she also cools down fast and is not the vindictive sort. But because she says whatever is in her heart, everything gets misrepresented.

What is your take on Karishma’s growing closeness with Upen Patel?
I am really surprised. Before entering the show, she had told me that she did not want to get into any relationship in the house. But I know Upen also and he is a charming, fun guy, a ladies’ man.

Karishma and Upen have shared liplocks. Is the kind to indulge in PDA (public displays of affection)?
No, the Karishma I know is not like that. I am also surprised and taken aback by her behaviour. She must really like Upen.

Some evicted contestants like Sana Khan think that they are doing it for ratings...
Karishma is definitely not like that. If she and Upen were seeing each other outside, it wouldn’t have become such a big issue. But since the cameras are on them 24/7, it is getting exaggerated.

Initially, Karishma said that she is in a committed relationship. Reportedly, her boyfriend is Rushabh Choksi?
So, where is he? He hasn’t sent a single letter, hasn’t called or even sent a message. There have been episodes where the families and loved ones have met with or sent something to the contestants. He may be too shy to go meet her, but he hasn’t sent her anything either. If I were in the house and my husband didn’t send anything, I would have been upset!

Upen Patel to re-enter Bigg Boss house

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; January 11, 2015)

Upen Patel, who was recently evicted from Bigg Boss, will soon return to the house. Apparently, he approached the channel requesting for a second chance. Ask Upen about it and he says, “It feels great to go into the house again. Now, I will try my best to win the show.“ The once calm and composed actor showed his snappy side on the show during the last days of his stay. Is he a changed man now? “I am a very emotional person. Imagine losing your friends one after the other. Everybody reaches a breaking point. When I was nice, people called me names. When I became like one of them, they said that they prefer the previous Upen. They stepped back and stopped attacking me once I showed them that side.“

He had openly expressed his fondness for Karishma Tanna during his last days inside. Upen says, “Karishma and I supported each other. Given the situation inside the house, you grow close to a few people. Friendship is the foundation of all relationships,“ he says.

Farah Khan called me a bandar-Ajaz Khan

Ajaz Khan, speaking from Lonavala where he claims to be confined until the Bigg Boss team decides on his future, says, “The new host Farah Khan called me a bandar. Why? She accused me of pakaowing the audience because I was talking about season 7 of Bigg Boss when I was a contestant. But if Farah ma’am claims to be such a big fan of the show, why was she getting bored when I spoke about earlier episodes? She didn’t even let me speak. The whole situation was very unfair to me. If Salman was there the channel would’ve had a hard time explaining why I was expelled,” says Ajaz.

However, sources maintain there’s no way Ajaz will go back into Bigg Boss after his physical violence against fellow-contestant Ali Quli Mirza.

Ajaz cries foul against what he sees as discrimination. “They called me to increase their TRPs. The junta wants to know how and why Puneet Issar, Sonali Raut and Pritam resorted to violence but were not expelled.”

Ajaz claims, “Quli kept provoking me all through the day. He raised his hands on me first. He kept calling me ‘naqli Shah Rukh’ etc. All this was not shown during telecast. If anything, both of us should have been expelled.”

Though Ajaz claims the Bigg Boss team has kept him confined in Lonavala, sources claim Ajaz has already left for Mumbai from Lonavala.

Gautam Gulati: The almost-winner of Bigg Boss 8?

Last week, during Bigg Boss 8 Finale Ka Twist before Farah Khan took over hosting duties, Salman Khan all but declared Gautam Gulati as the winner of the show. If the show hadn’t been extended, he would’ve definitely walked home with the trophy. According to the ranking, Ali Quli Mirza was fifth, Dimpy Mahajan was fourth, Karishma Tanna came third, Pritam was second and Gautam was first! Sources say that Gautam led by a huge margin. For instance, if he had 50 votes, Pritam who ranked second had only 11 votes. What makes Gauti, as he is fondly called, a winner? We spoke to his brother Mohit to decode Gauti’s popularity.

Fan base
To begin with, Gautam has a huge fan following across ages. Says Mohit, “I have kids coming up to me and asking about the jackets and shoes Gautam wears in the show. They are curious to know where he has bought it from. And of course, his body. They want to know how he has built his physique and want to emulate it.” In Delhi, where Gautam’s family is based, kids celebrated his birthday and posted pictures on social networks. Mohit says that it was after the We Love Gauti task that his following among kids increased multifold.

Girls love Gauti
Not just kids, even girls are crazy about the hot dude. So much so, since they do not have access to Gautam, they’ve been sending marriage proposals for him via Mohit! “Whenever I go to clubs, I have girls coming up and clicking pictures with me because I look like Gautam and tell me they want to marry my brother,” he says.

All-rounder
Bigg Boss always looks for entertainers. And Gautam, according to Mohit, has proved to be one in every way. “He started out as a villain and became a hero. He even provided the romantic angle (with Diandra Soares). He has haters, but the number of people who love him are overwhelming,” reckons Mohit. In fact, Gautam has trended thrice on Twitter and emerged as the most popular contestant of the show in a survey conducted by Ormax Media. Mohit goes on to say that every time Gautam was nominated, Salman would first mention that Gauti is saved and then move on to others. “That shows how popular he is,” points out Mohit.

Wanna go home!
Talking about the extension to the reality show, Mohit says it’s unfair to the contestants who have been in the house for over two months. “They have already been under a lot of stress. When I went to meet Gautam in the house, he was feeling low and told me ‘Mujhe ghar jaana hai, I don’t want the money’. When I told him, ‘You will come home, but with the trophy’, he cheered up,” says Mohit. If Gautam does win, he’ll be the first male winner since Vindoo.

I would want Karishma Tanna to win Bigg Boss 8-Upen Patel

Seema Sinha (BOMBAY TIMES; January 4, 2015)

Model-turned actor Upen Patel, who made an exit from the Bigg Boss house, went straight to meet his good friend Aarya Babbar post eviction. “I will stay in touch with all the contestants. I have made only friends, no enemies. All the female contestants loved me. For 10 weeks at a stretch, I was never nominated and I believe everybody in the house - including Preetam, Ajaz, Dimpy, Ali - were saddened when I left."

Talking about his eviction, he said, “It was little different as it happened mid-week and that too, very late at night. Suddenly there was an announcement from Big Boss and we jumped into the coffins specially created for each of us. None of us knew what was about to follow. After some time my coffin was moved out of the house for me to realise that I was evicted. It was really surprising because I was hoping to come within top five as I thought that people liked me.“

So, who according to him has a chance to win? “I would definitely want my good friend Karishma Tanna to win. And there isn't any contestant who I want to lose because they are all deserving. They have managed to spend 15 weeks in the house which itself is a great achievement. Each one of them played a character. Everyday there was a new hero and a new villain.“

I'll ask Rahul Mahajan about the massage he gave Payal Rohatgi-Farah Khan

I want punches, fights and love
Farah Khan is gearing up to host a popular reality TV show, adds that her next is a 'small, Rs 50-crore film' starring Shah Rukh Khan
Roshmilla Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 3, 2015)

It's a 'Happy New Year' for Farah Khan again. No, it's not time for "action" yet. She has no idea when her next project, "a small, Rs 50 crore film" will start. "I don't have a script yet, I'm going to enjoy myself for a month or two, then the idea will come to me," she says.

Any chance that she will make this one with another Khan? Salman maybe? "No, it'll star Shah Rukh. We've been discussing it for some time now. I don't see a film with Salman happening in the near future," Farah asserts.

However, she has accepted the baton from Salman to host a new series of her favourite reality show. Starting Sunday, Bigg Boss Halla Bol will pit the five champions of Season 8 against five challengers from the past, with a grand finale on January 31.

A self-confessed fan of the show, Farah insists that the new concept is her brainchild. She argues that except for Urvashi Dholakia and Gauahar Khan, many of the winners were too goody goody for her liking. Farah says, "It was the Rakhi Sawants, Sambhavana Seths, Dolly Bindras, Pooja Mishras, Mahek Chahals and Rahul Mahajans who gave the show its masala. I've always wondered what it would be like to watch Dolly and Rakhi in the house together," says Farah who is looking forward to having her old favourites, like Rahul Mahajan back. "He'd have won, had he not run out of the house at midnight. I'll ask him about the massage he gave Payal Rohatgi," she deadpans.

She has vivid memories of Dolly's fights, Sambhavana pouring water on Raja Chaudhury's bed, Vindoo "crying more than her triplets did when they were one" but doesn't remember the controversial Kamaal R Khan.

She has hosted many reality shows but this one is different as the repartee will come from how the contestants behave during the week. "I want punches, fights and love," she says, admitting she could spend one night in the house but beyond that, sharing a toilet or a bed with someone else is unthinkable.

The most disconcerting thing to happen to Farah so far was when she heard last year that a gangster had threatened to kill Shah Rukh, Mahesh Bhatt and her. "Now, I'm worried about Salman's crazy fans," she laughs.

She is taking over from the actor for a month and says it's like "going to Disneyland". But Farah insists she's only doing it as Salman is "unavailable", adding that Bigg Boss is synonymous with him, like KBC and Amitabh Bachchan.

"Mr Bachchan (Amitabh) was very good and the season he hosted had an interesting mix of contestants. But his personality is such that they were intimidated by him," she reasons. "They are more open with Salman. He's so involved, takes things personally and his opinions-good, bad, ugly and some which I don't agree with-are his own. With him it's all about being human, no pun intended, and not about being Salman Khan, the star. He says what he feels and that works for me as a viewer."

Who's she betting on this season? "I was all for Gautam Gulati who has that 'hero' quality, but now that I''m the host, I have to be impartial," says Farah who is looking forward to enjoying the perks of two years of hard work while hubby Shirish Kunder rolls with his next film.

"I'll spend more time with my family and clean my cupboard," she concludes.

Salman Khan to skip Bigg Boss 8 on his bday; Kapil Sharma to step in?

Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; December 25, 2014)

Salman Khan will be missing from the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 8 this Saturday. Reason: It’s his birthday on December 27 and for the first time across all the seasons that Salman is hosting the reality show, he will not be shooting for an episode. Well, Bigg Boss has given him a day off to celebrate his special day with close friends and family. Consequently, the nomination and eviction episode will be pushed by a day and will be shot over Sunday and Monday. The Saturday episode will see Kapil Sharma and Co taking over Bigg Boss. Kapil along with Gutthi, Palak and Dadi will be regaling the inmates with their comedy. In fact, from 9-11 pm the stand-up comedian and his team will endeavour to entertain the viewers too.

Salman, who will be bringing in his 49th birthday, will in all probability be celebrating at his farmhouse in Panvel. In fact, the superstar will not be in Mumbai until after the New Year as he is juggling the shoot of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bigg Boss.
