I want to be a mother and create my family; why else would I freeze my eggs?-Tanishaa Mukerji

Akash Wadhwa (BOMBAY TIMES; June 10, 2024)
In the city for professional reasons, actress Tanishaa Mukerji said she was in love with Lucknow and its “relaxed” vibes. Tanishaa, who recently participated in the dance reality Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, shared about the dancing journey, her mom Tanuja, her “Tom & Jerry” relationship with sis Kajol, and more...
Excerpts...
How was your visit to Lucknow?
I have been to Lucknow before too. I shot for a film titled Rosy in Lucknow during the pandemic which was supposed to be Palak Tiwari’s debut film. I was in Lucknow then for quite a lot of days. I love the people of Lucknow. There is not only warmth in them but also a certain laidback calmness, I mean the city has a very relaxed energy. I wish today more cities could become like that as there is a lot of anxiousness in other cities. I hope this never changes. And yes, people here are also very chalaak. When I had come here at that time and gone for some chikan shopping, being a celebrity, they had charged me an exorbitant amount. Mera khoob bakra bana tha uss time since I didn’t know much about the fabric and the prices.
You were recently a part of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Tell us about the experience.
In Jhalak... I did a lot of lifts and tricks. I wasn’t quite athletic during my childhood. I was a very ladylike child. All the opposite stuff was done by Kajol.
So coming back to Jhalak..., when I first went for the rehearsals, I couldn’t rehearse for more than four hours. My whole body was in pain and I couldn’t sleep. Then later, I also did a lot of Iyengar Yoga which helped me in my journey on the show. I said yes to the show as I wanted to break certain barriers in my life. When I first did Bigg Boss I was told by Salman (Khan) that isko toh yahan aane ki zaroorat nahi hai. That’s not true. We all have that need of money and identity. I went as a kid to Bigg Boss and came back as a grownup. I was always in a very protective environment and wanted to learn to deal with different kinds of people.
Your mom, Tanuja, has been keeping unwell of late. Not being married and staying with your mom, who is aging, does it make you insecure?
Mom is amazing now! But yes, of course, it makes me insecure. I was inside the Bigg Boss house when she got this disease called diverticulitis. But now it is over after her operation in 2018. But there have been other issues because of age. In fact, when I was doing an act for my dad on Jhalak..., my mom was in the hospital. It was the worst feeling. I have lost my dad and that is the reason why I am more insecure about my mom. As far as dealing with it is concerned, my spiritual side helps me, especially my Buddhist chants. Plus, my mom has always taught me to live in the moment and not worry about the future. I enjoy every moment with her - partying, even the drama and the fighting.
Talking about fights, there is a video online where Kajol and you are having an argument and your mom is trying to calm you both...
Firstly, the Durga Puja’s our private affair and we are like a family in that space. Kajol and I have been like Tom and Jerry ever since we were kids. My dad used to call us that where I was Jerry and she was Tom. Over the years, Kajol and I are like mature Tom and Jerry (laughs) But on a serious note, Kajol is like a mother figure to me. Even Ajay (Devgn) is like a father figure to me, who has taught me to be considerate and kind to everyone while my sis has taught me to be strong and stand up for the people we love. It takes a village to raise a child and I had a beautiful village.
You have always expressed the need to find the right partner and you have frozen your eggs to be a mother. Do you still want to be a wife and mother or are you happy being single?
Yes, it is important for me to get married! It is a different kind of evolution with a partner as it teaches you a lot of tolerance. I see such a beautiful relationship between my sisters, their husbands, and their children; why would somebody not want that? And I still also want to be a mother and create my family, why else would I freeze my eggs?
People should know that I am not a bad person, I am misunderstood-Armaan Kohli

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; December 11, 2018)
He has been controversy’s favourite child ever since he participated in the reality show Bigg Boss a few years ago. Known mostly for his anger issues, Armaan Kohli has been in the news often for the wrong reasons. Six months after his partner, stylist Neeru Randhawa, accused him of assaulting her and more recently, for not paying her compensation on time, Armaan is now striving to clear his image. In a no-holdsbarred chat with BT, he tells us his side of the story. Excerpts…
How did you meet Neeru Randhawa?
Neeru and I met four-and-a-half years ago at an event in Dubai. We hit it off really well and became friends. I invited her to Mumbai and she stayed at my home for almost four years, as she had nowhere else to stay. Whoever she has met or knows in the city is through me. We started dating eventually and we were in a relationship for three-and-a-half years. She lodged a complaint against you for assault and demanded compensation for damage and loss of work …
There was never any work. So, what loss of work is she talking about? Whatever work she got was because of me. In fact, I let her design a suit for me during Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), which got rejected. Being an NRI, she can’t work here without a work permit and make money without paying taxes.
So, what went wrong in the relationship?
Everything was perfect till I asked her about the rent that came from my properties, which she was collecting. My only fault was that I didn’t ask her to give me the money immediately, as I trusted her. She has mentioned that the rent money was just Rs 60,000. But in reality, it was Rs 22 lakh. She threw a fit every time I asked her about it, and I realised that she was duping me. The cheques would come, but the cash would disappear as people were transferring it into her account. The tiff started over money. She could have talked about it, but she started fighting with me instead. My mother came out hearing her shout and she started fighting with her, too. My mother retaliated and said, ‘This is my house and not yours. You get out of this house. Which woman stays in a house for three years without being married?’ She charged towards my mother. That was the first time I saw my mom’s hands shiver. She suffers from Alzheimer’s and was scared. Honest to God, I caught Neeru by her arm and pulled her away from my mother on impulse. She toppled and hit her head. She said that I caught her by her hair and banged her head on the ground. How can that be? If I had done that, she would have hurt her mouth and nose. It was a fall injury and not because of a beating. If I had beaten her up, why didn’t it show on her? If I have beaten you up so badly and hurt your dignity, what were you doing with a man like me for four years? After she accidentally hurt herself, she said, ‘Now, I will show you, Armaan Kohli, who I am. My name is Neeru Randhawa and I will f#ck you. I will show you what I can do to you.’ It’s hurtful that somebody, whom my family welcomed as a daughter, put me behind bars.
Were you planning to settle down with her?
I had planned to marry her in a small ceremony a year ago. Thank God I didn’t, or else both of us would have been behind bars! Apparently, she was already married while she was with me and I had no clue about it. She was planning a second marriage without being divorced! I am in touch with that guy’s family as well. A friend’s relative recognised her and said that she had attended her wedding around five years ago and that her name is not Neeru. Apparently, her divorce came through only six months ago. So, she was with me for three-and-ahalf years, talking about marriage and making babies while she was already married to someone and was in touch with him.
Neeru has again dragged you to court for not paying her Rs 50 lakh as promised...
A family friend got involved in the matter and I agreed to put an end to the whole thing by paying Neeru Rs 50 lakh. I paid her the amount three days after she filed the FIR and before I was arrested. While I was expecting the issue to be resolved, she didn’t withdraw the case and made sure that I was put behind bars. In fact, she demanded Rs 50 lakh more from me while I was in jail to withdraw the case. I didn’t realise that it was her game plan. She hasn’t mentioned the Rs 50 lakh that I had already paid her. I have now decided to pursue this case and I am sure that the truth will be out soon. I have filed a case of extortion and cheating against her.
During these three years, did you ever hit her?
Never. In today’s day and age, which woman tolerates such things? If I had done it, why didn’t she come out earlier?
Another FIR has been lodged against you on December 2 by fashion designer Nadia Hayat, accusing you of verbally abusing her...
Nadia is like family. She met a person, who handles my legal work, at a party in my house. They struck a business deal and one day, she called me, saying he had failed to pay her back as promised. No transaction happened in front of me and she didn’t consult me either. She has charged me with verbal abuse and the other person of threatening and blackmailing her. I just scolded her as an elder for not checking with me before striking any deal. How am I responsible for something that happened behind my back?
Why do you have an image as someone who is physically violent towards women?
If any woman claims that I have beaten her up, why didn’t she stand up earlier? The police and law have always been around. I am in touch with my exes. Tell me, why would they be in touch with me? I am boisterous. People have seen me get angry on Bigg Boss, but they have also seen me stay calm and even have fun. Break-ups don’t happen on a good note. They are always ugly. It’s never one-sided, but there is no raising hand in this. It could be a verbal argument. I am a no-nonsense man, I don’t give or take nonsense.
Do you have temper issues?
I used to have temper issues, but I have tamed down a lot with age. There is nobody in the world who can say that Armaan fought for his own problems, I have always fought for others. Everybody has temper issues. Some people control it while some openly talk about it. I openly admit it and thus, become the bad one. Everybody should have aggression, but one needs to channelise it in a positive way. I am doing it now, I don’t know if it’s late, but then it’s never too late.
There is a perception that your temper issues are responsible for your career not taking off the way it could have...
Everything that’s written or spoken about me is not correct. I hope the media gives somebody a chance to speak before they write about him. I have been blamed for something that I have not done. The six months have been difficult, but it made me stronger. I ran around trying to clear my image. If I am wrong, why would I do that? I just regret choosing wrong people. My priority in 2019 will be to choose the right kind of people and not have any negativity around. It’s not that I have not been getting acting offers. I am not taking up offers as they don’t excite me. I don’t need to work to feed myself. I have rejected many films. But now, I am taking up work in South. I am grateful to Salman (Khan) bhai. He called me when I was sitting at home doing nothing and told me to be ready to meet Sooraj Barjatya. I am happy I did a Salman Khan film. During my heydays, unfortunately, some bad films happened. I don’t blame anyone but myself for my career. Blame it on my bad judgement or stupidity. However, I have no regrets. Today, I just want ki naam achha ho jaaye... I have lost two projects because of the case.
What are your future plans?
2018 has taken quite a toll on me, but it has made me stronger than I was. I hope 2019 is good for me. I will make sure that I don’t get involved in any mess. It’s going to be my work year. All these issues have taught me a lesson in life – to be more careful of what I step into. I will ensure that nothing tarnishes my image or my family’s name from now on. People should know that I am not a bad person, I am misunderstood.
Any plans of settling down?
If I get the right girl, I want to settle down. I wanted to settle down last year. Now, I am waiting for someone who is understanding and respects old people; who knows how to handle a house and a man. Somebody who won’t use, abuse or disrespect me or my family. I am sure someone right is there in this world for me. At the moment, there is nobody in my life. If I am in a relationship, I will talk about it.

People said don’t do Rocket Singh, if you are not playing Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest-Gauahar Khan

As she launches her own fashion line, Gauhar Khan talks to us about the art of reinventing herself
Aastha Atray Banan (MID-DAY; March 25, 2018)
It's 2.30 pm in the afternoon and though actress Gauhar Khan says she is feeling under the weather, she looks fresh and excited. We are sitting at her office in Lokhandwala, where sister Nigaar, sitting nearby on a computer, is busy sending emails out. It’s been a busy six months for Khan who just came out with a fashion line of her own. On the wall behind the sofa, hangs a sign that screams, Gauhargeous, which is the name of the collection as well. “It’s been a mad six months, so I guess the excitement has got to me. But I clearly remember that in November 2016, I was sitting at a coffee shop alone and I wrote a note to myself and in that I said, I will start a fashion line, and well, here I am.”
We all know Khan through various avenues. She showed us she could dance in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa; she wowed us with nuanced performances in movies like Rocket Singh and Begum Jaan; she showed us she could be calm and graceful under pressure in Bigg Boss 7, could do musicals with her stint on Zangoora — the Gypsy Prince; and could also be glamorous and Kardashianlike in her reality TV show, The Khan Sisters. In an industry that could chew you up and spit you out, she has managed to cut clutter. “It’s a hard place to be. People said don’t do Bigg Boss, that’s what happens when people have nothing else to do; people said don’t do Rocket Singh, if you are not playing Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest; or, don’t shift to Gurgaon for Zangoora... I have realised you can only do what you can do. You can’t take anyone else’s path, you can’t do what other people think is right. So I decided, I am going to create my own path because that’s the only way I can be happy.”
Ask her the often-asked question, if she feels that she hasn’t got her due as an actress, and she is sorted in her reply. “People call and say ‘Gauhar, here is a role, and we want someone like you for it’. I am okay with not dancing around trees, because people like Vidya Balan and director Srijit Mukherji want me for specific roles, like the one in Begum Jaan. It’s a space I have made for myself.”
As we come back to the fashion line at hand, and talk fashion influences, Khan says that she owes her “style” to her mother. “We were always dressed by her, and dare we wear just anything. There were bows, buttons and clips to match every outfit.” Later, it was Rekha who shaped her aesthetic. “I love movies like Khoobsurat and Jhoothi and was taken in by her style — those plaits and polka-dot dresses. I gave her an award last year, and she actually knew who I was, and called me a diva. I cried on stage.”
In a market that is now flooded with celeb clothing lines, what Khan doesn’t want is a tie up with a retail outlet. Instead, she wants to eventually focus on having a store of her own. The designs, which follow her own clean, classy aesthetic, are a mix of basics and separates; only 23 pieces for now. “We may have limited pieces but we have thought of dressing curvy girls, as well as slender ones. For example, we were just talking about having a jersey dress, and we realised it won’t look good on every shape, so we said we will make it a loose-fitting one instead of a tight one.”
To end, we ask her who would she say is the Gauhargeous girl, and she laughs, “Good question! It’s someone who knows that she can express her mind through her clothes. She knows exactly who she is, and wants to show that off.”
Few can say that they made their acting debut with Salman Khan-Shrashti Maheshwari

Having featured alongside Jallad in Khan-hosted Bigg Boss, Shrashti Maheshwari gears up for her Bollywood debut
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; February 19, 2018)
Salman Khan’s Pari from Bigg Boss is Bollywood-bound. Telly actor Shrashti Maheshwari, who’d turn up on the set of the reality show along with the now-famous Jallad (Chintan Gangar), is set to make her debut with Shaadi Teri Bajayenge Hum Band. The actor, who featured in season seven (2013) of the controversial reality show, went missing after the season.
Keen on making a mark in Bollywood, Maheshwari departed to make time for auditions instead. Eventually, she bagged Gurpreet Sondh’s directorial venture, which releases next month. The film also stars Mastram (2014) actor Rahul Bagga and Rajpal Yadav. “It is a romcom. We shot for it in Delhi,” she says.
In 2013, she along with Jallad, assited Khan during the episodes he’d host over the weekend. She’d appeared for a segment called Sanduk Ka Vaar, where the star would pull out specific props from a box to chide the housemates. While Jallad became a recurrent face in the seasons that followed, Pari went missing.
But Maheshwari is glad that Khan kept her alive with his references. “It was kind of Salman sir to repeatedly remember me. He would often say, ‘Pari kidhar hai, kidhar hai Pari?’ I am grateful to him that he kept reminding the audience about my character.”
Working with Khan on the show, she says, was a “blast”. “He would crack jokes with the unit. There was never a dull moment with him. We would be in splits whenever he was around.”
Five years after her stint on Bigg Boss, Maheshwari remembers the show with fondness. “Bigg Boss was my first assignment. Although I had a small appearance, sharing the stage with Salman sir was an experience I cherished. Few can say that they made their acting debut with him. I left my hometown, Bareilly, to pursue my dream of acting. Now I hope to reach new heights,” says Maheshwari.
The actor has TV shows like Big Fame Star (2013) , Do Dil Bandhey Ek Dori Se (2013), The Buddy Project and Thapki Pyaar Ki (2015), among others, to her credit. A foray into Bollywood doesn’t imply that she intends on leaving her career in television behind her. “I hope to strike a balance between the two,” she signs off.
I'd rather be an A-lister on TV than take up erotic films-Kushal Tandon

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; January 3, 2017)
Kushal Tandon has been in
the news as much for his relationships as his work. The actor, who made
headlines for his acrimonious breakup with Bigg Boss co-contestant
Gauahar Khan, has decided to solely focus on work for the time being.
And, it's not because he has become cynical about matters of the heart. “I will wait for the right person, and don't want to get married at least for another three years. Bachelorhood is as nice as being in love. However, my definition of love hasn't changed - it has to be unconditional,“ he says.
For now, Kushal is enjoying the positive feedback for his show, Beyhadh. “I would rather be an A-lister on TV than take up erotic films. I don't want to do films just for the heck of entering Bollywood,“ he states.
While he is happily single in real life, the actor is enjoying being wooed by two women - Jennifer Winget and Aneri Vajani - on the screen. “It's fantastic, even if it's just for those 12 hours of shoot,“ he says, adding, “We complement each other. Nobody is dating anybody (laughs!).“
Recently, much was written about his proximity to Ankita Lokhande. So, what's with him being the knight in shining armour for heart-broken ladies? Kushal says, “I am not in touch with Ankita; I have been too busy with my work. But I guess they (exes Ankita and Sushant Singh Rajput) are in happy zones. As far as Jennifer (she divorced Karan Singh Grover, who then married Bipasha Basu) is concerned, she has moved on in life. She is always smiling.“
His only regret, he says, was being a part of Bigg Boss 7, where he met and fell in love with Gauahar. “I realised that I was childish and straightforward, I always stood for the right. That house is for calculative people. The show puts you too much out in the open -people start judging you and I don't like it.“
Though he had an unpleasant break-up with Gauahar, the two now seem to have mended bridges. “I agree that our relationship ended abruptly, but I am cordial with her just like I am with all my exes,“ he signs off.

I am not an A-list actor, but I am successful-Gauahar Khan

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; August 2, 2016)
Years of perseverance and
hard work have finally borne fruit for modelturned-actress Gauahar Khan.
Her first 'quintessential lead role' (in her own words) seems to have
righted all the umpteen rejections that she faced during her journey
from being an A-list model to an actor. Here is Gauahar unplugged on
kissing Rajeev Khandelwal in the upcoming film Fever, to her phirang
co-stars, the slapgate controversy and her ex.
You are finally playing the lead role. It was long overdue...
Ah, finally it has come to me and I'm excited about it. For someone with an absolutely non-filmi background, fortunately, I have done good films, and known to be a good actor. I know that significant projects will come to me. But when I say 'lead role', it means I will get to perform and do all that a heroine is expected to do. I feel my time has finally come. My director Rajeev Jhaveri (RJ) told me, 'Gauahar, Rajeev (Khandelwal) is my hero and you are my protagonist'. He gives that much weightage to my character in the film. I play Kavya Chaudhary, who is all heart.
You seem kicked about the role.
In this film, I get to be close to what I look like in real. RJ wanted something that would stand out for Kavya. I'm wearing a Monroe (a stick-on on the upper lip) in the film. No one's ever worn it. I hope to make a style statement with this film. For a particular swimming scene, I made sure I was in the best shape while wearing a bikini. Besides weight training, I was particular about what I ate during those three months and the results showed. I didn't take the fact lightly that I had got the lead role and worked hard towards it.
The film has three heroines. Did you worry about your track?
Not at all. There was no insecurity because it was clear that I was the lead of the film. In fact, it works great because there are three hot girls in the thriller. It is so amazing to interact with people from different parts of the world. When I saw Caterina Murino, I was like, 'Oh my god, she is the Bond girl'. She is lovely, cute and adorable. Gemma Atkinson is the most amazing and down-to-earth person. I didn't even know she was such a huge name. We worked out together. I could not help but be amazed at her dedication. Even though she was emoting in Hindi, which is not her language, her emotions and expressions were spot on. I was in awe of her and learnt a great deal from her. As an actor, no matter what language you are speaking, your intention has to be right. Today, if I know I have performed badly, I feel like killing myself.
The film has many intimate scenes. How comfortable were you doing that?
I have certain boundaries and won't do something I'm not comfortable with. When my director narrated the script to me, he didn't exclude the intimate scene. If you see a kiss and a girl removing her top, don't mistake the film for an erotic thriller. Many actors are uncomfortable kissing on screen, but Rajeev and I share the sweetest kiss, and the chemistry in it is believable. The director just told us that he wanted it to look real and not like two people forcefully touching their lips. It is my favourite scene of the film; it's cute.
The killing of Qandeel Balouch shook the world. You were also slapped by a fanatic while hosting a reality show. What are your views about violence against women?
It's not happening just across the border but everywhere. I call it jahalat (lack of knowledge) and barbaric. In fact, the first word of Quran is Iqra, which means read, gain knowledge and educate yourself. Everyone has a right to disagree, but you can't take anyone's life. It is God who gave life and it is He alone who will deem what is right. People come, do things and walk away scot-free. There needs to be stricter rules for offences like these. I still fear for my safety. After the incident that happened with me, I always have a security officer with me. There was a time when I would get into the crowd and click pictures with fans, but now I am always alert and aware.
How do you look at your journey from modelling to playing the lead in a film?
I would probably cry if I talk about it. I was 18 and an A-list model. I quit modelling to pursue an acting course. Someone told me that I didn't have the face for films but I gathered the strength and told him 'Watch me!' I have had a million people tell me that I wouldn't make it. I used to be disheartened and was an unhappy person throughout my modelling days. I would constantly compare myself to others and think what she has that I don't. But then, I read a few books and realised that my thought process was wrong. I changed my mindset and everything worked for me. I realised that I have to live my life my way and make it happen. The most successful people are also the most hated. It's because people are giving them so much energy that they are going to be as successful as they want. I thank every single day for what I have.
You made some interesting choice of films at the start of your career starting with Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.
Everybody warned me against taking up Rocket Singh and then Bigg Boss, but I have always followed my instinct. I needed those stepping stones. I know people who started off as models around the same time as I did and are superstars right now. I may not be an A-list actor, but I have everything that you would describe as success - I am working with great people and good banners, doing performance-oriented roles and have fans who love me to death. Mind you, I have not had a single off day in the last three years. My journey is probably not the ideal one but it's definitely crazy if you compare it to anyone else's. However for me, it is a winning story. I don't owe my career to anyone, which is a huge achievement.
You are known more for your dancing skills. Do you feel bad that it overpowers the actress in you?
I started my journey in this industry as a dancer when I participated in a dance reality show. It is a part of me and can't be taken away. I was offered Rocket Singh in the first week of the reality show itself. It's because of this talent of mine that I got to perform a dance sequence in a Hollywood film and work with Saroj Khan ji. It was like living a dream. I don't have any problems if I am known for my forte in dancing, as long as I can find a balance. Hopefully, people will appreciate my acting in Fever as I am not dancing in it. They should feel that dance nahi tha, par chhaa gayi.
GAUAHAR ON HER EX-FACTOR
You reacted to a comment by your ex (Kushal Tandon) about not being in touch with you...
I have always been dignified and have known where to draw the line. It was an amazing one-and-a-half-year of relationship with him and there is no bitterness from my side. First of all, I never mentioned his name, the media made those assumptions. If you are quoting me in connection with someone else, it's your onus and not mine. There are two golden words called 'no comments' and I use them very well. So, no comments. I wish everyone, who has been a part of my journey, well.
ON MARRIAGE PLANS
I have been single since two years. I would have loved to be married a few years ago, but I don't know if it's going to happen anytime soon. I hear of so many separations of late. Actually, it's just about meeting the right person.
You are finally playing the lead role. It was long overdue...
Ah, finally it has come to me and I'm excited about it. For someone with an absolutely non-filmi background, fortunately, I have done good films, and known to be a good actor.
I am blessed to have worked with 2 superstars-Salman Khan & Sooraj Barjatya - Armaan Kohli

Armaan Kohli acquired cult
status as the bad boy of Bigg Boss. Two years after his exit from the
reality show, he will be seen as the suave villain in Sooraj Barjatya's
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (PRDP) that releases on November 12. Here is Armaan
unplugged:
Bigg Boss to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, what an incredible journey.
Bigg Boss was a journey of a lifetime. Actually they wanted me from the third season itself. I refused the third, fourth, fifth and sixth season of the show because it is very difficult to live in that kind of an atmosphere. However, when Salman bhai said that I had to go in for the seventh season, I went there without a word. I cannot refuse Salman bhai. At first, I thought I would be there for just a couple of weeks. I seriously didn't think that I would survive for 15 weeks. We (Tanishaa Mukerji and I) became the heart of the show and for the first time Salman bhai admitted that the TRPs were higher during the week than on the weekends, when he appears as the host. This show runs because of Salman bhai. Even this current season, the weekend TRPs of Bigg Boss are high because Salman bhai is there. I think if any other host comes on the show, it is not going to work.
How did you land PRDP?
Salman bhai called one day and said you have to go to ND Studio and meet Sooraj Barjatya. So I did the needful. I thought he would want to do a look test or something. Soorajji heard my voice, saw my personality and offered me the role of Chirag. I began work in March this year and it has been an amazing journey. There is nothing better that I could have asked for my comeback as a bad boy; a villain. It is not the Shakti Kapoor kind of bad boy. It is the heroic, suave, white-collared bad boy. I'm blessed to have worked with two superstars - Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. What more could I have really wished for?
What does it mean to be a bad boy in a Sooraj Barjatya film, which is all about good values?
I think it is the first time that Sooraj is portraying a villain as a villain. Generally, it is destiny that plays a spoilsport in his films. He doesn't really have scope for a villain. However, this time around there is a clear-cut, evil man who is basically selfish. Being this baddie came pretty naturally to me (laughs). I hope everyone loves it because I have worked very hard for it. Soorajji and Salman bhai were happy, so I am happy. I hope and pray that PRDP hits the bullseye.
One observes that at home, you are absolutely the good son.
I'm a good son. I like playing baddie characters but in real life, I'm not a baddie. What people saw of me in the Bigg Boss house was obviously not the real me. When I was calm, they would ask me to pipe up and when I piped up, they would ask me to take my temper a few notches down. From the first day itself, I had to prove a point so that the others did not sit on my head. Only if someone really provoked me did I react. All the people inside the house were against me. There were times when I would sit alone and eat a meal. I was in everyone's bad books. I guess that is why they kept me in the house. They didn't want the 'fun' to end. It is an experience I can never forget. However, I don't think I can do it again. It has actually changed a lot for me. They asked me to go in as the celebrity in the last season, but I refused. Now I think before I speak. Bigg Boss also saw a five-fold increase in my fan following. I had fans from Australia to Finland who sent me messages saying that they hadn't missed a single episode for as long as I was there. I sincerely hope my fan following favours me for PRDP as well.
Are you scared of your own temper?
Frankly, I don't have as bad a temper as people make it out to seem. I'm generally the heart of the party. You should ask my close friends who will tell you that I'm the one who is laughing, partying and taking care of people. I'm the guy who lives to the fullest. I'm gregarious, generous and let trivial issues just go past. I'm not the sort who makes issues over tissues. But people have the impression that I am hot-headed and I haven't bothered to correct that. Frankly, how does it matter? Those who know me well, know that it's not true. For the rest, kya farak padta hai?
You also have the reputation of being a flirt.
I'm not the flirtatious type. I don't have the inclination to try and impress anyone. If you had asked me this question 15 years ago, I may have said yes because then I would run around like a brat, trying to impress people. Now, I have neither the inclination nor the frame of mind. Age has caught up with me. I'm much calmer and happier than I used to be. And certainly not a flirt.
Are you ready for marriage?
Yes, I am. I have always wanted to marry just once. I don't want to make a wrong choice because I don't want to go through the misery of divorce. I also don't want to put a girl through any hardship. Having said that, I'm mentally conditioned to marrying, sleeping and waking up with that one person all my life.
How is your career poised?
All major career decisions or choices will follow post PRDP. I have been signed by Sajid bhai (Nadiadwala) for two films. He will announce them when he wishes to. I also want to revive my home banner. I'm in talks with some corporation production house for a tie-up. My father, Rajkumar Kohli (maker of blockbusters like Nagin, Jaani Dushman and Raaj Tilak) will oversee things from the office. The plan is to sign outside directors according to the genre of the films. If PRDP does well and gets me noticed, God willing, the sky should be the limit.
Heard you have started your own clothes line?
Yes, my partner Neeru Randhawa and I have started a clothes and accessories line called AK (Armaan Kohli). The blazer I was wearing earlier is from that line. We have big plans that will unfold shortly.
You said your father was your best friend. Is this really true?
My parents (Raj and Nishi) are my 4 am friends. I love them more than my own life. If I had a way, I would give them all the years that I have. Each day, I pray for their good health. I can wake them up or call them 24x7 to tell them what is going on. Whether I'm happy, sad, emotional or crying, they are the only two people I go to. And they are there for me, no questions asked. I'm blessed to be the son of Nishi and Rajkumar Kohli. If I had my way, I would choose them as parents again and again. For me, there is nothing beyond family.

When I write my book, Bigg Boss will be take up the largest chapter-Tanishaa Mukerji

The couldn't-care-a-damn actress readies for a second round onstage
Reema Gehi (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 24, 2015)
Dressed in a shocking pink number, Tanishaa Mukerji breezes in with her entourage into her Santacruz office, while her lhasas, King Leonidas and Princess Leia, potter around. The 34-year-old ("but refuse to age beyond 30") seems to be in the skin of the character she will play in the upcoming play, The Jury.
Directed by Divya Palat, it sees Mukerji essay the role of an actress. "It's a funny take on what justice would be like if we had a jury system in India," she says. "It's entertaining, I am having a ball."
The production, which opens on August 7 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, is her second play with Palat. Two years ago, Mukerji made her stage debut with The Verdict. "It was scary. My sister and mother thought I was mad," she says of successful actress Kajol and veteran performer Tanuja. "They couldn't believe I could remember my dialogues onstage."
Tanuja acted in a Marathi play years ago and was troubled by her failing memory. "But I was like a vampire feeding off the audience response... loving the drama," she grins.
Life between the two plays has, however, been quite a ride. Soon after the shows wrapped up, Mukerji signed up for the seventh edition of Bigg Boss, a television reality show that not only brought her more fame ("10, 000 more followers on Twitter," she chuckles), but also resulted in a rather public relationship with co-contestant Armaan Kohli. "My next relationship will be under constant glare, too. It's okay. Didn't it make great television viewing, didn't we entertain you all?" she chides.
Reports circulating in press suggested that Mukerji's family wasn't too pleased with her decision, but she remains unperturbed. "Let people gossip, if that's what makes them happy. I don't care."
Mukerji steers clear of regrets. "In fact," she says, "when I write my book, Bigg Boss will be take up the largest chapter. I am not about to not do what I want to because someone decides to talk about it."
Sharing her feisty mother's chutzpah, Mukerji wishes she was as forthright as her. Although, she says, "Tomorrow I may do something that will blow your socks off, and you'll wonder, what's the next controversy coming from her? I enjoy the rollercoaster ride. I want it."
Having forayed into Bollywood at 23 in the Pawan Kaul-directed horror thriller, Sssshhh..., she was known as 'Kajol's sister' and 'Tanuja's daughter'. Mukerji's film trajectory hit speed bumps before she settled with theatre. "I couldn't debut at 16 because I looked like a kid. Besides, I wanted to study abroad, and Kads wanted me to have that opportunity," she says. "Although acting was on my mind, I never considered films a career. It was enjoyment. It's the luxury I had that my sister didn't." Kajol debuted with Bekhudi in 1992 at18.
However, Mukerji wasn't free from the weight of expectation. She too was meant to live up to the reputation of her maternal grandmother and actress, Shobhna Samarth. "But that expectation wasn't in my head," she argues.
The sisters have stayed away from comparison. "She's her own person, I, my own," Mukerji says. "Kads is different from me in every way. She even looks different. She has curly hair, light eyes, caramel skin. She's a serious person, I am nuts, more social. How do we compare ourselves?"
And yet, they are united in support. Kajol was right beside Mukerji in January, when she launched her production firm in association with her mum. "My mother has worked like a dog to give me what I have," she says emotionally, referring to Tanuja's journey to bring up the kids single-handedly after spending years estranged from husband Shomu Mukherjee, who passed away in 2008. "I have got more than I could have asked for. And I am not about to throw it all away."
Kushal Tandon-Gauahar Khan no longer together

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; October 19, 2014)
Just a few days back,
Tanishaa Mukerji had confirmed that she has split with Armaan Kohli,
and now, yet another relationship, which blossomed inside the Bigg Boss
house last season (the same one as Armaan and Tanishaa), has bitten the
dust. Kushal Tandon and Gauahar Khan have called off their relationship
after a courtship of nine months. A friend of the couple says that their
religious beliefs
were the cause.
Kushal confirms, “Gauahar and I shared a great romantic journey. I
don't think I can ever fall in love again. She is a nice girl and I
tried my best to work things out. Unfortunately, we had to call it
quits as things were not meant to be.“ Problems started seeping in
their romance because of religion. “Gauahar pursued me to change my
beliefs, something that's not possible for me. Love is everything,
but it's not the only thing. We called it off a few days ago on the
phone. I am with my family in Lucknow for Diwali. I wish her the best,“
he says. Gauahar chose not to comment.

Close on the heels of a split between Armaan Kohli and Tanishaa Mukerji
comes news about Kushal Tandon and Gauahar parting ways. Kushal who has
always been vocal about his relationship with Gauahar tweeted on Friday,
“There is nothing called gaushal guys I’m sorry to break the
news…Gauahar and I are no more together…love and peace.” The duo’s fans
had named them Gaushal — a combination of their names. Kushal and
Gauahar grew close to each other during their stint in Bigg Boss last
year. Post the reality show, they also participated in an
action-adventure show Khatron Ke Khiladi 5, apart from making a lot of
public appearances together. They also went for a holiday together in
Goa. And more recently, the estranged couple featured in Pakistani
singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s video for Zaroori tha. Incidentally,
the song was about a break-up.

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; October 9, 2014)
You know me, I don't react. All I have to say is Armaan and I are very different people with different ideologies and I wish him the best. God bless him.
Buzz was that you two were considering marriage.
Marriage is not a game. It's not something you just fall into. We all are adults; we have to take intelligent decisions about our lives. Like I said, Armaan and I are completely different people and our ways of living are very different.
Many felt that the break-up stories didn't ring true and the two of you were actually contemplating marriage.
I never once said anything about marriage. It was all in the media only. You've only raised the expectations of the fans, so you only answer the question.
It was also being speculated that you've shopped for your wedding jewellery.
Please give the jewellery to me if you have it. The media wanted to get me married, so that they will have articles to write for seven days. But I promise you I will have a 10-day wedding when I do get married because I actually enjoy the showsha...
Was there any marriage pressure on you?
No, my mother has never told me to settle down. Not once has she told me to get married and have children. She told me, 'Baby, you don't need to get married. If you want to have babies, have babies.' My mother is Tanuja. She is the most unconventional, bindaas, rocking mother in the world and I respect her because she doesn't necessarily conform to society. It's about what makes you happy. You cannot expect an outside relationship to make you happy. I have always been happy .
You've been very close to Armaan's father, Rajkumar Kohli. You were by his side, when he was unwell.
That's compassion and empathy. My mother has brought me up right. I care about people. I have taken care of my sister, when she was in the hospital giving birth to Nysa because that's the way I am.
So there won't be a change of equation with Armaan's father?
Why? We are individuals in our own right.
Armaan's temperament issues in the Bigg Boss house were evident. You stood by him then.
I felt that everybody was against him in the house and I am somebody who will stand up if there is ganging up going on. He has a temper, but they were provoking him to get reactions out of him. His reactions were not necessarily appropriate but when he was wrong, I did tell him that in my own way and I did not stop being his friend.
So, what changed?
I don't know honestly. We were always different but you need time to really get to know someone.
Will you act with him if the opportunity arises?
Yes, I guess. Professional relationship is different. So why not?
It's been reported that your family was never in favour of the relationship.
My mom and my sister support me 100 percent. They respect and trust my decisions. My mom knows I will eventually do what's right for me. Yes, she didn't want me to go to the Bigg Boss house because she didn't want to stay without me for three months.
So you've moved on?
I am focused on my production house right now as opposed to something that happened 20 days back. I am finally doing something that I have been wanting to do all my life.
Apparently, Kajol has been cast in your home production.
If I approach Kajol with the right script and right director, I am sure she will do it. She has already said so. She has to be convinced, it's very professional.
Tanishaa Mukerji dropped from Akshay Kumar's Marathi film?

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; October 1, 2014)
Tanishaa Mukerji was supposed to make her debut in the Marathi film industry with Akshay Kumar’s film, Aantar. But now sources say that she has been dropped from the film.
It may be pointed out that the actress had even shot for the film in London last year, but soon after, she took part in a celebrity reality show. The film’s makers were looking at shooting with her after the show got over, but apparently, the actress just didn’t give them dates for the shoot.
A source says, “Last year, the film’s entire unit was in London for almost a month, as it was a long schedule. Then Tanishaa couldn’t shoot, as she was busy with her show. But after that, she never got back with her dates to shoot for the film.”
It is being said that the actress initially showed a lot of interest in the film but she eventually decided to distance herself. Another source says that with Tanishaa out of the project, the film’s entire schedule that was shot abroad will now be wasted. “So far, the film’s unit has not been informed about Tanishaa’s exit, though they have been waiting to hear from the producers. Starting a film all over again will be very costly and replacing her will also take time,” says the source.
Both Tanishaa and Ashwini Yardi, co-producer of the film, remained unavailable for comment.
Why would I object to Tanishaa's friend Armaan Kohli?-Tanuja

Mom and daughter on their new venture, Kajol and Ajay Devgn, and Rani Mukerji
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 4, 2014)
The buzz that veteran
actress Tanuja is launching a production house with younger daughter
Tanishaa Mukerji took us by surprise. We met the duo over lunch at their
Santacruz bungalow to talk about their plans and their famous family.
Why have you decided to get into production?
TANUJA: I started one earlier, when Kajol had just entered films, but it ran into losses. I always wanted to be a producer.
TANISHAA: When mom was acting she was too busy for the added responsibility but now that she's free, we are joining forces. The company is called T Mukerji Films as Tanuja Mukerji and Tanishaa Mukerji would be too long.
TANUJA: Both our names start with T, but it can't be TT since that would mean table tennis.
TANISHAA: I have learnt the ropes of production working with Ajay on Son Of Sardaar before going into Bigg Boss House.
Tanuja, didn't you have reservations about Tanishaa doing the reality show?
TANUJA: I'd never seen one so I had my doubts. I had a word with her but she had made up her mind.
Have you accepted Tanishaa's relationship with Armaan Kohli?
TANUJA: Why would I object to my daughter's friend? I will never interfere with her decisions. When Kajol told me that she wanted to marry Ajay, I was with her.
TANISHAA: I have been taught never to disagree with my mother. I trust my instincts and I shall never be dishonest with myself
What kinds of films are you planning?
TANUJA: Fun films with a social message but no gyaan. Thapad maaro magar pyar se. And we will be relying on Ajay and Kajol's expertise.
TANISHAA: We are looking at both Hindi and regional films as we want to reach out to a larger audience. We have zeroed down on two scripts.
Will we see Tanishaa in these home productions?
TANISHAA: I'll be true to the script and not impose myself on every film.
TANUJA: If you are a true filmmaker, you should be able to see stories, without putting your face on it.
We hardly see Tanuja in films today?
TANUJA: I don't want to play a mother who rattles off lines like 'Beta, haath mooh dho lo aur khaana kha lo.'
TANISHAA: My mother can't play clichés.
TANUJA: The films are enjoyable if you leave your brains behind. I am not being judgmental, but people are getting what they want.
What if Ajay does a meaningless film?
TANUJA: My son-in-law is a disciplined and intelligent man and would never associate himself with a mindless film.

Is Tanishaa as hot-tempered as you once were?
TANUJA: I've stopped reacting to situations. 'Reactive' has become 'creative'. Pehle meri chappal nikalti thi, marti thi, aur phir baat karti thi. But I've mellowed down with age.
TANISHAA: And I'm learning to be less reactive.
How different is Kajol from Tanishaa?
TANISHAA: I can never act like Kajol or laugh like her. I have an identity of my own.
There was a lot written about your late sister and you not getting along...
TANUJA: There was an open case in court for 23 years but today I get along well with Nutan's son Mohnish and his wife Ekta. I don't dwell on the past.
You weren't around for Rani Mukerji's marriage...
TANUJA: I wasn't invited. It's okay. Even I haven't kept in touch with the family. But she is a good girl. When we meet at Durga pujas, we meet warmly.

Ajaz Khan, who is known for cracking one-liners, breaking into songs and
having showdowns with his peers, did not get a warm welcome from other
contestants of the show, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi.
A source says, “When Ajaz arrived in South Africa, not many people were happy to see him. Most are aware of the reputation he gained while on the show Bigg Boss 7, and they found his behaviour on the show a bit odd. In fact, apart from Gauahar Khan and Kushal Tandon, other contestants of show did not find him friendly, and they preferred to stay away from him.” The actor tried to entertain everyone with his tongue-in-cheek dialogues and his song-and-dance routine, but it didn’t help him much.
A crewmember from the show says that other contestants were wary of him. “During their free time, they would steer clear of him. Initially, we assumed that others will take time to open up to him, but this didn’t happen at all. They even came up with excuses to avoid hanging out with him,” says the source.
When contacted, Ajaz replied that while he did feel left out at times, he also made some good friends during the shoot in Cape Town. “I met people such as Karanvir Bohra, Teejay Sidhu and Daya bhai (Dayanand Shetty). I also met with Rohit Shetty, who is like an older brother to me. I’d like to believe that I came out on tops.”

Gauahar Khan giving a tough time to the producers of Fever?

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; March 22, 2014)
Gauahar Khan, who has been in the news for her relationship with fellow Bigg Boss inmate Kushal Tandon, apparently gave a hard time to the makers of her film, Fever. Directed by Rajeev Jhaveri and produced by Ajay Chhibber, it has Rajeev Khandelwal playing the lead role.
A crewmember says, “Gauahar was supposed to shoot for this film even before she took part in Bigg Boss. In fact, she did not inform the film’s producers about this show; she just went ahead and did her own thing. The makers, on the other hand, could not do anything about this as her contract doesn’t feature any clause that stops her from taking on other projects.”
Interestingly, Gauahar’s popularity has now soared thanks to her love affair with Tandon. After winning the latest season of Bigg Boss, she went on a break, only to come back and participate in another reality show, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi. “Gauahar was not been keen to allot dates for this film. Post her successful stint on Bigg Boss, she felt that she had signed this film in a hurry. She has told her friends about the same.”
However, the source adds that the actress has now given her dates to the makers. “After a lot of convincing, Gauahar went back and forth on her schedule and finalised dates for the film.” It may be pointed out that Ayesha Takia was initially offered the film, but the role went to Gauahar due to a recommendation from co-star Rajeev Khandelwal. When contacted, Gauhar denied giving any trouble to the filmmakers. She said that she is currently shooting the last schedule of the film in Switzerland. “I am proud to be a part of this film, and I have worked hard for it. I look forward to its release as it is my first film as a lead actress,” she said.
Ajay Chhibber, Fever’s producer, was not available for comment.
Tanishaa Mukerji visits Armaan Kohli's home on Holi?

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; March 19, 2014)
Armaan Kohli took ladylove Tanishaa Mukerji home to introduce her to his folks on the festive occasion of Holi. She met the actor’s parents, Rajkumar and Nishi Kohli, along with his other family members at their Juhu residence.
Says a source, “As it was an auspicious occasion, Armaan felt it was an opportunity to invite her over and have her take part in the festivities as well. He wanted to formally introduce her to his folks and take their relationship to the next level.” Adds the source, “Tanishaa was quite comfortable in his family’s company. Not only did they dab colours on each other, they also had a mooh meetha ceremony. Armaan’s parents have already given him their stamp of approval. They have left it to the couple to make a formal announcement whenever they feel the timing is right.” Sources state that their relationship is on track as Tanishaa and Armaan have been making public appearances everywhere. After spending time at his home, the couple attended a Holi bash where several B-town folk were present.
Tanishaa and Armaan’s love story began last year when they participated in the reality show, Bigg Boss 7.
There has also been buzz that Armaan has gifted Tanishaa a rock.
However, the diamond ring she is often spotted wearing is mother Tanuja’s gift that marked her (Tanishaa’s) successful stint as a producer of the 2012 Ajay Devgn starrer, Son of Sardaar.
Armaan Kohli to play the 3rd brother in Salman Khan-Sooraj Barjatya's next?

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 1, 2014)
The hostility between Salman Khan and Armaan Kohli that simmered through the seventh season of Bigg Boss is over. According to a source, yesterday, Armaan consented, in principle, to play Salman's second brother in Sooraj Barjatya's next which is expected to roll in June. The source added that the film revolves around three brothers and not two as is being speculated, and Neil Nitin Mukesh rounds off the trio. This will mark Armaan’s comeback to the silver screen after 11 years.
Rajkumar Kohli’s son was last seen in J P Dutta’s war drama LoC:Kargil. The news comes as a surprise given that during the duration of the TV reality show, Armaan was most definitely not the star host's favourite contestant following his growing closeness to Tanishaa Mukerji. But the duo's strained relationship took a turn when fellow contestant Sofia Hayat filed a police complaint against Armaan for beating her up with a mop handle. Armaan was promptly arrested by the Lonavla police. Salman at the time had advised him to keep his cool. After the grand finale, Salman invited Armaan and his ladylove Tanishaa on his birthday to his farmhouse in Panvel. “This helped them connect better," said a source, adding that thanks to the reconciliation, Armaan is now in advanced talks to star in Sooraj's family drama. Salman plays a double role in the film but the two characters are not related by blood. While not much is known about Armaan’s role yet, Neil Nitin Mukesh’s part will have shades of grey. After Bigg Boss, the love triangle comprising Ajaz Khan-Gauahar Khan-Kushan Tandon will now be seen in another reality show — Fear Factor. Kushal who was with his lady-love in Cape Town for the show, didn’t know that his rival was also part of it. It is learned that the minute Kushal saw Ajaz, he quit in a huff.
Ajaz confirms, “When Kushal saw me in Cape Town he quit the show. His entire body was aching. He had to leave.” He says that Gauahar too has threatened to quit when she saw him. “They are insecure about me or maybe they just don’t like me. What to do. Haters will hate the world. Lovers will find reason to love everyone.”
Ajaz denies being in Fear Factor to again establish proximity with her after Bigg Boss. “No, I am not here for Gauahar. I don’t even talk to her anymore. Bigg Boss is over. I wish Allah would bless both Kushal and Gauahar.” About his flash decision to rush for Fear Factor Ajaz explains, “I decided to come because the channel is paying me good money.” Then he adds, “I also get a chance to audition for Rohit Shetty’s Singham 3.”
4 months on, dead carpenter's family yet to get a penny from Bigg Boss makers

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; February 7, 2014)
Four months ago, a carpenter working on the reality show Bigg Boss Season 7 Saath Saath passed away due to cardiac arrest. Since then, his family has been waiting for compensation from the production house but to no avail. A source says that 50- year- old Ramesh Maurya, who worked as a carpenter, passed away on September 8 last year at a hotel in Lonavala, where the crew was put up. “While working on the sets of the show, Ramesh felt nauseous after which he headed back to his room and died later on the same day. Since his death, the family has been in touch with the production house Endemol in a bid to get compensation,” says the source.
Opender Chanana, a consultant with Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union, says that working conditions on film and TV sets need to improve drastically. “Workers here have no access to social security.
Maurya, for one, was not covered under group insurance by the production house. The union has written to them several times to give compensation — which amounts to Rs 10,28,917 — but they have not given any compensation yet,” he says.
When contacted, the production house issued a press statement. It said, “While our deepest condolences are with the Maurya family, Ramesh Maurya did not expire on account of any accident on the set but because of natural causes, while resting at his hotel. Endemol is no way liable to pay any compensation in this suit as he was employed by a sub-contractor hired on a principal basis. The contractor has been paid in full by Endemol India.” Reacting to Endemol’s statement, Chanana said, “The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the parent body, Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), and the producers clearly states that the responsibility lies not with the contractors but with the producers.” It is believed that Maurya’s wife has gone back to their ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh, while his children continue to stay in Mumbai with his extended family. His family could not be contacted.
Will the 'reality show girl' tag ruin Gauahar Khan’s chances at a film career?

Subhash K Jha (DNA; February 6, 2014)
It seems like a self-defeating manoeuvre. Gauahar Khan is set to be seen in another TV reality show, soon after Bigg Boss 7. A section of the industry feels the actress is killing her chances of a Bollywood career by overdoing reality shows. She has already been overexposed in a Kardashian type of show in the past, apart from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
One of the country’s most critically and commercially successful directors wonders why Gauahar is being seen in every other reality show. This director wants to cast the actress in his proposed historical-musical. But he’s now having second thoughts. “What if she runs off to do another reality show in the middle of my film?” he says.
Rumours insist Gauahar is in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi merely for the joy of being in the same television space with her real-life love interest Kushal Tandon. However, the actress denies being on the show for her loved one’s sake. “No, I am not doing Khatron Ke Khiladi for any other reason except that I’ve nothing else lined up right now. It’s an entirely different concept from Bigg Boss. It’s a good-looking show. It will do me good. If I had anything else I wouldn’t have done it. This show will be shot only for a month in South Africa.”
The actress, who has given scene-stealing performances as the second lead in Yashraj Films’ Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year and Ishaqzaade, is gearing up for her debut as a leading lady opposite Rajeev Khandelwal in Rajeev Jhaveri’s Fever. She says excitedly, “It’s a thriller shot in Switzerland with performance-oriented roles. It is my first lead role and it starts in the middle of the year. I just want to do quality work.”
Armaan is loyal, real and played the game with his heart-Tanishaa Mukerji

Priya Gupta (BOMBAY TIMES; January 30, 2014)
Tanishaa
is a simple person who likes simple things. She is stubborn and strong
and may talk too much at times, but is loyal to a fault. She has an OCD
for being clean, healthy and organised. Being on a disciplined
vegetarian diet in the Bigg Boss house for 105 days, she has lost weight
and is looking truly stunning at 48 kilos. She has enjoyed doing all
the different things she got to do, be it the production of Son Of
Sardaar, a play, Bigg Boss and now a Marathi film. In her first
interview post coming out of the Bigg Boss house, she talks to Bombay
Times about her strong mother, the loyal Armaan Kohli and why Ajay Devgn
is the perfect husband for her sister. Excerpts:
What made you be on a show like Bigg Boss 7?
The challenge. People asked me, ‘Why I would do it?’ And I would say, ‘Why not?’ I am not defining myself, so don’t define me. Expect the unexpected from me.
Reportedly, your family was not happy when you were going in. Did it affect your relationship with them?
My family supports me 100%. That is what it is. Before I went in, they were very protective and who would want their precious, pampered daughter to go into a place like Bigg Boss, where even normal people may not be able to cope. My mother was like, ‘What are you doing?’ But I know that the greater the risk, the greater the reward. In this case, it was all reward. It didn’t only affect me. I don’t need to spell it out, but there were games being played even outside. More than everything else, I have come out with so much love and am so proud of having an insanely strong family that I have. They proved it outside the house and I proved it inside. No matter what you do, you can’t break us. You can skim the surface, but you can’t touch us.
Talk about your experience inside the house?
I stayed there for 105 days. I was the first person to enter and the last person to exit. I knew there would be no access to the outside world and that there was no TV, phone or help. You do all your work, be it ironing, dish-washing, sweeping, mopping, everything. Luckily, we girls decided that all the boys would do the sweeping and mopping. And while some guys objected to it, the other chauvinistic ones said, ‘How can you ask the girls to do it? They are doing enough work in the kitchen.’ I was washing the dishes and loved it. I was earlier living with a friend in LA where she would do the cooking and I, the washing. I find it very soothing to clean. I have a little OCD. They give you a supply of fresh vegetables once in two days but it is never enough, so you divide the ration that is given. According to me, they are playing a psychological game where they are trying to play with your head and, therefore, limiting your necessities. They are trying to put you under stress and strain and their format is engineered to push you out of your comfort zone. You can only sleep when they tell you to sleep. They decide when you can go to sleep and you are not allowed to sleep till the lights go off. I am a boarding school kid and would wake up before the alarm rang. They will have dogs bark at you, but will not allow you to sleep for more than seven hours. They will purposely start a task at lunchtime when you are hungry, as at that time you will be irritable. I never tried to dominate anybody or manipulate anybody. I never bitched. Nobody affected me in that house. I am a student of Psychology and within two weeks, I knew each one’s real personality, but didn’t know what levels they could go to. They did not affect me as, for me, they were predictable once you understood them, so I managed to keep my cool even though in the outside world, I am not so cool. In an extreme danger, your true personality comes out. There, you are constantly under attack, be it mental, verbal or by the negative energy around you. Whatever you are deep down inside has to come out. I was never playing the game with anyone in the house like the others were. I was only playing with Bigg Boss. For me, winning the game was keeping my cool. The true test of a man’s character is when he is put under a stressful situation not under his control. Bigg Boss was one such. It taught you that you can choose what you will allow to affect you.
Talk about Salman Khan as the host?
Salman is a phenomenal host as he cares about the people in the house and cares about your impression that is going out. He is a caring person. He is not allowed to come inside and talks to us only through television. But over the four months, he is the only person you see from the outside world and you feel you have formed a connection with him, even though he may not feel that way. Not just me, but all the inmates felt a connection with him. Of course, I once told Bigg Boss, ‘We are human beings. You might have driven everyone insane, but we are not in a mental asylum that you call us inmates.’ I came out quite sober and sane. I never wanted to get out and I think I am mentally very strong and that probably frustrated Bigg Boss a lot. If I felt something, I got out of it without drowning myself in that emotion. They want you to get bored as an idle mind is a devil’s workshop. They starve you and put you in weird situations. I missed my books the most and watching movies. I would actually sit and birdwatch with Andy and saw beautiful birds in Lonavla that I would have otherwise not seen. I had no clue what was going on outside, as they kept me specifically away from that. And I think everyone knows why.
Did you miss anybody outside?
No, as I realised that my family is not normal. I never expected my family to come into the house. Even though everyone inside would empathise with me and say, ‘We know that you are missing them’ but I would say, ‘Sorry dude, I am not like you.’ I know my situation and know who my family is and would never ask them to come to the house. Of course, I would miss them. Sometimes I did feel that I wanted their perspective, especially that of my mother and sister as that grounds me. They protect you, hold you close and bring you back to reality and I did miss that. They are my world.
What are you dependent on your mom and sister emotionally for?
I realised in the house how strong I am. You always self doubt. I am more sensitive and my sister is more emotional. After going in the house, I realised how many things I admired about my sister and how similar I was to her. About her not caring a damn about what people think and knowing exactly who she is. I realised that I knew exactly who I am and didn’t give a damn about what people thought. My mum has instilled that in us. She doesn’t care a shit about what people think. She is a gentle soul that allows beauty to grow all around her. None of us are dominating. I missed my mom for all the positive reinforcement she gives me. And my sister for the objectivity she brings to my life. We are a very tight family and my mum has always taught me to believe in myself. We have this amazing bond, where I know no matter what I do, they are always behind me. And they know that about me. I am very stubborn, but there has been a lot of change in me emotionally. Physically, you can see that I have lost a lot of weight and I love it.
What is Ajay Devgn like?
He is amazing. He is the epitome of being a man. He is strong, silent and secure and is the perfect husband for my sister. J (Ajay) loves me as much as he does as he loves my sister as much as he does. J is less protective about me than my sister. He will encourage me to do things that she may feel over-protective about.
Talk about your sister Kajol?
The one word that defines my sister is pure. Everything she does is pure. She has no negative thoughts and has a pure soul. Her every action is pure and she has always been true to herself.
Talk about your mother Tanuja?
My mother is my guru. She is my teacher, who has taught me all through my life. She has taught me to always tell the truth. She always said, ‘If you stand by the truth, nobody can push you down.’ She was missing me like crazy and I am most attached to her. I love my mom due to the way she loves me. Same for my sister. The way they talk to you and love you, you want to be loved by them.

What is the role of Armaan in your life after coming out of the house?
Armaan is my best friend. And I look at friendship as a relationship. People have seen everything that there was to see and can define it the way they want to, but the fact is that he has supported me 100%. The best thing that the house did was that no matter what happened we stood together.

What qualities of his do you like?
You bond with people you identify with and see your own qualities in. That was with Andy too. Andy and I were very similar. Andy would react and I understand why he was reacting. People tried to tell me that he was bitching about me or putting me down, but I would always say, ‘I know where he is coming from.’ And that’s exactly what I will say for Armaan. He comes from the right place. With me as well, I am a very loyal person. Armaan had that loyalty. Andy has a British sense of humour and so do I. We would sing Mary Poppins songs and would perform Phantom Of The Opera. Armaan is loyal, real and played the game with his heart. I am loyal to a fault and very proud of it. I may agree with somebody else, but will stand with the person I am loyal to.
