As Ali Fazal turned a year older on October 15, he marked the occasion with an intimate dinner with Death On The Nile co-stars Gal Gadot and Annette Bening in London. Interestingly, the actor jokes that he received his birthday gift a day earlier — Fazal, who was attending the London Film Festival, met his screen idol Al Pacino at the screening of The Irishman.
"It has been a lifelong journey to finally arrive at this moment when I got to meet the man himself," enthuses Fazal. The actor says that he grew up on a steady diet of Pacino’s classics, including The Godfather series and Scarface (1983). He further reveals that he harboured the dream of meeting the legend since his college days.
"My friends Vijay and Aalaap, and I used to fill up the walls of our hostel room with posters of the movies that we would like to watch. Over the years, I watched each and every film on that list. And that day, I could not believe that I was meeting those very actors whom I had seen while growing up."
During his interaction with the Hollywood superstar, Fazal told Pacino how his mother — an avid fan of the legend — had narrated the story of The Godfather to him as a fairytale.

On Friday night, acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi walked the red carpet at the 61st BFI London Film Festival with his lead pair, debutant actor Ishaan Khattar and Malayalam actress Malavika Mohanan, for the world premiere of his Indian drama, Beyond The Clouds.
The trio, along with two-time Academy Award-winning composer, A R Rahman, and producers Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora, have been busy interacting with the international media since they arrived on Thursday, with Majidi being hailed as “festival royalty”. The film, which marks Majidi’s debut in Indian cinema, is not only premiering at the festival but is also a part of the prestigious Official Competition Category, the results of which will be announced on October 15. The team will spend the weekend at the festival and is expected to return to the Bay next week.
Beyond the Clouds, a Hindi-English-Tamil trilingual, was shot in India earlier this year and dwells on the themes of love, life and human relationships through the eyes of a Mumbai-based sibling pair. It is set to release in Hindi and Tamil, among other languages.

BOMBAY TIMES (October 12, 2017)
Talking about his experience of working with an Indian cast and crew, Majidi says, “This is the first feature film I have made outside Iran, and it's an experience I have been waiting for years to happen. Beyond The Clouds is an extension of my cinematic beliefs, the roots of which lie in human values, love, friendship and family bonding.“
Majidi, who catapulted into the limelight after being nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category for Children of Heaven (1997), adds, “Like Children Of Heaven, this film, too, is the story of a brother and sister. However, this time around, the siblings are grown-ups, who tackle greater conflicts in the bustling city of Mumbai.“
Meanwhile, the festival's director, Clare Stewart, describes the film as a coming together of local and international talent. “Majid Majidi brings a powerful outsider eye to Mumbai in this compelling, visually stunning film driven by an extraordinary debut performance from Ishaan Khattar. Anil Mehta's cinematography and the evocative score by Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman bring additional depth to Majidi's visionary filmmaking. We are very proud to present its World Premiere in Official Competition at the BFI London Film Festival.“
Beyond The Clouds is produced by Zee Studios in association with Namah Pictures.
