Aashiesh Sharrma says makers of TV show Prithvi Vallabh owe him Rs 50 lakh; the show wrapped up in 2018

Three years and counting, Aashiesh Sharrma is still waiting for his dues to be cleared by the makers of the show, Prithvi Vallabh: Itihaas Bhi Rahasya Bhi, which ended in June 2018. The actor says producer Anirudh Pathak owes him around Rs. 50 lakh and he now plans to take the legal route to get his dues.
Aashiesh told BT, “For two years, Anirudh Pathak kept making false promises that he would pay me. He gave to me in writing and mails were exchanged on this. However, eventually, he simply denied owing me any money, which came as a shock. I tried to follow up and reason with him, but he stopped taking my calls and replying to my text messages. After all attempts failed, I filed a complaint against him at the Oshiwara Police Station for cheating and fraud in February this year.”
Aashiesh says the producer owes money to other actors and crew members as well. “He hasn’t paid many cast and crew members of his other shows as well. I was surprised to learn that there are multiple complaints against him for non-payment and cheques bouncing. In fact, he had issued a cheque issued to me, but later requested me not to deposit it. He claims to have borne huge losses. How is that possible when you haven’t paid anybody?”
However, when we contacted producer Anirudh Pathak, he denied owing Aashiesh any money. Anirudh told us, “I don’t owe a single penny to Aashiesh. He has been fully paid. What he is asking for now is over and above the fee agreed upon, which is uncalled for. Prithvi Vallabh was originally planned for 80 episodes, but wrapped up in 45 episodes and I had to bear huge losses. How can he ask for something that I don’t owe him?”

MEANWHILE...ACTORS FROM ANOTHER SHOW CRY FOUL
Apart from members of Prithvi Vallabh, actors, who featured in Anirudh Pathak’s other show, Chandrashekhar(2018), too, cry foul over non-payment of dues. Zubair Rahmani, whose son Ayaan Zubair Rahmani played the young Chandrashekhar on the show, said, “The producer had issued two cheques, but around Rs. 3 lakh is still pending to be cleared. We made several attempts to reach him, but to no avail. I have shared the invoices with the advocate representing CINTAA.”
Sneha Wagh, who is now a part of Bigg Boss Marathi, had played Chandrashekhar Azad’s mother in Chandrashekhar. Before joining the reality show, she had said, “I commenced the shoot for the show in January 2018 and worked for three-and-a-half months and the makers cleared only 50 per cent of my dues. It’s been three years now.”
To these allegations, Anirudh said, “I have to pay the cast of Chandrashekhar and I have all the intention to clear their dues. They are victims of the losses I bore during Prithvi Vallabh. I need some time to arrange the money.”

Others actors from the same show like Shahbaz Khan, Gurdip Punjj, Tassnim Sheikh and Anand Goradia are also fighting for their dues

One of the big issues in the TV industry right now is non-payment of dues. While some actors talk about it, others prefer to stay silent hoping that they will get their monies at some point.
After waiting for two-and-a-half years, actors of Dastaan-E-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali are now speaking out against the production house. The show launched in October 2018 and wrapped up in just three months. However the actors say they must be paid their remuneration, because they worked on the show for almost six months.
Sonarika Bhadoria, who played Anarkali, says, “They owed me Rs. 80 lakhs, but I have only been paid Rs. 7 to Rs. 8 lakhs so far. I have taken the legal route and I hope to get what is due to me.”
Other actors who are awaiting their dues include Shahbaz Khan, Gurdip Punjj, Tassnim Sheikh and Anand Goradia. While Shahbaz, Tassnim and Gurdip have over Rs. 10 lakhs pending, Anand’s pending dues add up to five-six lakhs. All these actors kept calling the producer, Anirudh Pathak, but he did not respond. They have now approached CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes’ Association) to look into the matter. Shahbaz, who played Akbar, says, “We had started shooting much before the show launched. It is our hard-earned money and we should get it. Every time we try reaching the producer,he doesnot respond. We are all going through tough times, some of us sitting at home without work during the pandemic.”
Tassnim says, “I feel cheated. I played my part with all diligence; I wore a 25-kilo lehenga and suffered so much weight on my body only to not receive my money! It’s sad that we have to keep contacting the production house and ask for our money.”
Gurdip echoes a similar sentiment. She says, “I had kept quiet about this issue, but now I feel it is time to speak up. There’s just no response to my messages. They say the show exceeded its budget, but then the producer should have realised that. You can’t not pay your actors because of that!”
Anand Goradia says he has gone through some difficult times personally and the money would have really helped. He says, “My mother passed away a few months ago. When she was hospitalised, I needed money for her treatment. I kept contacting the production house at that time hoping to get my dues, but I got no response.”
When we reached out to producer Anirudh Pathak, he said, “Salim Anarkali was abruptly pulled off air in three months. We incurred huge losses. After that the pandemic struck. I haven’t refused to pay, but because of the losses I incurred, I had to shut my own production house. Now, I am trying to earn as a writer and pay everyone. It will take time.”
