The back-story? Well, both actresses had not talked to each other for the longest time and the issues were from Alia’s side this time. Here beau Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha were in talks for a film and Alia didn’t want Sid to sign a new film opposite his Ek Villain co-star.

When quizzed about it, Alia says, “I skipped the party because I was shooting and not because I didn’t want to be there because of Shraddha. I don’t harbour any animosity towards her. There’s nothing wrong between us. She’s a lovely girl and we are constantly in touch and have a mutual admiration society going, where we are constantly sending each other messages and pics saying the other one is looking so amazing or hot! We have that kind of relationship and vibe. Shraddha is one of those people, I can say, who has a very unique, simple and beautiful charm about her. I find her very inspiring.”

As an actress, doesn’t she feel insecure about films or other actresses? Alia admits candidly, “If you had asked me this question a couple of years ago I would have probably said yes. But I think maybe because I am in a happy place, work-wise and personally. I feel that by being insecure and competitive, you are only spreading negativity and putting out an energy around yourself which is very tangible. You can spot a jealous person from far away. I am not saying you can’t be jealous, it is natural for one to feel that emotion, like ‘I wish I could be a part of that project, or dance as well as her’, etc, but the minute you change that envy into inspiration and if you seek inspiration from things like that, it just makes you feel better. I draw inspiration, not just from my contemporary actresses but also the boys too.”

Alia says that she doesn’t feel insecure as much as she gets intimidated by the attitude of people. “I get intimidated or feel uncomfortable when I get a vibe from that person is not taking me seriously. That kind of throws me.”

After Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt is the latest B-town star to beat the meat. While the actor had told Mirror (March 11) that he started following a plant-based diet in the hopes of a longer and healthier life, Alia says that she switched sides to combat the long summer.

"It's definitely because of the heat that I am staying off meat and I'm beginning to enjoy my new diet," says the 22-year-old whose staples now include fresh fruits, vegetables and curd.

And the new regime seems to be working for the actress, who has battled the bulge for years, but has been cutting a svelte figure these days. Alia refused to make the connection, but simply adds, "I do feel more comfortable."

The actress first tried vegetarianism a while back and was so impressed, that she has sworn off meat for life now. "I never was a hardcore non-vegetarian anyway. As of now I am a vegetarian and I hope it will last," she laughed.

Alia is being supported on her home turf by father Mahesh Bhatt, who too is a vegetarian. So what does Mahesh think of Alia's switch? "My dad is quite happy because he now isn't the only vegetarian in the house".

Bollywood stars, most of whom swore by biriyani at one point, are now increasingly turning to a plant-based diet.

Kangana Ranaut, Vidyut Jamwal, Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan are among the vegetarian brigade and now Alia has joined the brigade. The question is: Will she stay put?
