Splitsvilla 9 contestant and actor Aditya Singh Rajput’s sudden death has shocked his friends and colleagues from the industry. The 32-year-old, who had collapsed in the bathroom of his Andheri residence on Monday, was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. Soon after that, rumours started doing the rounds that he had passed away due to a drug overdose, which has upset his friends.
Actress Subuhii Joshi, who has known him since his Splitsvilla days, said, “How can people just assume that it was a drug overdose? I am among his closest friends, and I can say that he wasn’t into any kind of substance abuse. He was unwell and fainted in the bathroom and hurt his head.”
She added, “We would talk very often, and he sent me a good morning message around 11 am. And then I got a call from a mutual friend at around 2.30 pm informing me about this, and I was shocked and rushed to his place.”

Senior Police Inspector of Oshiwara police station, Mohan Patil, said, “Aditya was unwell for the past 3-4 days and had a cold and cough. The domestic help said that he woke up at around 11 am and had his breakfast as usual, but he threw up. At around 2 pm, he had lunch. Half an hour later, he went to the bathroom, and there was a loud noise. He had fainted there. A few tiles were broken in the bathroom, and he had hurt himself near his head and behind his ears. She called the watchman for help, to pick him up and put him on the bed. They informed the police and took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.”

Mumbai: Actor Aditya Singh Rajput, who died after falling in the bathroom of his Andheri apartment on Monday, had spoken to his mother Usha, over the phone minutes before the incident. Usha said he had not mentioned his ill health. She was also enraged by speculative news reports online that had mentioned a drug overdose to be the reason for her son’s death.
An autopsy was carried out at the Siddharth Hospital’s postmortem centre on Tuesday, and the cause of death has been kept pending for forensic analysis. The autopsy was carried out by four doctors from the Cooper Hospital’s postmortem centre and was videographed.
Usha said she had called Aditya around 2:15pm on Monday. She told him that their previous chats on WhatsApp had got deleted and he should ping her as she isn’t well-versed with the messaging application. Aditya then sent her a message “Mumma” followed by a heart emoji. Around 2:25pm, Aditya also sent her a voice note about certain issues with the messaging app.
“That was the last time I heard from him. The next call came later in the day from one of his friends about the incident,” she said, adding that she was numb with shock and couldn’t find the strength to pack a suitcase and book an air ticket to travel to Mumbai. She had to ask a neighbour for help.
A retired government servant, Usha lives alone in Delhi. Her husband, a Delhi high court advocate, passed away 11 years ago. Aditya’s sister lives in the US and will arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Usha said she had received numerous calls from acquaintances after online news reports mentioned that a drug overdose was the reason for his death. “This is not true at all. The news portals must retract such incorrect stories and stop defaming my son,” she said.

Mumbai: Film and television actor Aditya Singh Rajput, 36, died at his Andheri apartment on Monday after allegedly slipping and falling in the bathroom. Police said Rajput had suffered two wounds — a cut above his ear and a bump on his head — which are likely to be a result of the fall. Investigators are now awaiting the autopsy report which will conclude the exact cause of death. Rajput’s mother, who lives in Delhi, left for Mumbai on Monday after being informed of his death.
Rajput was a contestant on Splitsvilla 9 and had starred in films like 'U Me and Hum’, ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara’, TV shows like CID and several commercials.
He shared a 3-BHK apartment at Green Heights society with two roommates and a live-in house help. One of his roommates had not been home for a couple of days and the other would leave for work in the morning and return at night. Police said Rajput was not feeling well for the past few days. The house help told the police that the actor had cough, cold and was throwing up. He had partied on Sunday.
On Monday, Rajput woke up at 11am and had a paratha for breakfast. He continued to throw up and asked the house help to cook Khichdi for him. Between 2 pm and 2:30 pm, Rajput went into the bathroom. His house help heard a loud crash and rushed to check on him. Rajput had fallen and hurt himself. Some tiles in the bathroom had also broken.
“The house help rushed downstairs and sought help from us,” said a security guard. The guards went upstairs and lifted Rajput, who had passed out, onto the bed. They fetched a doctor from a hospital located outside the society. The doctors advised that Rajput be moved to a public hospital. The police were informed, besides a female friend. Rajput was moved to the Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari where he was pronounced dead.
Soon, the news about his death was all over social media and his friends and co actors started visiting his home. One of them was Bollywood actor Aarya Babbar who said he was numb after hearing the tragic news and left his shoot midway to come over. “Rajput and I were in touch over Instagram. He was very young and I can’t believe he is gone,” said Babbar.
Another friend of Rajput said he was an avid photographer and had set up a studio inside his apartment. He had also started his own label of branded clothes. Rajput had started his career at the age of 17 and was living in Mumbai for over a decade.

He collapsed in the bathroom in the flat at Oshiwara; preliminary report suggests health issues as a possible cause

Aditya Singh Rajput, a 33-year-old television actor, collapsed in his flat in Oshiwara on Monday and later died. The police found that Rajput had been suffering from acidity and vomiting for the past two days. The Oshiwara police have registered an Accidental Death Report.
According to the police, Rajput had been experiencing acidity and vomiting for the last 2-3 days and was receiving treatment from his local doctor. The Oshiwara police sent Rajput's body to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.
A police officer stated, “On Monday around 2:30 pm, the actor was at home with his house help and his pet dog. He started vomiting in the washroom and later collapsed. The help rushed him to Bluebell Hospital, which is located on the ground floor of the society."
A doctor there examined Rajput and found his body to be cold. The doctor immediately conducted an ECG and determined that he had passed away. Doctors informed the Oshiwara police as it was an unnatural death.
The Oshiwara police sent the body for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
A police officer said, “We searched his house but didn't find anything suspicious. The postmortem report is awaited. The cause of death will be known after the report is available."
Zone 9 In-charge DCP Krishnakant Upadhyay said, “In the primary investigation we found that he fell in the washroom and died. We have registered an ADR and are investigating.”
Rajput was widely known for his appearance in Splitsvilla 9. He hailed from Delhi and began his career in films such as ‘Krantiveer’ and ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’.
Actress Lokesh Sharma, a contestant on Bigg Boss 2006 who worked in the film ‘Bekaaboo’, said, “Rajput was a loving and helpful gentleman. Everyone working in the film industry should take care of their health. The industry is in shock after the news.”
A close friend of Rajput said, "He was a good friend. He was involved in several television shows. If the OTT boom had happened earlier, he would have been part of it. In his spare time, he tried various things like photo shoots for others. In fact, I had recently wanted to discuss some work with him. Aditya had always been full of life and knew how to strategize his work. This is heartbreaking.”
Regarding suspicions of a drug overdose, the friend added, “In all the years I have known him, he never indulged in drugs."
