After playing an RJ twice on the big screen, the actress is set to host a show that goes on air in March; will be joined by lawyer-social activist Abha Singh

After playing a radio jockey in films like Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Tumhari Sulu, Vidya Balan is now all set to reprise the role in real life too. The actress has come on board to host her own chat show which will air from March. “She has been in talks with the radio station for a while now and finally signed up for the show and will record the first episode soon,” informed a source close to the development, adding that it’s a three-month contract but if the response is as overwhelming as expected, she may extend it by a few more episodes.

“The idea is to encourage female callers to share incidents of domestic violence, marital abuse and the like. Vidya will offer legal solutions to their problems. She will be accompanied by famous lawyer and social activist Abha Singh,” informs the source, pointing out that it will provide a platform to oppressed women from any social strata to seek legal advice for free. Vidya will also share some of her own experiences and will have guests from the film industry urge women to come out.

The National Award-winning actress who was recently seen in the NTR biopic, isn’t the first Bollywood actor to experiment with radio. Kareena Kapoor Khan is also hosting one on Ishq 104.8, What Women Want, which is also about breaking stereotypes while Karan Johar has become a relationship expert after Calling Karan, which airs on the same channel.

Shah Rukh Khan got into a spot of trouble for his speech at the launch of Gunjan Jain’s book. When he was addressing the author, who was sitting in the audience, she got up. The actors saw her and said, “Please don’t stand up, even if it’s politically incorrect, girls need to lie down when I talk to them.” He then added, smiling, “I am joking. Don’t take me seriously. I know just for this I am going to be in trouble now.” While many in the auditorium laughed, lawyer-activist Abha Singh (wife of lawyer-activist YP Singh) was offended. She tweeted, “Attending a book launch in Taj where SRK said something derogatory about women. Hope media takes it up.” Yes, this is the same Abha who has been in the news for taking off on Salman Khan in connection with his court case.
