On actor-producer Vishnu Vishal and badminton player Jwala Gutta’s (42) fourth wedding anniversary on April 22 this year, the couple was blessed with a baby girl. Interestingly, the baby’s name, Mira, was given by actor Aamir Khan, who had attended her naamkaran ceremony in July.
Vishnu shares that his and Jwala’s bond with Aamir goes back to 2023, when Aamir’s mother, Zeenat Hussain, was undergoing treatment for an unspecified illness in Chennai. “Aamir was in production for a movie then, and they needed me to find a home stay instead of a hotel for 2-3 months so his team would find enough space to work. I remember arranging villas for them to stay, and we became friends from there,” Vishnu recollects.
Calling Aamir “the greatest gift God has given” him, Vishnu explains that their relationship deepened beyond friendship. Jwala, who had almost given up on having children and had been exploring adoption, received unexpected help from Aamir. “He (Aamir) helped us find a good doctor in Mumbai for IVF treatment for Jwala. And when she became pregnant, it made us very emotional because she had almost given up… he brought back joy into our lives. He treated us like nothing less than family,” says Vishnu.
“Jwala was in Mumbai with his family for almost ten months, and his mom and sister took care of her personally. That bond has now evolved into a close friendship. When Jwala became pregnant, I told Aamir he should be the one to name our baby, because he was the one to give us hope,” he adds.
Speaking about the new chapter in his life, Vishnu shares, “Life is pretty good now. I finally have what I’ve always wished for.”

As Aamir Khan bypasses OTT giants to release Sitaare Zameen Par only in theatres, he opens up on how Amitabh Bachchan gave him confidence when no one else supported his decision

At one point in our interview, Aamir Khan candidly says, “I’m not known for my practicality.” We’d disagree. After all, the actor and producer is one of the sharpest business minds in the Indian film industry. That explains why the industry is looking to him as he tries what could well be a gamble with his upcoming release, Sitaare Zameen Par.
Khan has announced that the slice-of-life film, directed by R S Prasanna, won’t be available on OTT after its theatrical release, defying the current business model of the industry.
To some, it’s a risky move. To him, it’s a matter of loyalty. “I’m a loyalist of cinema. I have reached here because of theatres, and I won’t turn my back on them. Secondly, I have faith in my audience. We keep saying that the audience doesn’t come to theatres. It’s common sense that I cannot sell the same thing twice. That’s why I am coming only in theatres,” explains Khan, while also refuting rumours that he is opting for a pay-per-view model on YouTube for the film.
Making the unusual decision was admittedly scary. Scarier even was that no one in the industry endorsed the move. The superstar recalls, “Some of my friends said that I was taking too big a risk. I was in a dilemma because, of course, I also get scared.”
But one person showed faith in him, when nobody else did. “One person put me on the track — Mr [Amitabh] Bachchan. During a dinner at his house, I told him my problem. He said, ‘You always take risks. You are known to be a risk taker. You should do it.’ When a person like Amit ji backed me to do it, I became confident. The next day, I told my team, ‘Amit ji has told us. We are not releasing anywhere, only in theatres.’”
The superstar knows that with Sitaare Zameen Par — which also stars Genelia Deshmukh, and tells a heartfelt story of how 10 neuro-divergent kids inspire an ill-mannered basketball coach to change for the better — he is changing the norms of the industry. But he insists he is doing what feels right to him.
Khan says, “No production house is green-lighting a film until you pre-sell it digitally. So, you’ve shown that you won’t make a film without OTT. I’ve made it clear that I won’t make a film with OTT. I have no problem with streamers, but I don’t think it’s logical that a film streams so soon after its release. Show my film on OTT after six months, I won’t mind it. But OTT platforms told me, ‘If you are not streaming it within eight weeks of release, then we don’t want it.’ I said no to that. I’m losing a lot of money. If a film of mine without presale from OTT doesn’t do well in theatres, I’m finished.”
The question then is: How did streamers become so powerful to dictate the business in Bollywood? “We’ve taken the wrong step. We are responsible,” admits Khan.
Now, as he is hoping to undo the practice, the actor believes he couldn’t have asked for a better film. He remembers being touched by the story — an adaptation of the Spanish film, Campeones (2018) — when Prasanna approached him with it in 2022. The actor’s only hesitation was that the character of Gulshan, a politically incorrect guy, was far from him.
“I told R S Prasanna that the character is politically incorrect, rude, and arrogant. There are a lot of people in the industry who will suit him. Why don’t we go to them? I even suggested the name,” he laughs. But the director was clear that he wanted Khan in the role, and the superstar agreed.
Khan’s excitement regarding the film, however, turned into desolation after Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) tanked at the box office within days of its release. “When Laal Singh didn’t do well, I was heartbroken. We were to start Sitaare… I called Prasanna and said, ‘I am in depression. How will I work in depression? I won’t be able to do it. I don’t want to leave the house right now. My crying hasn’t ended yet.’ I told him to make it with someone else,” recounts the actor. Prasanna respected his wishes, and chose two actors to lead the film that was to be made in two languages, at that time.
Khan reveals, “We finalised Farhan Akhtar for Hindi and Sivakarthikeyan for the Tamil version. Dates were locked.” However, just before going into prep, the superstar started having a change of heart. “In that one week [of fine-tuning the script], as Divy Nidhi Sharma [writer] was reading it, I suddenly felt, ‘Why am I not doing this film? It’s such a good script.’ As the week ended, I told them how I was feeling. I said that of course, nothing could be done as the bullet had left the gun.”
While Prasanna was happy to know that Khan, his first choice, wished to lead the film, he requested the superstar to talk to Akhtar and Sivakarthikeyan. After much pressure from his collaborators, when Khan spoke to the two actors, they were graceful about the turn of events. He remembers, “Farhan was disappointed. He really loved the role, but he understood. Sivakarthikeyan said, ‘Why are you saying sorry, sir? Please do the film. It’s yours.’”

Actor Nikhat Khan, who was last seen in the film Pathaan (2023), says her family follows Raksha Bandhan “with shiddat”. In the run-up to the festival, the actor tells us it’s one of the family’s cherished occasions, and which they look forward to celebrating at younger brother, actor-producer Aamir Khan’s house.
“Raksha Bandhan is something we always celebrate with a lot of joy. This time, too, we will be celebrating, but my sister Farhat (the youngest of the four Khan siblings) is abroad, so we will miss her and I will do the rituals on her behalf. Last year, I was travelling, so she did it for me. Usually, we go to Aamir’s house and we do the little ritual of tika, with diya and mithai. Us din sweets ka bhi koi parhez nahin rehta, khila hi dete hain!” beams Nikhat.
Like every family, the Khan clan, too, has their unique twist to the festival. “Aamir ties us Rakhi too — ki aisa nahin hai ki only he has to protect us; we, too, have to protect him. So, hum unko aur woh humko Rakhi bandhtey hain, which is very sweet,” Nikhat says.
What does she feel is the best part of celebrating Raksha Bandhan? “That we remind each other, ki hum hain! It’s a nice feeling. Special ho jata hai. Shiddat ke saath karte hain and when kids also see all this, they also understand our social fabric,” she tells us.
Khan says the bond between the siblings has deepened over the years. “Thankfully, we get the opportunity to meet each other frequently as we stay in the same building, all of us — me, Aamir and Faisal. Only my sister is not here as she has moved to London. Our ammi (Zeenat Hussain) is also here, and mashallah, she is 90 now. Her not keeping well in the past two years has brought us even closer together,” she wraps up.

After focussing on work for the last 35 years of his life, Aamir Khan says it is time he took a break – maybe for “a year and a half” – to prioritise his family. While speaking at an event in Delhi, the actor said he was supposed to start preparing for a new film following the August 11 release of Laal Singh Chaddha, which had a disappointing run at the box office.
“But I feel like I want to take a break. I want to be with my family, with my mom, with my kids,” explained the actor, whose mother Zeenat Hussain was admitted to a Mumbai hospital after reportedly suffering a heart attack last month.
“When I am doing a film as an actor, I get so lost in that and nothing else happens in my life,” said Aamir, adding that his “single-minded” focus on his career has neither been fair to him nor his loved ones. “I feel like I have been working for 35 years and I feel I have been single-mindedly focussed on my work. . . And I feel it’s not fair to the people who are close to me. It’s not fair to me also in many ways. This is the time for me to experience life in a different way,” the 57-year-old star said.
“I’m looking forward to the next year, year and a half, in which I’m not actually working as an actor for the first time. . . I’ll work as a producer on Champions because I really believe in the film. I’ll approach other actors now to see if they are interested to do the role that I was hoping to do. I’m at that stage in my life where I want to enjoy my relationships,” he said.

Actor Aamir Khan made a rare public appearance recently in Delhi, one of his first since the box-office failure of his latest film, Laal Singh Chaddha. What surprised people more was his new, all-grey hair and beard look. A video from the event has gone viral not just because of this, but also because he’s seen announcing that he’s taking a mini break from acting.
“When I am doing a film as an actor, I get so lost in it that nothing else happens in my life. I was supposed to do a film after Laal Singh Chaddha called Champions. It’s a wonderful script, a beautiful story, and it’s a very heartwarming. But I feel that I want to take a break, be with my family,” he said.
This means that the 57-year-old will not be starring in the film anymore. However, he is still producing it. He declared that the makers have started approaching other actors for the lead role: “I’m at that stage in life where I’d like to enjoy my relationships at this point of time.”
Expressing that he is looking forward to the break now, Khan said, “I feel I have been working for 35 years and I have single-mindedly been focused on my work. It’s not fair to people who are close to me. I have to take some time off to be with them.”

Aamir Khan delivered a masterclass in the basics of learning and also stepped into throwback mode about playing a student in 3 Idiots at the convocation ceremony of Bennett University on Thursday. Excerpts:

‘I WAS VERY CLEAR WHAT FIELD I WANTED TO BE IN VERY EARLY’
I don’t know if many know here that I am not a graduate myself. But I do strongly believe in education. I may not have been to a formal college, but I did strongly believe in educating myself. When I actually stopped my formal education, I remember there was a big ruckus at home when I told my parents that I want to start learning about cinema and films. I remember I was 16 and by then I was pretty clear this is the field I want to be in. This is the world I belong to – of stories, of characters, of being part of storytelling, of touching people’s hearts, make them smile, cry and affecting them in different ways – and that excited me. So it was then that I decided that I want to learn about cinema and films. At that time there was FTII and there were film schools elsewhere in the world, but I couldn’t afford any film school. My parents weren’t that well-off. It was very difficult to get into FTII as it had limited seats, plus you had to be a graduate to be in FTII, which I wasn’t. So what was left for me to learn about cinema and filmmaking was learning at work – and which is why I decided to start working as an Assistant Director in films. This was in 1983. I remember when I even suggested this there was such a big ruckus, my entire family was like are you mad, you have to be a graduate, no matter what! None of them wanted me to be in films, though my father was a producer and my uncle was a director and producer. I had to fight tooth and nail, I was stubborn and finally, I did what I wanted, and they couldn’t stop me.
I went my route and I worked as an Assistant Director for four years. Those were my learning years, and that’s when I realised that whenever I am interested in something and I want to understand it, it is up to me to learn it on my own. Thereafter, all the subjects in school that I was not interested in – History, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Physics, all these I read and learnt on my own and it’s been beautiful because I am interested in them. And I think that is the key, when you are interested in something, when you love something, when you want to learn, there is a thirst and a desire to learn, that’s when you learn the best.
‘I LEARNT THE MOST BY TRAVELLING WITHIN MY COUNTRY’
One thing I want to say to all of you as you are about to start your lives – the most that I have ever learned in life is by going deeper into my own country. That has been my own learning. I have told my own kids this and every young kid who wants to have some advice from me, take one year off from your life. Just travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Take a bunch of friends and be safe. The amount you will learn in that one year will be priceless, you will go to towns, villages, meet people.
One of my biggest learning in life has been when I was doing Satyamev Jayate, because I have lived a very sheltered life. You live in Mumbai, you don’t come to know what’s happening at the grassroots. When I did Satyamev Jayate, I got to know so many things about my life, country, society, challenges we face, and the kind of courage we have as people. I got to learn so much about my own country. I wish I had thought of this idea when I was 18 or 19.
‘MY MOTHER’S LESSON: BE SENSITIVE TO THE FEELINGS OF OTHERS’
I always like to share this story with people and some of you may have heard it earlier. When I was a kid, I used to play a lot of tennis. I was Maharashtra number one for a brief period, in sub-juniors. My mother used to keep some newspaper cuttings. Toh Times of India mein aata tha, you know, ‘Aamir Hussain upsets top seed’. My full name is Aamir Hussain Khan. At that time, we had dropped the Khan, it was too long — Aamir Hussain. And then when I became an actor, we dropped Hussain, then again, Aamir Hussain Khan was too long.
I am very close to my mother, and she is a big influence on me. She would wait for me to come home after tennis and ask me if I won or lost. One day, I came home and she, as usual, asked me the same and I told her I had won. A little later, while we were having tea, she was introspecting, and said: ‘The boy who lost to you, he must also have reached home by now, and his mother would have asked him the same thing, and she would be feeling bad that her son lost’. I was shocked, I had not thought of that! She was able to feel what that boy’s mother would have felt at that time. That had a deep impact on me. That made me realise that my mother is able to care, and think, and be sensitive to what others are feeling. Since then, I felt that one should never hurt someone or make someone upset, no matter what profession you get into, the ability to be sensitive to other people’s feeling is a quality that is rare and special to have. It is an important emotion. So go out there, have a great life, have a great time, but see if you can make others happy and be sensitive towards others.
‘RAJU SAID YOU HAVE LIVED THE CORE THOUGHT OF 3 IDIOTS,YOU HAVE TO DO THIS ROLE, AND I TRUSTED HIS JUDGMENT OVER MINE’
I often make a blasphemous error even today, where I assume in my head that I am still 18 or 21 (laughs!). When I meet people, toh mujhe lagta hai main 18 ka hoon aur ye aunty hai. Toh mai aunty aur uncle bolta hoon — and then I realise that they are sometimes younger than me now!
But coming to how I played an 18-year-old at 44: When Raju first came to me with the script of 3 Idiots, I loved the script. But I asked him, why are you thinking of me? I am 44 and your role is of a young kid, who is 18 to 21, he is going to graduate. Why do you want me in this film? I couldn’t for the life of me understand why he wanted me. He kept saying, ‘No, because these lines are very important, and when you say them, I believe them’. Basically, what he was trying to say was that the core thought of the film is don’t chase success, just chase excellence — and when you chase excellence, success comes chasing after you. Raju said that ‘Yaar, you have lived by this principle. Your choice of films, your career, you have done Taare Zameen Par (TZP), Lagaan, you have done films that were, on the face of them, like when you signed them, not supposed to be successful. So clearly, you were the one person who was not chasing success. You were trying to do whatever you felt like and trying to do the best you can. As a result, success came chasing after you because you are not chasing it.’ Clearly, I wasn’t — somebody up there loves me! And then Raju said that ‘When you say that line — yaar kamyabi ke peeche mat daudo, kabil bano, kamyabi khud tumhare peeche aayegi, yeh line jab aap bologe toh audience ko believe karna hai. Audience aapse believe karegi kyunki aapki life aise aap jee chuke ho.’ I said woh sab toh theek hai Raju, par jab main 18 saal ka dikhunga nahi toh phir hum kya karenge, matlab main aise classroom mein book pakad ke ghus raha hoon 40 saal ka ajeeb lagega, people will laugh at us.
I really respect Raju as a director and so I kept telling myself that yeh kuch dekh raha hai jo main nahi dekh pa raha hoon. It was one of those rare occasions when I decided to trust somebody else and say okay, I am trusting his judgment over mine. I had seen two of his films by then, and they were both really amazing, and I thought there is something in this guy, he is seeing something which I am not seeing. So I am going to trust his instinct. And that’s why I did the film.
ON THE ROLE OF THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY IN SOCIETY
I believe that it is the creative community which brings grace to society. If we so choose to, we do have the opportunity to try and build the social fabric of society, we can inspire people, we can bring hope to people. We can create heroes and icons that people like to emulate. So we can make people sensitive towards things. When I say creative community, I don’t mean actors alone, I mean writers, poets, lyric writers, painters, actors, dancers — these are all creative people. I believe that it is very important for creative people to understand, and whenever possible, use that ability to bring grace to society, to try and build the social fabric, whenever they can. I am not judgmental towards people who just make entertaining films because that is your primary responsibility. If you are just entertaining, that is good enough, if you are giving people a good time that is good enough — but along with that if you can tell something which makes them think, which makes them ponder, which sensitises them, that’s great.
‘WHEN MY FILMS TANKED, I SWORE TO MYSELF THAT NO MATTER WHAT, I WILL NOT SIGN A FILM THAT I’M NOT HAPPY ABOUT’
My first film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was a big success, I became an overnight star. Then I signed a bunch of eight or nine films, but these films started bombing and I was being called one-film wonder. I used to be very unhappy with the work I was doing. I used to come home and cry. At that time, I swore to myself that no matter what happens I am not ever going to sign another film that I am not happy about, even if it means my career is going to end.
Aamir Khan tense after staff tests positive for Coronavirus

The novel Coronavirus continues to be a threat to everyone, irrespective of whether an individual is rich or poor, common man or a celebrity. Aamir Khan on Tuesday took to Twitter to share that some of his staff members have tested positive for Covid-19.
“They were immediately quarantined and the BMC officials were very prompt and efficient in taking them to a medical facility,” the actor wrote, adding that he’d like to thank the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for taking good care of his staff and fumigating and sterilising the entire residential society.
Aamir added, “The rest of us have tested negative. Right now, I’m taking my mother to get her tested. She is the last person in the loop. Please pray that she is negative.”
The actor-filmmaker concluded his note thanking the BMC for their “prompt professional and caring manner in which they helped us”, and also a suburban hospital’s doctors, nurses and staff who were “very caring and professional with the testing process”.

Over the past five months, Aamir Khan has been following a vegan diet in his bid to lose 20 kilos for Laal Singh Chaddha, the remake of Forrest Gump (1994). However, turns out, Mr Perfectionist too isn't above temptation — the superstar, we hear, often drops in at mother Zeenat's house at midnight to get his fill of his favourite kebabs.
Says a source close to the actor, "Aamir has adopted a special protein-heavy diet that consists of steamed or baked vegetables, greens, tofu, lentils, and multi-grain roti. The diet has been so rigorous that the superstar started craving some of his favourite foods. So, over the past few weeks, he has been making midnight trips to his mother's house, which is a stone's throw away from his Bandra residence, to gorge on kebabs prepared by her. Keeping Aamir's diet in mind, his mother has now started making diet-friendly vegan kebabs. She stocks her fridge with them so that the actor can help himself whenever he pleases."

Yes, you read that right. Before you jump to any conclusions, let us tell you that Aamir Khan often seeks inspiration from his mother, Zeenat Hussain, and uses her cosmetics to give an authentic touch to his roles. Recently, he borrowed his mom’s soorma (a form of eyeliner) to sport kohl-rimmed eyes and add the much-needed edge to his character, Firangi, in his forthcoming film Thugs Of Hindostan (TOH).
The Bollywood superstar is known to work extra hard on making his screen portrayals memorable. For Dangal (2016), Bollywood’s highest-grosser till date, he put on oodles of weight and was unrecognisable. For TOH, he was debating for weeks on how to give a desi Jack Sparrow kind of look to Firangi. That’s when he came up with the idea of using the soorma.
A source says, “Aamir often consults his mother on how to dress his on-screen characters. He pays close attention to what she says. In fact, she was the one who suggested that he try her soorma. The idea appealed to Aamir.”

Aamir Khan is a superstar to whom accolades have always come easy. His 30-year-old career has had several acting milestones. But the Aamir of the last decade (from 2009-2018) is not content just to rest on his laurels. Modesty stops him from screaming from the rooftop about money matters. However, if you follow Hindi mainstream cinema, you will notice that he is indeed a box-office lion. His last few films — 3 Idiots, PK, Dangal and Secret Superstar — have set enviable records in India, China, the Silicon Valley, Australia and more global destinations. On his 53rd birthday, the actor-filmmaker is not in a mood to discuss the obvious. Instead, he’s game to answering innocuous questions.
Who do you think will be the first to wish you on your birthday?
I’m shooting during the night in Jodhpur for Thugs Of Hindostan. So, I’m guessing it will be someone from the unit. However, I hope Amitabh Bachchan is the first to wish me.
Any specific birthday plan?
My birthday plan is always to try and spend time with my mother. This year, as I’m away from home, I’ve requested my director, Victor (Vijay Krishna Acharya), to relieve me for a day. If that happens, I’ll travel to Mumbai to be with my mother. But if it’s not possible then she will come to Jodhpur. She’s the person because of whom I’m in this world, so I want to spend this day with her.
You have the most enviable box-office record in India, China and the Silicon Valley. So are you the most invincible Khan?
I’m not in a war. So, I don’t have to be invincible. I’m a storyteller. I have to tell stories, entertain people and give them a good time. I’m trying to be inclusive in my work, so I entertain everyone including those from my fraternity. An actor-filmmaker is someone who has to be able to take the audience on a joyride. And that’s what I’m trying to do.
When you become a part of a film or any project, it suddenly becomes more exciting. The trade calls it the Aamir effect. Are you scared of this or are you challenged by it?
Thankfully, I’m totally unaware of any effect that I have on people around me. Since I am oblivious to it, I have no idea that it even exists. I do believe that all creative people bring a certain energy to the work that they do. It excites me to work with other talented people and feed off their energy when all of us come together to make a film.
Thugs of Hindostan looks interesting. Can you tell us about your experience of working with the Indian cinema icon, Amitabh Bachchan in it?
Working with Mr Bachchan was my dream and I’m really happy that I’m living it right now. I’m like a child in a toy shop and he is a complete joy to work with. His ability as an actor, his concentration, the effort that he puts in, his focus towards his work and above all, the kind of person he is, all this makes it a very enriching and memorable experience for me. So, it’s a dream come true.

Aamir Khan plans a preview of Secret Superstar for his mom

Aamir Khan’s next, Secret Superstar, is about the warm bond between a mother and a daughter. And Aamir is keen to have everyone attending the film’s screening with their mothers. He has requested all his celebrity friends to bring their moms along for the screening.
Director Advait Chandan shares, “The mother-daughter relationship is the heart of Secret Superstar. I was thinking about my mom a lot when I was writing it. And now that it’s ready, I can’t wait to watch it with her. Even Aamir sir is keeping a screening for Ammiji (Aamir’s mother). So, we thought why not tell all our guests to come along with their mothers. In fact, that’s how I suggest everyone watches the film.”
The movie received a standing ovation at its first copy screening. Amit Trivedi, who has composed the music for the film, had also attended the screening. Despite knowing the film inside out and watching it innumerable times to score every scene, Amit was emotionally moved while watching the test screening. Aamir says, “I am very keen that audience should watch this film with their moms. It’s an extremely special story.”

caught up in their work. But both Aamir and Salman are devoted to their
mothers. This week, Aamir flew down from Nagpur, so he could spend Mother’s Day with his mother Zeenat Hussain in Mumbai. The superstar was in drought-hit Vidarbha’s Amravati district this week, to take part in a contest on water conservation conducted by the state government. He also took out time for dna After Hrs to pick out this pic as it’s his mother’s favourite.
Says a source, “Aamir isn’t just the brand ambassador of CM Devendra Fadnavis’s project Jal Yukta Shivar, but has also started the Paani Foundation, which will train villagers from 120 villages in water harvesting and applaud them for their efforts. He has been currently training for more than five hours each day to lose weight for Dangal and also giving ample amount of time to the cause he has taken up of solving the water issues.”
Adds the source, “Despite his busy schedule, he has taken time off today to spend the day with his mom. Aamir has asked his team to not fix up any meetings for him on Sunday so he can spend all day at his mom’s place in Bandra. He has always been a doting son to his mom. No work for Aamir today — it’s just Aamir, the son who will be with his mother.”
Aamir Khan facing unforeseen hurdles in acquiring his mother’s ancestral home in Varanasi?

Last month on his birthday, Aamir had expressed a desire to buy his mom, Zeenat Hussain, her childhood home in Varanasi. It is an emotional decision for the actor, as he knows that his mother has a long-standing desire to stay in that home. But it looks like acquiring Khwaja Manzil is not as easy as he thought it would be. It is said that the actor is facing many hurdles.
Says a source, “The said property is in a legal dispute. Also, two of the three current owners of the house are unwilling to sell the house and are in no mood to cooperate with the star’s family and his lawyers. In spite of several meetings the matter hasn’t progressed.”
Adds the source, “Aamir is said to be still keen on owning the house and has said to have even approached the local residents to intervene in the deal and help him buy the house.”
Reportedly, in 2009 the actor had gone to Varanasi for the promotions of his film 3 Idiots (2009) and then for the wedding of an autodriver’s son he had befriended while he was there. Aamir considers the holy city to be beautiful and historic.
Aamir’s spokesperson remained unavailable for comment.

After weeks spent in the ring in Jalandhar, Punjab, filming his upcoming biopic, having learnt the moves from Olympian wrestler Sushil Kumar, Aamir Khan has quietly taken off to the US. No, they are not shooting the film there. Away from the madding crowds and prying eyes, the perfectionist actor-producer has been gymming diligently in an effort to knock off some no-longer-needed kilos.
Says a source close to the actor, "He has to lose 35-40 kgs before he can play the younger version of the wrestler, it's an uphill task but Aamir is up to it."
What's more being a concerned dad, he is using this opportunity to spend some quality time with his son. Junaid is presently in the City of Angles, studying filmmaking at the Los Angeles Film School and Aamir has been keeping his 21-year-old son company.
"He was supposed to be there till the end of the month but will have to cut short his trip and return in six days. His mother (Zeenat Hussain) is in her 80s now and wants Aamir who turns 51 on March 14 by her side on his birthday. And the doting son has promised her that he will be back before the celebratory Monday," adds the source.
